Ive been to Lithuania once back in the late 1990's..We flew in on a C-5 , went downtown and the people were warm and friendly, seemingly hopeful. While stayimg there I heard there were Americans getting marriages, having dalliances and affairs, as in charge d' affairs, right..?
Every day when I get up, I make some coffee and watch the Audiophiliac with my first cup. You are my morning hit of good cheer, passion, and Brooklyn savvy. Thank you, Steve, and enjoy the holiday season!
Great Speaker Reviews as we have come to experience from your unique presentations. Love the shirt too! Happy Holiday Steve & your family and to all your viewers everywhere, here & Lithuania & beyond! 😂👍🏻
Love your picks Steve! Makes me happy because I was between the R3 and CW4 after researching all year. Ended up going with the big boys. Could not be happier.
Hey Steve love your program and your unique take on speakers, really a pleasure. Steve that shirt is shouting Jamaica for vacations!!!!. Makes it easier for all of us to purchase the best.
Been checking you out my brother for a few months and think you are doing the work. I reccomend newbies check you out before they buy their first serious system and have always got a big "Thank You" Looking forward to 2021! Health and happiness to you and yours!
So glad I found your channel ... Kenny Gold is an old old friend of mine (sound by singer) ... but your input and advice has been fantastic honestly. You turned me onto some great low price but high high quality sound. For me older working person with 2 kids in college? I cannot spend a fortune on my passion but I can enjoy what I can afford now... and the MAGNEPAN lrs were a great tip...started the ball rolling Thanks again
Steve, there in Baltic countries you are The default speaker reviewer. Based on you judgement, people make purchase decisions. No surprise. Your reviews are exact representation of a speaker performance. That tells something.
Well dont know how huge you are here in Louisiana....😁 but I do know that I love your videos! Your passion for audio shines through on all your reviews. I look forward to every one. Have a great holiday!
I used to work for Kef and Celestion in Ipswich UK, I was Quality Control and I did test every tweeter for frequency response, I listened to every one with a sine-wave sweep and matched them into pairs. The owners shut the factory and moved most production to China, not sure how the QC is done these days but I can attest to the care I took back in the day. Just buy a pair of Mackie CR8..never ever buy speakers with a metal tweater....silk all the way
From the Reference and up the quality control is the still the same. Cheaper lines (R series and down) have to make compromises on QC, matching, tolerances, materials.
@@eug3nius says who? I have an ls50 new 2019 and and i had an ls50 from 2014 and sound exacly the same, the only thing was i dont like the color from the old ones, dost match with my furniture
I agree on the dynamics. I modified some corner horns although visually I would have to show you because they still looked stock. After a few years I put them for sale on ebay and got calls from Russia, Lithuania Netherlands, 4-5 US States etc. 8 months go by and a guy in the neighborhood saw the ad and they ended up a mile from my shop. The first high end speaker I ever heard was a Kef back in the 80's about that size and I stayed perennially impressed. Russell Shaw is giving Pure Audio Power some serious competition at a great price point (would fit between your 2k and the 6k I believe), great to have so many talented people/products to choose.
Great review my friend on 3 of the best in the game right now.The shirt stole the show for me had one similar at a Miles Davis concert on the pier in New York city back in the day great show.
Man I love a big speaker. I remember back in the early seventies in a store called Pacific Stereo, a cool salesman let this kid (about 13 at the time) slip into the glass sliding door enclosed room and crank some Zeppelin on some very large Klipsch speakers. ....hooked ever since. Never have owned big Klipsch's though....those Cornwalls look mighty tempting...might have to trade in my Tektons..
In 1971, as a college student in Chicago, the guy in the apartment upstairs owned a pair of Klipschhorns. I haven’t heard a finer sound since. 🔥 My brother’s Fortes come the closest, but he lives in California, and I’m in Georgia, so I don’t get to hear them often. 😉
Steve "if" you got on top of the pinnacle of the Empire state Building and looked N, S, E, AND WEST YOU STILL COULDN'T COMPREHEND HOW FAR YOU TRAVEL GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS! LOVE YOUR SPEAKER CHOICES AS WELL LOOKING FORWARD TO 2020
I love big Klipsch speakers. I have a pair of La Scalas from 1978. You can pick them up cheap and replace the drivers and crossover and have great sounding speakers for a quarter of the price of a new pair. Thanks for the shows. Love it!
