This TV film is spawned by a true story where a marauding fisherman accosts a pair of newlyweds in the Northwest wilderness. He kills the young groom, rapes the bride, and then forces her to live with him as he attempts to convince her that it was just an unfortunate accident.

Any man that takes a woman against her will is a coward. He cannot win the love of a woman so has to take what doesn't belong to him, like a thief. In trying to prove his superior strength using fear is only showing his weakness. A man like that, is not fit for any woman and deep down he knows it.

I wonder why man like that(bullies) can not see themselves or is it a matter of taking the easy way?

This detective guy deserves the biggest credit, if he wasn't there then this case would have remained closed forever maybe. A terrifying real life story! Sympathy to Candra.

For those who think Candra was partly to blame: The Stockholm Syndrome is real, and ex-cop (and True Crime queen) Ann Rule--in her novel, Possession-- outlines this Candra-type case brilliantly..

Hi L Mack, not sure about showing off, my role was very very small however I was in several movies of the week. Why are you so interested? I am darn proud to have worked with Richard Jaeckel for several days actually. He was an awesome actor. An Author is writing his biography and asked me many questions about his nature / working personality. Did you actually watch this CBS movie of the week ? I am the younger sheriff who actually carries the body bag. And appeared several times in various locations.

Dan Moberly Just curiosity, Moberly, and yours was the comment on the top of the list. Yeah, I watched it. It was a bit stupid, but "movie of the week" makes me feel nostalgic, so I like watching them anyway.

White Water Rebel, filmed in Kern County ( Lake Isabella) was just a background Extra , just had a lot of fun. Catherine Bach and James Brolin . Richard Jaeckel was just exceptionally friendly on the set. I was eating breakfast provided by Catering, (Craft Services) on location early one morning and He just came up with his plate of food and asked if he could join me, not really knowing him at all, but Knowing of him. A very kind person. I just remembered him from Bonanza and "Sometimes a Great Notion" with Henry Fonda

The moment the couple noticed the gun with that stranger in that deserted place, they should've lost no time in fleeing from that place. .....Instead they choose to romance in skimpy clothes in presence of a stranger in a deserted place . Though I am extremely concerned and affected by what Candra went through, and his husband and dog had to lose their life for no valid reason.... But we should always be careful about the surroundings and body language of strangers around to safeguard ourselves

It was the 70s. People had more trust in strangers. People were more innocent and especially in Oregon. I grew up in Oregon in the 70s and 80s. While it's crazy to think a couple would blindly put faith in a stranger today, it was not uncommon then. Also seems strange a teenager would be married today, but back then it wasn't unheard of.

I hate to be negative but Blanche Baker might be considered a bit homely compared to her mother or to modern stars like Jessica Morris or Penelope Cruz. A re-make with a more luscious star and a narrative following the psychology of Ann Rule's novel Possession could be a classic sexually moving, suspenseful film like Dr. Zhivago.

This movie was torture to see it through to the very end. "Brainwashing," and even moreso, "Stockholm Syndrome" don't exist, PARTICULARLY not in the way that it was portrayed in this film. The fact is that people can end up staunchly believing anything regardless of what it is and what the circumstances. "Stockholm Syndrome" is essentially an individual's rational response to the environment they're in, which comes from basic human empathy. If you're stuck in a situation with someone you're completely opposed to, the normal response is to eventually develop empathy towards them if you rely on them. People attempt to diagnose a "disorder" for this type of behaviour if the rational change of ideologies is beyond what they can comprehend. It's the same idea with films like "The children of the corn." Our only way to conceptualize Nazism was to dehumanize the German people who supported it as emotionless beings. The same thing goes for how we stereotype paedophiles or serial killers. The human instinct to do that (dehumanize humans we can't empathize with) is no more of a "syndrome" than "Stockholm Syndrome."

Hi Angie, I couldn't agree with you more about this movie :-) Paul Windkos the director was so typical of working with a poor script etc. The Actors only had so much to work with as well. I look back on it, and yes it was done very poor!! LOW BUDGET for sure. Fun to work on, the locations were beautiful, and the Actors very friendly - but they got paid pretty well. Not one to really brag about however. Thanks for your Honest Comments
