That's funny. That is exactly what happened to me. I went to the VA for help with depression, and next thing I know I've got an ASD diagnosis. What is worse is that I told my family and my mother was like "oh yeah, they did that when you were child, we just didn't believe it". When I told my ARMY friends, they were all "oh yeah, you mean you didn't know that?".
@dr.oetqer

I can relate to your story. Only after a teacher asked me if I ever got the proper support for my ADHD, after yet another failed professional education program, and got a depression, I was finally diagnosed with ADHD (ADD). At the time I was in my late twenties. It was a major relief to me to realize I wasn't just lazy or crazy, but there was actual something wrong, or better different, with me, but I still felt ‘socially awkward’. Afterwards my mother told me that she already knew (or suspected) this when I was a young boy at elementary school but didn’t think that a diagnosis would matter or could be beneficial to me. Just a little over a year ago, at almost forty, I was finally diagnosed with ASD. During a treatment for PTSD and panic attacks, the topic of ASD came up during a conversation with my psychiatrist, about the overlap between ASD and ADHD. It was as if someone turned the lights on and I could finally explain so much of all the feelings and struggles I have and am still experiencing all my life.

@@dr.oetqer Unfortunately many mental health professionals don't know how to spot it. Been in therapy for over 5 years and never had one suggest I could be autistic. Someone even thought I was narcissistic, was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Less than a year ago I was diagnosed with ADHD which actually fits, however there are still gaps it doesn't cover. When I came across a youtube video describing what it FEELS like to be autistic rather than the criteria, I was like, holy shit thats me, but when I look at the criteria I ddin't see how it fit. Its been a couple years since and watching many videos, and what started as a suspicion has become a certainty, and explains why I have most of the problems I have. You cant fix something if you are addressing the wrong cause. Best video I ever watched was Autism and PDA, when no doesn't mean no, by the channel autistamatic. That video is literally what I wish I could communicate to people.

@@randomlyentertaining8287 As much as it sucks, we have inherent traits that are admirable. In my case, I am exceptional at most forms of art. I can easily comprehend complex engineering, whether it be cars, guns, or architecture. I also find that when I am around others like me, we click. I don't feel so alone anymore. If you are surrounded by neurotypicals, you need to find people who understand you. It's not that we necessarily lack social skills. It's more so that we just think on a different level than most. At least in my experience.

Now I couldn't imagine getting half way through one in an hour lol im still undiagnosed but it's comforting to know there's a cause to my neuroticism. It's kinda 2D graph, one axis is 'tism, second is "adhd". If you're low on both axis, then you're a normie (neurotypical), the rest is a matter of exact individual mixture xD Though there's also the Tourette, OCD and Major Depression "trifecta" that's often comorbid with either 'tism or "adhd". Basically it's "brain overclock with a bag of random side effects"

The way you can tell you got really good scores on the ASVAB is when the USAF shows up at your door to talk to you even tho you took it for the Army. The awkward moment when I told em they'd have to drive to Jackson to talk to my boy and one said "mississippi?" and I chuckled.

Ok, been an AJ Wilkerson fan for a little while, about six months. This was such a great surprise and I'm glad you guys had him on. Jack is great too. Brandon, always a treat. This was a great one, even if it was kind of thrown together last minute.

how is it yall keep getting better and better. side note my my nephew is on the spectrum and as we were learning about autism the signs and behaviors my entire family looked me and we collectively decided we now understood me so much more as well and it was both hilarious and disturbing to come to the realization hmm im probably autistic but its to late now to really do anything about it.

While at basic training, my saw got caked up with carbon and sand because of some rain and a little low crawling. Once we got back from our FTX, when we started cleaning weapons, I realized my saw wouldn't lock back to the rear so I put it on its stock and kicked the charging handle to the rear. It ejected a blank, surprising the shit out of me. Not a live but still one hell of a surprise!

I loved this episode! Being Autistic, this was the most Autistic conversation I've ever seen on RU-vid. Just all over the place, no real thread through it all, just whatever comes up and everyone enjoying themselves, being themselves, laughing and making jokes. It was great.

Answering C on government tests used to be a thing. My dad was a firefighter and when I was young we got to hang out with a lot of firefighters and police officers that were ex military and the common mantra back then was "when in doubt charlie out" meaning that if you were ever struggling with a question answer c. The rumor was that if you answered C on every answer you would pass no matter what because the test was designed to be that way.