I'm sitting here listening to Christmas music on my new Klipsch R51M's while watching this video. I have very minimal space for speakers, and those Klipsch are about as big as I can do in my situation, but they are doing a great job. Why did I buy them? Because I heard that you were impressed by them! I'm not disappointed. A Klipsch 10" subwoofer is on it's way from Santa.... Anyway, my dream speakers are a pair (or maybe five!) Klipsch Heresy III's, if I ever have the space and money for such things. I'm surprised that the Ohm's didn't make the nice list at the end of the year, after all the love you showed them. Oh well. I really like their concept! And I would love to find a way to audition them someday, even if I might have to buy a pair myself....
I got an old pair of Cornwall 2"s and installed the Crites speakers crossover and tweeter upgrades and man they are so much better than stock, very tough to beat!
A long time ago, while the earth's crust was still cooling, Altec Lansing built loudspeakers for movie theaters. Big, horn loaded speakers that brought those film scores to life with fantastic sound. Steve and his wife, in their former careers, may have had the pleasure of hearing systems such as those before they were replaced by "newer, better" systems. So, large horns are a sound many of us older folks heard and enjoyed on a regular basis, never realizing the big boxes behind the scrim were responsible for the goosebumps.
You are in good company. Lithuania also holds the Grateful Dead in high esteem. You will likely remember the story about the Grateful Dead providing the uniforms for the Lithuanian men's basketball team during the Olympics once. Like others, I purchased the 600's, Forte III's on your recommendation-though I auditioned the Forte III's before purchase. Cornwall IV's are next, since I have deeply regretted selling by Cornwall II's to please a "now former" spouse.
Goodbye ex-professor of chaos and hello joy on mathafackin' Earth! I like these happy ending stories of exceptional multi-beneficial trade ups. Congratulations, pardner! P.S. when you see your ex teller I said 🖕bye bxtch🖕 With love and peace, ♊Gemini the terrible♊
How do you like the forte IIIs? I have the IIs and a marantz 2285b and i love them. If I wasnt a single full time dad with zero childsupport I would get the cornwalls. In fact im thinking about getting a 3rd job just for them. Yolo lol
@@kohnfutner9637 lol. I just had my gf leave me. Lol. Before we moved in together I continually reminded her that audio and music came years before her and will remain a huge part of my daily life and wont budge. Wont stop using my gear like exs have made me do in the past. I was serious. Shes gone now. Good fukkin riddance. And guess what, life is better! Nobody should tell anybody how to be happy and nobody should interfere with it. Im 44 and since getying back into the passion, Ive read zillions of stories about spouses hating this or not allowing that. What kind of shit is that? Would these husbands be able to tell her not to persue her happiness? Doubtful. The next date I go on...when it gets to talking about the past, this will be the 1st thing i say. " i was in a relationship with a lady whome I let know daily about my musical passions. I talked about it constantly, I told her if ever somebody made me feel like my stuff was ahoildnt be in a designated qualifying listening space again, then it would likley be the deal breaker. And she tested that theory and lost. I wouldnt cave and even let her know its a form of legit therapy for me and that its not a hobby or past time. So she lives in a camper with her ex methy bf now. Her choice. I live in the bottom half of a house with excellent acoustics and the whole livingroom is my bedroom/listening room. Its amazing. A far better situation. Im not the dick i sound like. I actually acquiesced to 98% of her commands...(and boy were they) she made all the decisions. But 1...and that aparently was 1 too many for her and so she gets to boss a tweaker around in thier cute little trailer in Georgia😂. Not telling married guys to suddenly be asses amd try to change 20 years around and take over the house with thier crap...but im saying if you develop or find a passion and your spouse doesnt like it and refuses it completley...shes not interested in your wellbeing....shes interested in hers. Buy her a trailer. Lol
Gryff Longprong Well this isn’t a video...it’s a comment section of a video hosting platform. That being said, if it weren’t for comments that were off topic of the actual video no one would bother with comment sections because they would be dry and completely fucking boring.
