>inb4 omg he’s actually using the lantern engine ;) Thanks for watching guys, I’m pretty proud to finally get this done as I have been gathering research and working on this for 5+ months now lol... I hope it was an entertaining watch and I was able to share some interesting facts to take away from the video! I am interested to see how the reception of this video is as generally talking about music like this is pretty out of my comfort zone. I’d love to hear your guys feedback so please let me know if this is something you would like more of. Heroes concept art will be my next big project so stay tuned ^_^ CLARIFICATIONS: 1. Hey so as pointed out by NickGoblin in the comments, I made a mistake on my part as the "electric screwdriver" sound is actually at the end which can be heard here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ywd0jY7zNTc.html 2. Perfect Chaos Revival plays AFTER Open Your Heart as pointed out by Azulmagia and EvangeRei, I use BetterSADX on PC and you can flip the two having Open Your Heart play in the second phase instead. Sorry about the two goofs, those are my bad.... anyways hope everyone enjoys the video! One last but very important thing! Wanna give a HUGE shoutout to @WillEva21212121 on Twitter for going out of his way to remake this official art of Sonic w/ headphones I used for the original thumbnail of this video...now in HD! Make sure to go check his page out! As once said by SEGA...the difference is night and day ;) Thanks again!!
Of course, happy I was able to deliver on it :D Thank you for watching! also dont worry as there is going to be 3 more videos covering this topic of the adventure games lololol ;)
Small correction: Perfect Chaos Revival plays AFTER Open Your Heart, as a reverse of the way that the final boss music tends to go for the rest of the series.
Hey thanks for the clarification, I use BetterSADX on PC and you can flip them which has just become 2nd nature to me so I glossed over that when writing, my mistake! Hope you enjoyed the video :D
Gamma’s Theme Made be tear up during his final moments, while Knuckles’ Theme was funky and uplifting. Open Your Heart felt powerful when fighting Chaos(Crush 40 will forever be legends). Sonic Music really brings out the Emotion
Amen to that! Gamma's is such a great track with that touch of melancholy which is also felt in Tikal's such a beautiful soundtrack overall. Thanks for watching :)
I think that Gamma's theme being the only playable character theme without vocals is perfect. It captures more the fact that he's a robot and the arc he goes through. Definately my favourite character theme. Believe in Myself is my 2nd favourite theme and also a great character development song for Tails.
I never thought of it that way but it certainly makes sense, great insight! The themes enhance the characters so much and without this soundtrack I truly think alot of the core of SA1 wouldn't have had the same impact. Thank you for watching!!
I remember someone saying that the inicial robotic sounds seem to say "it's my pleasure, ready to die", which also makes sense for Gamma since at the beginning of his story he was like a soldier with no will of his own, only knowing to obey orders and die if he must to fulfill said orders, but even after getting freed from Eggman's control he was still willing to sacrifice himself to do what he believed was the right thing.
Jun Senoue is one of the most talented and versatile guitarists to ever pick up the instrument, yet he'll never be seen on the same level as Clapton or Steve Vai because he makes video game music
There’s so many great tracks in SA that it’s hard to pick one as my favorite! But if I had to single one out, it’d be “Open Your Heart”. The guitar riff is so catchy, and it has so much energy that makes it perfect boss music.
This soundtrack is a masterpiece of gaming music. The passion and the hype that comes out of the music is contagious. As for favorite theme, it would either have to be Open your Heart or Gamma’s theme.
great video, can't wait for the one on the level and hub themes! sa1 is probably my favorite soundtrack of all time just because its pretty cohesive and every single song is so good. Its nice to see someone else talk about how they appreciate it that much as well
Hey billehbawb, dude it really means alot for you to check my content out....I was just watching a video of yours the other day how funny xD SA1's OST is up there for me, both adventure games feature such masterpieces of OSTs that really make the games in my eyes. Really appreciate you checking the video out and hope you stay tuned for whats to come :D
The "Hey big guy (Hey, little guy), Cant you tell me what's inside? (Sorry, but I dont know)" is referring to Froggy swallowing a Chaos Emerald and part of Chaos. That's what I think at least.
