I think it’d be kinda interesting if somebody wrote a story about Thomas meeting an “A day out with Thomas” engine. Imagine Thomas meeting an engine pretending to be him…

This "Thomas" is probably the most star studded Thomas out of all the ones that have been seen at Heritage railways... it was the subject of a triple header special train that inspired Christopher Awdry to write "Triple Header", he lives on a railway that's played host to Roger Moore in the James Bond film "Octopussy", "Thomas" even enjoyed a nice day in the limelight with the BBC in 1995 during the height of a Children's TV revolution, on a kids magazine show called "Playdays" alongside children's TV personality Dave Benson Phillips on a run up to Ferry Meadows (I kid you not). He's even canon in the lore of the Thomas universe, with it making out he's always wanted to meet Thomas in person (a nice little concept for people of the pen there).

I like those Hudswell Clarke side tanks in general, I find them pleasingly chunky.

Trivia fact: Dr. Beeching, the chairman of BR, happened to be on a train that had broke down and was stunned to find that the rescue engine pulling was, not Flying Scotsman, but the Nene Valley Railway Thomas itself pulling it.

Great video, but at 2:26 that's the wrong locomotive. That's Gothenburg, another 0-6-0 based with the Manchester Ship Canal, and later the East Lancashire Railway. She was built in 1901. Its quite easy to tell them apart as 1800 has outside cylinder, a Westinghouse Pump by her smokebox, and a gap in her boiler. 32 Gothenburg has shorter tanks and is generally smaller in comparison. I think 32 deserves her own video, as she has an interesting history and plays thomas at a railway in Poland. Edit: Another difference is that 1800 still has a black running board, however 32 changes, she sometimes wears a black running board when in MSC Dark Blue, and a white one when she is dressed up as 'Thomas' 32 is 121 yrs old and also was one of the first engines to arrive at the East Lan-ca-shire (to help pronunciation, the I is silent) railway in 1985-87. Back then, the railway was a menial 4 miles. Now, that has trebled to 12 miles of line running through Manchester and into Lancashire.

Always nice to see a video on this blue lad. Would love to see you cover the Mid Hants Railway's Thomas at some point. It was constructed in 1994 during the height of the TV Series's popularity and wheres Nene Valley Thomas is based on the RWS version of the character, the Mid Hants Thomas is directly based on the TV Version with Britt Allcroft and Co having a fairly big say during the engine's construction such as making the decision to give the engine a sloped running board like in the TV Series.

I remember years ago when I was very little, it was when day out with Thomas was on but there was one problem Thomas had broken down so he wasn't running. That night I went to where I was staying as I was on holiday and I made thomas a get well card. The next day we went to the station where he was to deliver the card and that's when the engineer came to the station and offered to take me to see him. So I did we went out to the yard and there he was and I even got to sit in his cab still have the pictures somewhere. The engineer even put the card I made over Thomas's fireplace. It wasn't this thomas but it was still a thomas and in fact toad was in front of him.

Bro, the BSC sold the “Thomas” for almost 132 bucks! I should’ve been a live in 1973 to buy it.

Here is a bit of my headcanon for Thomas. Apparently he was built by Hudswell Clarke as a inside cylinder tank engine in 1914 and the tests proved mostly successful (the extended tanks aren’t exclusive to the E2s) and in 1915 he was sent to Sodor to help with the construction and in 1916 he was sold to Sodor due to them not having a use to him. Henceforth our Number 1 was official.

I’ve been on one of these Thomas replicas as a kid. One in a Day Out with Thomas event in Llansamlet in Swansea. But I think the one I went on was a jinty.

I've heard about this Thomas and wanted to see it for quite some time. Also nice job at butchuring the pronounciation for Leicester which is the city I live in lol.

I feel Awdrys general dissatisfaction with the illustrations/the general real world lackluster performance of the E2 led to the approval of this Thomas, as it feels like with both possibilities fitting Awdrys later canonical changes to Thomas' appearance, as well as having the sort of history the Rev. Either liked the real world basises for his engines to have, or would write for one of the engines himself. Honestly the history of this engine feels very at home with the History of Sodor: it's people and places, etc.
