The David Ley auction was held on 5 and 6 April 1997.
This two day sale of memorabilia included Jeannie's jewellery, Derek's pipes and watch, pottery, his typewriters, boxes of all his books signed and unsigned, as well as leather bound first edition copies of the books signed by him, Jeannies pencil drawings, sketches, note books by them both, Derek's Garden Log Book, the garden table and chairs from The Bridge, Jeannie's father's sword, his regency writing desk, the green volvo, Jeannie's oil paintings and her easels, and so much more.
The auction house was open the day before for viewing and it was very crowded. On auction days it was cheek by jowl packed!
It was both a sad event but also one in which many were able to take away something as a reminder of what The Minack Chronicles meant for them and to allow them to hold Derek and Jeannie by the possession of what they bought.
The Garden Log book was successfully purchased by the then Trustess and it is hed along with various other papers at The Morrab Library in Penzance. You are able to view these papers by making an appointment and paying a small donation towards the library's upkeep as an independent library.