If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be knickles theme. It just feels so alive and energetic to me. Its a song feuled by passion and wonderful ideas. Eggmans theme is pretty funky too, upbeat and fast. And Chaos 6......phenominal
The character themes from SA1 interpret every character's personality really well. My favourite is definitely "Unknown from M.E." It's a very catchy song and the melody is perfect. While Eggman's SA1 Theme is overshadowed by "E.G.G.M.A.N." it fits well with the cutscenes here. Gamma's Theme is also one of my favourites. The piano is what makes the song this good. Also I want to point out that the beginning of "Believe in Myself" is very similar to Bridge Zone from Sonic 1 (8-bit). And one quick note: If the reused tracks from 3D Blast are going to be featured in the next video on SA1's music just remember that they are based on their Demo counterparts and not the in-game ones (search up Sonic 3D Blast Demo Takes, Windy Valley Sky, Twinkle Cart & Castle are from here).
Hey BWF! Thanks for watching and I am with ya on the tracks and such they're all so phenomenal and fit the characters so well. I didn't know that about BiM being similar to Bridge Zone, interesting! As for the reused tracks...thanks for the heads up I did here about this but I will certainly be using them in the video :)
Sonic adventure collectively had the most ambitious soundtrack for a video game when I grew up so of course it stuck with me. Love hearing the behind the scenes to them, do keep this up
Sonic Adventure on DreamCast blew me away as a kid... everything about it captivated me and those vocal themes were just that cherry on top of the beautiful cake. I lost myself in this games world or countless hours, every day for months and months and months after getting it for Christmas on the year of its release
You're lucky to have played it when it was new. I didn't discover this wonderful game until about three years ago. I had just recently picked up a Dreamcast and I'd heard SA1 and SA2 were two of the best games on that system (along with many others). So, I hopped on eBay and found a listing that included both of them. And man, they blew me away, even though both of them were nearly twenty years old at the time. I just wish I'd played them sooner as I now consider them top tier Sonic games.
SA1 is amazing! I also used to play it alot when I was younger (DX is what I grew up with) but what was incredibly surprising to me is how well this game has held up, I 100% this year and when I go back for gameplay I STILL am finding new skips and shortcuts I can take...incredible! Thanks for watching
@@Eldarin Thanks for the reply. :) Nights is another game I've grown to love. You mentioned you've never played it before in the video, but I recommend you give it a try. ;)
My favourite is probably Gamma's theme. The combination of extremely techno music with a sad piano makes such a good contrast. With words that are so distorted it's hard to understand them. "It's my pleasure. Ready to die" seems to be the most common interpretation online.
Occasionally I remember that Chaos was in Forces. Imagine how insane a fight with them would be... especially with those graphics. I know Sonic does not have the best animations, but my jaw dropped when I saw Chaos. He looked so good. I wish Forces was a better game. So much potential.
Thank you so much Nova really means alot to hear that! I just love being able to talk about sonic and other video games I enjoy along with hopefully giving an appreciation for games people may or may not like by seeing another angle on them. Thanks for watching!!!!
Gammas theme may be my favorite theme of any video game character. SA is probably the only game I could have all the music downloaded on my phone and listen to in the car shamelessly
11:50 it was used in Sonic and the Black Knight too. During the scene after the final credits. Where Sonic was explaining to Amy of how he missed their date.
So happy you liked the video! Let me know how you enjoy sonic's story in SA1, also thanks for the compliment on my PFP it was done by Novika who has alot of awesome Sonic content. Thank you for watching :DD
15:05 While it isn't a mainline game, the Sonic expansion for LEGO Dimensions actually did feature Lazy Days, in addition to every other lyrical theme from Sonic Adventure.
