live recorded ambient guitar song, no overdubs.
this song is a part of my live guitar songs collection called 'soil'.
have a look at the other 'soil' videos here: bit.ly/16GdzEV
some "technical" infos about the song:
This is the first recording with the Strymon BigSky. it easily replaces the BlueSky and the Neunaber Stereo Wet... although i was happy with these two guys i´m blown away by the possibilities and the capability of the BigSky (which forces me again to limit myself to only the 3 or 4 sounds i really use...)
Towards the end of the song i switch from the guitar signal to the 'Korg Monotron Delay' via the 'Little Lehle' switcher. i drive the signal through my guitar board. i love this little toy box!! it´s amazing how organic it sounds! ever since i can think i was in search of exactly that kind of sound. years ago i bought a '79 built Korg MS-20 modular synth. with the filters and some cables it was possible to get this kind of weird self-oscillating sounds. but the ms-20 is nothing that fits on a guitar pedal-board. well spent 40 bucks...
The 'Bassdrum' sound is produced by the guitar (hit on dampened strings) recorded into the boomerang as master-track.
i know there is a guitar by yamaha which is named 'pacifica'. the song has nothing to do with this guitar. i rely on my good ol' telecaster...

This reminds me so much of NIN - A Warm Place...and the days of my life that I spent listening to it on repeat for hours. This composition hit that same sweet spot all over again and I know that today will be a good day. Thank you 🙏 ❤

This defines me as well: "An independent artist who makes postrock / ambient / indie-rock music & soundspheres and creates films for my music." And with that quote, you've earned a new ambient guitarist friend and subscriber. 😎🎸😎 I use Strymon's blueSky as my main reverb pedal now but seriously considering purchasing Big Sky.

wonderful song and video Chris... also a rare sight seeing someone playing ambient guitar tracks wearing boots.... quite an achievement in my experience ...
@ChrisCorrado

hey Nick, haha... that´s why i wear boots. to show that ambient guitar videos and boots are not necessarily mutually exclusive. :)

a point very well made Chris however this will sadly scupper my planned ambient guitarists slipper making business.... back to the drawing board :)

Some ambient guitar music is too unstructured for many people's taste, but you have a nice blend of ambient plus structure. Very pleasant listening.
@ChrisCorrado
@ChrisCorrado 8 лет назад
thanx for your comment. yes, structure plays a big roll in most of my ambient compositions. as you said, ambient music often sounds a bit random. i try to avoid that.

Hey Caleb, i have a "little lehle" switch with which i can switch the input signal. both the guitar and the monotron are plugged into the little lehle (and from there on into my fx-chain). at about 9:34 you can see me switch between the guitar- and the monotron-signal. that easy.

I have been doing ambient sketches using a digitech jam man solo. What looper are you using, and what looper do you prefer the most for this type of stuff?
@ChrisCorrado
@ChrisCorrado 10 лет назад
Hey Brandon, i´m using the "Boomerang III Phrase Sampler". An excellent looper!!! i love it. i also tried the boss rc-300 and several Jammans throughout the last years. But the Boomerang is a league on its own. check here: boomerangmusic.com. hope that helps...

i love your music,would u like to tell me how u connect the monotron delay to your amp?because monotron use the aux cable,thanks chris
@ChrisCorrado
@ChrisCorrado 7 лет назад
hey yosov, i have connected the monotron to the Lehle Switch (the white box in front) with a such a cable: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CMP305 . The Lehle controls which signal gets through my board. before i play with the monotron you can see that i switch the lehle to change the input signal from guitar to monotron. hope that helps.

Just amp breakup no pedals?
@Mesa3077Boogie
@Mesa3077Boogie 7 лет назад
all this through the front of the box or do you do a wet dry?
@ChrisCorrado
@ChrisCorrado 7 лет назад
hey, this is the chain: guitar -> pedalboard -> amps. so what you hear is the signal that comes out of the amps. so no wet/dry.
@Mesa3077Boogie
@Mesa3077Boogie 7 лет назад
Chris Corrado i meant "vox" not box by the way.. So no effects loop either right?
@ChrisCorrado
@ChrisCorrado 7 лет назад
haha, ok. but either way... i don´t use fx-loops. i usually send everything through the main input of the amps. i love how delays and reverbs get slightly driven by the amp...

Andymanaman I don't have a problem with it and I understand the appeal and I myself find it entertaining but what I said earlier is the truth
@SwayisGod
@SwayisGod 8 лет назад
Evan B It's not really the truth though is it. It's an opinion. Is it because they don't play fast? 20 notes per second sort of thing? This guy and many other need to have a great melodic ear and sense of space within the track. Talent comes in many form.
@idie123
@idie123 8 лет назад
that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. david gilmore has alot of equipment, he must have no talent to your standards. are you just jealous? i was using the g system with my mesa, and realized how tone suck was going on and have recently started buying pedals instead. my tone has never been better. i fund this with playing shows 3 nights a week and running my own business. music is my passion, and there is no dollar value to that. so dont be one of the idiots that think because people have nice equipment they have no talent and are rich. they may just have a higher priority in music than you.
