I love that Chris Tomlin and other contemporary artists try to modernize the old hymns, but nothing beats straight up high country singing. God Bless the Avett Brothers.

That "Split tail" (really?) is Tania Elizabeth from The Duhks. She has played a bunch of shows with them starting in Green Bay last year, and she is already booked with them for almost the entire 2014 tour.
