I really love it when Porsche every couple of years just goes absolutely crazy and produces a car like this, the Carrera GT and 959 before it are just great examples when the boys and girls of Stuttgart roll up their sleeves and make some magic.

The shot at 0:20 is sheer Top Gear olden days brilliance. Seems like a demon that's approaching the mankind, arising from the horizon. Epic.

It's alright being a McLaren or a Ferrari fan and criticizing the Porsche 918, but don't go around saying "I'd take the P1/LaF on the track", "LaF/P1 are in a different league" etc... You honestly just sound stupid, the only thing you can criticize are the sounds and aesthetics(you are still being distasteful if you, in my opinion) The Porsche 918 is by far the most refined track production car in the world at the moment, it's #1 in the world for what it was designed to do. Why do you think the P1/LaF didn't post their times? because they know that Porsche engineers surpassed them this year. I'm a huge fan of the LaF/P1/Z06/Viper TA/GT-R and such but I just can't bad mouth the 918 spyder - the engineers did a fantastic job designing this car. Not only is it the most efficient with its impressive and superior V8, it also has a superior electric motor. You get the #1 track production car in the world with AWD, Luxury, Comfort, Efficiency and a lower price. A ton of respect to Porsche for coming out with the 918! P.S. All you Koenihgesagggeassgegeegegeaagagegeagag die hard, brain dead, fanboys... Yes the one:1 is an amazing car, but it has no track times posted. It's not designed to be a track car either way, it's designed to be the lightest and fastest accelerating production car in the world with the highest top speed. Totally different game, completely different price bracket and it will probably be inferior to the 918 on the track just because of the fact that it has so much power to the rear wheels and is so lightweight, the Agera R was an impressive car but it was definitely not a top 3 car on the track.

The P1 I'd take for track-only, but when it comes to the 918, I'd take it anywhere else, road-trip, just between school/work/home its good to go, probably even a little off-road.

Top gear inspired my filmmaking career and this video is some of their best work. Whoever directed and whoever edited this have done a stellar job. Absolutely amazing.

What a life to live, too have the Dubai track all to one's self, would be one of the finer moments in life.

Once I win the lottery, Porsche's gonna have $1.1 million in their profits. Edit: I'm surprised this comment is still getting attention. To be honest, I really don't care about modern supercars and hypercars anymore, the thought of not being able to maintain them yourself without threat of repossession sickens me.

I know people think the 918 is a competitor, but the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari are in a league of their own. The 918 doesn't compare. It's too fat and AWD

One of my favourite top gear videos ever, the production crew did really an excellent job. BBC can hire who they want, but top gear will never be as good again. Although Chris Harris is doing a good job, I really miss "THE 3 MUSKETEERS " 😢

This and the P1 are beautiful machines. The P1 is an exercise in sinister, and this is the usual Porsche mastery of beautiful brutal elegance.

I don't often comment on RU-vid, but I am compelled to do so as this is by far one of the best Top Gear episodes. And for anyone who hasn't seen it, watch the first episode of The Grand Tour in which they continue the story with this "Holy Trinity" of cars. The 918, P1, and LaFerrari truly ushered in a new era for supercars; the hypercars.

The Porsche 918 for me: Quicker launch, a launch as fast as the Veyron, Koeniggsegg One. 200 more torque than the P1 giving a faster launch from a corner. Top Speed of 345km/h, but cars can go faster than their top speeds. Elegance Luxury Alot more practical and futuristic but simple than the P1 and LaFerrari Can go close to 20 kms just on electric mode, nearly 3 times more than the P1 More eco-friendly than some Holden or Honda electric car that was named in this video. Most practical, best looking car. Sounds like music. Technologically advanced. Also capable to be used in your everyday lives. Sadly, the 918 and the other 2 hypercars are illegal here in Australia. Rating:10/10, 90/90, 100%

I literally lost count of how many times i watched this video, like over and over and over again, for some reason, i cant forget this and and hence stayed as my dream car and as the love of my life