Steve, I have enjoyed your video's. I am a big fan of the Klipsch and am wondering, since you mentioned the Cornwall 1's, 2's etc. if there was any interest in reviewing updated older model classic speakers. I know JBL has some great older models, of course the Klipsch has many to choose from. I would be very interested in your opinion on the sound of a Cornwall 1 that has been updated with new crossovers and drivers compared to the $6K IV's you loved so much. Anyway, thanks for what you do.
Here is something for you to try. When I was young I was looking for speakers and I had war of the worlds on cassette and I brought it with me to the store. The dark voice there, the storyteller, that voice completely and easily told the difference of quality of the speakers of that store and I ended up buying Monitor Audio ma5
Last year I bought a pair of the Klipsch RP 600M based on your review, Not disappointed. Don't know I can swing the $6K for the Cornwalls,, but I can dream.
Steve you need to try the Magnepan .7's and the Cornwall's with a tube amp. I am telling you when I hook my PrimaLuma up to my .7's they sound so much better to me than when I run them with my Sony P-220 which is a monster 1980's amp. By the way you are also known by many audiophile's in Latvia, one of the main suppliers of Baltic Birch to the world. My parents came from Latvia and I have friends there. Keep up the great work! Love your video's!
Perfect picks :) I think for people who love analytical speakers - KEF R3 or LS50 meta are best picks. For musical speakers Cornwall is exceptional as well, short throw to La Scalas
Thank you Steve, I'm going to try to get the affordable LRS. Before buying my Monitor Audio Silver towers I wanted to buy Magnepan and I regret not buying Maggies.
I wouldn't even know where to get it. I bet it's a gem, though. If Andrew Jones could make speakers sound as good as the elac ub5 for regularly under$400 I can only imagine what he could do with what about $2000 pair? Must be so real that it's unreal.
@@kohnfutner9637 The appropriate comparison to the R3 would be the Elac Adante bookshelf, which is basically a head-to-head competitor to this. I would be very curious to hear an A/B between those, especially someone who does a long-term review.
Hey Steve! Would love to hear your thoughts on this unconventional speaker brand: Edifier S3000Pro. They sound comparable to the Klipsch rp 600’s. Happy holidays everyone!
Speaking of Lithuania, it would great if you would review a Lithuanian made turntable and tonearm for your Lithuanian fans. And me. Great choices Steve. Happy holidays to all.
Hey Steve great video. How would you say the Cornwall IV compares to the Maggie concept/prototype speakers you just heard the other day? I'm planning on upgrading my speakers in the next year or two.
My favorite time is “speaker of the year.” We put out a whole deli spread at my house and watch this. So Steve, no joke Lithuania has 3 million people which would make it the 3rd largest city in America. A very progressive place and productive economy. Shout out to our friends in the “Baltic Tiger.”
I own a pair of Klipsch Cornwall II's that I bought brand new in December 1986 for $1184 (pr) + $32 for the optional riser bases. They still look and sound like new.
Try those new 400 S speakers that everyone is raving on about. They have a passive radiator and it seems that it will "mimic" a much larger speaker. Why do I say this. I compared my 6" vented speakers with vented 10" speakers and they just didn't compare (both speakers are the same brand drivers, only different size). The 10" was way BIGGER and the kick drum was so sharp compared to the 6" speakers. Way more fun to listen to. But then I set myself a challenge to make my 6" speakers sound more like the 10" speakers. They were both bass vented so I decided to convert my 6" speakers to passive radiator and yes they do sound way more like the larger 10" speakers with the same sort of kick drum "slap". And the 6" bass is BIG, way bigger than when they were vented. So I decided to change my 10" bass speakers into passive radiator speakers and they are way better too, even BIGGER. But the 6" ones sound way BIG just by themselves and I don't need the bass speakers, all cos of the passive radiator concept. I would only add the 10" bass speakers for a full on bass effect. They are just woofer bass speakers but the definitely sound like subs. The drivers are JAYCAR 6.5" woofers and JAYCAR 10" woofers. The 10" are like $50 each and the 6" are like $30 each. No joke it's the "best bass in the world" those drivers KICK with the passive radiator. The crossover for both bass speaker sections... just one 5.6 mh inductor on each woofer (and resisted a little bit to match bass level with the med). Those drivers in a passive radiator box with 5.6 mh KICK like crazy. I might try the Dayton woofers, good CHEAP stuff. And this is the reason why you should try those 400 S speakers with the passive radiator. You get that BIG SOUND with smaller speakers (like the passive radiator bluetooth speakers do). But scaled up to full size speakers, imagine how incredible they would sound with the passive radiators (like those 400 S speakers supposedly sound). And mine do.