I love the songs on Crush 40, I think it's my favorite band and it's almost impossible for you not to like their music both songs with vocals and those without vocals are very good, you can make a playlist full of them, it's even difficult to choose a favorite song
You get the 1st award this time 🥇 lolol Seriously though, I’m really happy you enjoyed the video & I was able to share some new info with ya, it means a lot to me!!:)))
SA1 has my favourite OST in the entire series! Nice to see what the composers thought of them too. Out of all the vocal themes, I think Knuckles' has to be my favourite! Hope the next mainline Sonic game has this much passion put into its soundtrack!
It made me very happy to see you not skip over Tikal's theme. It's incredibly underrated, and I only recently listened to it all the way through. I can't believe it took me so long to come to appreciate it , it's unlike anything else in most Sonic soundtracks and it's brilliant.
100% agree with you, that track has an emotion to it I found incredibly hard to put into words. Just so much complexity in my opinion, absolutely beautiful. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video!
@@Eldarin I very much enjoyed the video and am enjoying going through all of your content. It's all very well done, I was shocked to see that it's all so recent.
The music in this game is so good I just remember when I first played Adventure I just stayed there sometimes bopping my head to the music! Even Big’s theme lol
I right with ya! The tracks in this game really help make the lasting impact the adventure games are so beloved for..imo at least. Thanks for watching :))
People always wonder why Sonic music is always so good; well no wonder! With all this passion, thoughtfulness, and effort put in these tracks you're bound to get amazingness every single time OML Wonderful vid Eldarin! You did a great job talking about something that you don't normally discuss; keep it up! 👌💝
Man you're killing it with these videos Your passion in them is like the one from the composers. Adventure 1 and 2 were the games i most replayed as a kid Let's say my musical taste was borned here Every theme in this game is a banger
Hey Hugo! It really means alot to hear that...I am with you as these games were a big part of my childhood and helped develop my music tastes also.. Thanks so much for watching it really means alot :D
Ah, the whole reason why I'm even into this series. The music tracks or character themes were at their peak during this era. This is what you call true passion and care, something that this series no longer has now or as of late, especially when we consider these older platinum titles that were clusterd with so much care and creativity..
Hey Av, 100% with ya, I do hope in the new games for the 30th anniversary we do get something that has this amount of passion and care into it as the feeling of "soullessness" has certainly been felth for a while :/ Thanks for watching it really means alot
@@Eldarin No prob G. Yh I guess we have to wait until the company gets themselves together, since its nearly been two decades or at this point Generations ;) since the series was in its own massive spotlight like how Mario is amongst other big names like halo amd so fourth. I mean the fact that this series heavily relies upon its much older and successful titles like the classics to still hold some relevance today just goes to show how much the franchise has plunged into almost nothingness. Like I swear to you, if it wasn't for the older games being so greate like the classics up till heroes and in this case unleashed and gen then I wouldn't of taken the slightest interest in this series let alone everyone other person who also admires these platinum classics.
Great video, I definitely feel like I learned some facts and trivia about the music in SA1. I will always forever feel goosebumps listening to every word of "Open you Heart", it's just that good. Even more so, when you listen to the song with intro visuals, makes it only that much better. Knuckles whole music collection also holds a special place in my heart.
Hey thank yoy so much it really means a lot to hear you enjoyed the video! I agree OYH is a BANGER...truly a iconic piece of music in all of gaming imo. Thanks for watching!
I agree this soundtrack is awesome, and now that you point that out it makes sense about the emerald lmao Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed :D (also nice pfp)
Thanks so much Billie! It was done by Novika who makes alot of great sonic content...as for the theme's im with you 100%, Tikal's has REALLY grown on me especially the soundtrack version with the chants and all, really makes me feel a type of way lol. Thanks for watching!!
As a frankly jaded Sonic fan who over the years tends to question if their once love for the series still even exists, this game's soundtrack and especially the vocal tracks never fail to remind me why I grew so attached to it in the first place. It's a shame that Sonic's friends slowly became footnotes in his games, because I think they were honestly essential to creating so much of the personality the two Adventure games and Heroes had. It's crazy to think how much more entertaining these characters were to watch in 1998 whereas today they've become so watered down that it's practically insulting, but that's a whole other discussion.
