We make the climb up beautiful Rocky Face Ridge in Dalton, Georgia, to detail the 160th Anniversary of the Atlanta Campaign. Thank you to the Rocky Face Ridge Park and Save the Dalton Battlefields LLC for their hospitality! #civilwargeorgia
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Back in the 80s and early 90s? Me and Dad always wanted to explore this battlefield, but it was so overgrown. We could never get very far in. I'm so happy it has better paths now! This is on my bucket list now. We'd always visit Chickamauga and Chattanooga, but never had luck here. My Dad is long gone, but I'm certain he's already explored it before me lol Great video! Can't wait for part two! Gorgeous shots!

I've read the history of the Atlanta Campaign so many times...but this is my first look at Rocky Face Ridge. My great-great-grandfather fought here (with the 98th OH). AWESOME VIEW!!!

O! Great video! Thirty or so years ago I followed the route from the Chattanooga area down to Atlanta, not so well interpreted or accessible in those days so it's wonderful to see the real ground at last. I'm always glad to send you guys one a road trip.

The plant is a yucca, used as an ornamental for its flowers. No palmettos this far north, yet. Great information is this video!

I can imagine there ARE a lot of untouched earthworks around there. Don’t think much farming could take place. Moonshine maybe but not farming. Great work guys.

Dug Gap still has earthworks. It’s about a mile hike uphill to get there.

Glad to see this up! ABT seems to always come through even if some of the the actual NPS sites don't do anything for commemoratives

The wife's great, great grandfather served with the 24th Ohio Inf. 1861-1864. Rock Face ridge was the Regiments last battle.

This is a great video! With the fights on Rocky Face Ridge being "diversionary" to McPherson's advance through Snake Creek Gap, they don't get much attention in the history books It must have been demoralizing for the rank and file Confederates to hold the Yankees at bay for nearly a week only to have to pull out, especially from positions they'd been preparing all winter. Pretty wild that Johnston had had all winter to prepare and didn't have anyone covering Snake Creek Gap.

Thank you so much, am looking forward to this series. Had two great great grandfathers who fought around this area, one of whom died in the Battle of Atlanta, plus family ties to Dalton. Great job, as always!

Fascinating stuff. And that scenery is awe inspiring😮. It’s crazy to think how radically different the world was just 160 short years ago. But hopefully parks like these will always be around, to commemorate our history🙏 (That’s a good 9 hour haul for me, but I might have to make it down there someday. Manassas is only 30 minutes from me, but I need to check out something new😂)

Love the feel, the girl I left behind me, the classic marching tune, I could imagine being among the Union columns, Forward! file by the right! left turn! Intriguing how Gen Sherman's troops battled at Dug Creek Gap Rocky Faces Ridge at the same time the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of Tennessee River, continued to engage the Rebels/ Rebeldes Confederates, meanwhile in the East Grant clashed w Lee at the Wilderness and the overland campaign, Dalton Witfield Cnty has more earthworks breastworks than Virginia, tiene mas cantidad de parapetos historicas del guerra civil, Federal y rebelde, WOW

That was an amazing video! You put it “all” together: great description (no side comments on generalship), bringing humanity to the war, wonderful visuals and explaining, in great detail, what we were seeing. I can hardly wait for more videos. You got your mojo back. Thanks for all the hard work required to produce such a powerful, quality product.