Steve, please do a review on the Abacus C-Box 3. By far the best mini nearfields I’ve heard and now own. Even better if yu can get ur hands on the concrete versions made by Monolit in Sweden. I have this particular model and am stunned by the sounds emanating from such small boxes! Somehow they have NO tuned ports, passive radiators or DSP, yet are able to play all the way down past 35HZ! A tiny analog, closed box design! Anyways, would love to hear what yu hear from these stunning units.. Other than that, keep up the great work Steve!! 🎵🔊
Steve, great show! I have a question...I'm building a new house and I want to out a home theater / 2 channel music listening room in. I'd like your thoughts on speakers that will work for both. I love Maggie's but they will be no good for movies, I think Klipsch are too bright for my music. I'm actually considering Ohm. Can you help and I think a lot of us would find value in your ideas. I plan on using a high end integrated with bypass to run the 2 channel and an AVR receiver when I do movies. Thanks!!
I am from Lithuania and you're certainly big here. Actually you told me about the Elac Debut line. I got the Debut 6.2 and they are amazing to my taste, such a wide scene they create and balanced just to my taste. Come visit Lithuania, you'll be surprised (in a good way)🤞🏻👏
It’s good to see these regular brands mentioned in the line up. How about some studio monitors like HEDD Type 20? In terms of clarity, neutral, high fidelity sound and some super deep end they might even best KEF R7; let alone R3. Why not have some such creative suggestions in your line up?
The Maggie’s are great, and about as opposite from the budget klipsch (from last year) that one can get. Both are terrific. Save up for both, and buy used!
Which would be truer to transitions in hard Rock like Zeppelin, RUSH, Iron Maiden, and Pink Floyd? I'm looking for cleaner vocals and bass that's not muddy.
@@thisismagacountry1318 if you want extremely accurate and almost holographic...magnepan. I have also heard the KEF R3 and it was really difficult to choose between that and a magnepan 1.7i both with a Revil 10 sub. I am not a huge fan of the sub $2k Klipsch and I've never heard the larger ones. The 2 I am suggesting will do Rock just fine.
The Klipsch look like a very vintage design. I've never heard them but am really curious. Its interesting how difficult it can be to describe the differences between speakers sometimes. Most people can probably imagine what 'bright' or 'boomy' would be, but scale is one of the ones you have to experience to really appreciate I think. I only say this because the description you gave is about the best you can give, but still doesn't really convey the difference between listening to a small bookshelf speaker and a large one like those Cornwalls. I never really appreciated it until recently myself. I have a pair of bog standard big box JBL speakers as a part of my home theater. And they sound OK, and they get pretty loud. But, my dad has a pair of Altec speakers (looks like the Model 19 but slightly different). They are big cabinets, basically furniture, and the way they fill a room is hard to describe. I never really appreciated it until visiting recently and he was playing some music on them. They *really* fill a room, and you need a large room to really appreciate them. When I say 'fill a room' i'm not talking about how loud they get, either. They're just very....there. My JBLs sound nice, but they'd disappear in a space those Altecs would shine in. I really want to listen to some Cornwalls now.
Love the contrasts between these three very different speakers. I'd love to have LRSs to go with my Forte IIs (powered with a Schiit Aegir). The price of the LRSs is great but I'd have to get more amps to drive them (a Vidar, as SG suggests?). Might be worth it!
Hi Steve, enjoying your reviews from Tasmania (that island to the south of Australia). Your honesty and passion for audio are what got me to subscribe. I wish we could purchase the Klipsch Cornwall IVs at a decent price here - they currently retail for USD $10,766 in Australia! Anyway, hoping you have a Merry Christmas.