Took the words out of my mouth xD The soundtracks in these games are timeless and it was incredibly refreshing seeing the team actually function and get stuff done compared to other games...that released recently.....;) Thanks for watching, means alot :)
22:54 when Jun speaks of the electric screwdriver (he meant drill), he wasn't referring to the effect you played. That effect was a chorus pedal. He means that high pitched whining at the end of the song. It's in the intro version when you boot up the game, I think. Jun Senoue has cited Van Halen as a large influence on him and if you listen to Poundcake you can hear Eddie Van Halen doing the same technique at the beginning of the track. The drill has the same magnetic effect that the strings have, so when it spins at a high speed it causes an interference with the guitar pickup.
That's where I thought it happened myself when I learned about that, despite initially thinking that it was more like a whammy bar trick. It was through Paul Gilbert with Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy I first saw someone doing that, never knew Eddie Van Halen also did it.
Hey there that’s my mistake thank you for the clear up. When I was researching I couldn’t find anything to exactly pinpoint.. I’ll put a revision on the video and update it. This was pretty out of my comfort zone in terms of analyzing so thanks for the clarification! Hope you enjoyed the video :)
@@Eldarin talk about a perfectly good excuse to come back and rewatch it again :) Also here's a clip of Paul Gibert using the drill in action and making the noise like Open Your Heart ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T4PFEBBp4FQ.html (1:46) I think I did make mention of it being from that song when I was trying to say about it that first time when I was having trouble trying to make my comment on the thanks video with the info, but I must have forgotten when I did end up getting it through.
@@Eldarin the video was awesome. I don't really feel like it's a big enough mistake to warrant reuploading it but if you feel it's necessary I'll totally watch the video again
Very good interesting data, the Gamma theme is amazing in my opinion, it shows us an environment in which a machine has to do something for a specific purpose. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching means a lot! I agree it’s such a melancholic yet joyful piece that really is a beauty to listen to especially on this phenomenal OST!
I have always preferred sa2's ost over sa1's, but it has some amazing bangers. Open Your Heart is one of my favorite Crush40 songs. Gamma's theme had always been special to me. I can't wait for the video on stage songs!
Hey Memsly thanks so much for checking the video out, means alot..Chaos in forces looked amazing..I wish they actually used him (by the way theres a mod on YT that someone made that has classic sonic fight Chaos, check it out!) I'm really happy to hear you are excited for the stage song video..stay tuned ;)
Not sure if you might have thought this yourself, but I recently recalled a thought I had between the two versions of It Doesn't Matter from about a year ago now. Given the slower, more laid back nature of the SA1 version it feels more like the older brother, while SA2's is more like the younger, wilder one of the two, given its much quicker tempo.
As an "older" Sonic fan, its been quite endearing to see the younger generation profess their love and excitement for this game. As I look back throughout the years, I feel as though there was an "anti-Sonic" phase that both the mainstream review sites, and gamers alike indulged in. (Yes, there were a few bad games). As someone who was active and an avid gamer during the 5th and 6th console generation, ( SEGA Dreamcast Era) I see that the love, care, passion and dedication that was put into this game was overlooked for quite some time. As you've pointed out, this soundtrack was certainly amazing, and sought out new ground that hadn't been the norm at the time. Anyways, great video!