The first sexy Porsche since the Carrera GT. Personally I like the looks of it more than the P1´s and the Ferraris´. It just looks classy and probably will be appreciated also in like 20 years or so. And to those who say it is not match for the P1 and Ferrari: 1. There is a drag race on RU-vid where the Porsche beats the P1 until around 160 mph so basically until it´s electric motor is shut down (Porsche don´t care about top speed and acceleration beyond those speeds, since you almost never reach them on track. 2. The Turbo also has never been a light sportscar, but can still compete with the best in it´s category. Not to mention it is more practical and I assume more comfortable as well. The build quality of Porsche again is just amazing. People did 50 (I think) launches with it´s launch control back to back to back and the car kept the same acceleration the entire time for all the 50 launches. So far we haven´t seen those three hybrids really competing, so nobody knows which of those will be the fastest.

Dark silver is the only colour this car should be in. It looks incredible and kind of reflects how the car has an ora of ground breaking engineering, especially with that energy recovery system.

Does anyone remember when Hammond said he would use the Zonda R to compete with the LaFerrari and P1 but instead he used this? Must've been in a whole different class to those two.

Great presentation as usual by Top Gear. So the 918 is also a fire spitter like the P1. I have to say that after watching quite a few videos of the 918, P1 and LaFerrari, I have come to the conclusion that the 918 is the pinnacle of automotive engineering. Leave it to the perfectionist Germans to pull it off. Come to think of it, how can a LaFerrari or a P1 lap a faster time than a 918 when both those cars are only two wheel drive and have only two wheel steering while the 918 has 4 wheel drive AND 4 wheel steering. No wonder it has much more grip and is more tame and refined around a track than the other two. However, unless one is out to win a race, I would rather opt for a seat-of-your-pants driving experience like the LaFerrar and P1 offer. The only color this car looks good in is silver. It really brings out the design.

I'm sorry but anyone who says that the p1 or the laferrari are better in any way are a bunch of blithering idiots, you may prefer it, i totally get it, but if you look at the facts, there is no fact which proves that the p1 is better or the laferrari for that matter. yes I understand that ferrari has more passion and is more exciting, but from a technical point of view, it's far from the p1 and 918, just like the p1 is far from the 918. and here is why: Considering the fact that 918 is so much more luxurious inside, instead of being completely bare and stripped out like the P1. it's better equipped, probably far more comfortable and refined on the road, far more usable in various weather conditions and on actual roads with bumps, surface changes and camber changes, and let's not mention infinitely more fuel efficient and green, it's a much better technical achievement than the P1, and I don't care whatever anyone says, that is a fact, if you don't agree, you're wrong. and as far as performance goes, the 918 is a record holder for the fastest acceleration production car at a stunning 2.2 seconds, top speed is 340km/h as opposed to the 349km/h of the p1, but that is not a point towards the p1 since 9km/h is to irrelevant and of any difference in those already high speeds, you're never going to reach them on any road or track. As far as cornering goes they are both very good but the porsche's AWD with traction control is superior to the mclaren's traction control with RWD and can take corners faster, also having in mind that it acclerates faster out of the corners, all of this adds up to a car that is the record holder for fastest production car around the nurburging at 6:57, now mclaren claim the p1 did it in less than 7 minutes, they also claimed the p1 would be the fastest production road legal vehicle around any track, so I now understand why it must be so embarrassing for them that the much more road focused 918 beat them ON A TRACK! because despite them doing it in less than 7 minutes chances are it wasn't fastest than the porsche which is why for the first time in history mclaren didn't release the times, and the fact that the p1 is slower around a track isn't even the best part, the best part is that when the p1 is put on race mode it becomes road illegal, so in other words, they are cheating, so if the road illegal cheat version of mclaren isn't faster than the porsche around the nurburging, imagine how much slower it must be when it's actually road legal. As I said, you liking the mclaren is fine, but claiming it's better and saying stupidity such as "the p1 is in a league of it's own" is idiotic and makes no factual sense. period. oh and did i forget, the porsche is way cheaper to.