Thank you so much for watching! I agree there was certainly an era of "sonic was never good" which I find ludricous because even in the "bad" games they all always have SOMETHING that is done incredibly well which is why I think we have the fan base attracted to all games in the franchise. I personally just missed the era (Im 20) of the Dreamcast as I mainly had a gamecube and so its certainly interesting hearing a perspective from someone who was an avid gamer during that era. I appreciate the insight and glad you enjoyed the video, means alot to me :)
I hope you don’t mind a really long comment, but your videos keep getting better and better! Loving the quality of them lately! Thanks for going into such depth about who did what and giving your opinion on them. I could feel your admiration for Tails’ theme. I don’t know if I agree with the notion that Sonic Adventure really pushed vocal themes as a norm for gaming. Considering anime and even games often had tape cassettes and audio drama CDs throughout the 90s in Japan, I always felt it was more of an expansion from that. Hence why Sonic has that Shounen Anime feel in some ways. I love all of the themes too, but I can’t really get behind Amy’s lyrics. I love the “Ha ha fire fire, sweet sweet you’re so sweet” parts, but the other parts like literally shaving their... cat... yeah.... I’m so glad you talked about Fumie Kumatani. She’s actually one of my favorite Sonic composers ever. She did the AMAZING Egg Carrier theme! I feel like her songs throughout the series always packed a special, memorable and emotional punch! I miss her special touch so much. I just hope she’s doing well. I noticed you pronounce her name as Fumi (foo-me, like Amy) when it’s Fumie (foo-me-eh, like Way). She also did the Babylon Rogues’ non-vocal themes in the Riders games. She was a special force that I feel didn’t get enough praise in her prime! Thanks again for making such enjoyable Sonic content! It’s always so much fun to see it and I’m glad you can send such positive vibes into the community.
Dennis my friend, I LOVE long comments so never worry about that! I really appreciate the kind words hearing stuff like this really makes my day...Kumatani is AMAZING! I never knew about her until researching for the video and she is seriously has made such an impact on this franchise that most people didn't even realize (myself included) SA1 &2 wouldn't pack the same punch if it wasn't for the composers like her in my eyes. Didn't know about the Babylon Rouges' non-vocal themes being done by her..how interesting! I'm really happy that the videos are fun as my view on it is I'm a sonic fan and I love this franchise so much and while we all have games that we may not like and stuff its frustrating that Sonic has become the franchise to be a complete punching bag in recent years when this franchise has brought so much to gaming in general and personally I think there's aspects in each game that is 10/10 (((((except S4E1))) )and should have the spotlight shown on it even if I don't like the game as a whole (which is why I made this channel). Thanks so much for supporting the channel and checking the video out it really means alot to me :)
Dang, never realised the noise at the end was an electric screwdriver (Jun was probably inspired by the intro of Poundcake by Van Halen, which uses the exact same trick)
It's difficult to explain to someone younger who grew up with more modern games just how cinematic this game felt to us that played it when it came out. There was NOTHING else like it. I remember watching the cutscenes of the final story leading to the last confrontation with Chaos and thinking to myself "This is like watching an actual movie". And in regards to the topic of this video, the soundtrack, I still say it just might be the best soundtrack ever composed for a video game.
I agree! I experienced SA1 with SADX when it came out but I remember how cinematic this game was when I was younger along with a soundtrack that is the greatest of all time only to be topped by its sequel in my opinion. Really a testament to how (no pun intended) in tune the composers were with what kind of vision sonic team was going for when making these games! Thanks for watching :)
This was such an interesting video. I LOVE SA1's music and honestly I agree with the majority of your opinion's. Oh my God man, your videos are sick! The depth you put into them makes it so much more engaging. Keep it up!
Thank you so much cosmo it really means alot to hear the support! I really appreciate you enjoyed the video and my other content...SA1's music is fantastic and will always hold a special place in my heart..thanks for watching!!!!
Aside from Open Your Heart, Unknown From ME has to be my favorite. Perfectly captures who Knuckles is and compared to the more smooth singing of his SA2 themes, the SA1 track is deeper and rougher (than the rest of them), which I personally like more. My Sweet Passion is a close second. Does a great job at highlighting Amy's upbeat and cheerful personality without making it one-note with her crush on Sonic. Funnily enough I started thinking about other character's themes while watching this video. All Hail Shadow/Throw It All Away, Dream Of An Absolution, Fly In The Freedom and Vela Nova started playing in my head. The latter especially because GOD WE NEED MORE HIDEKI IN SONIC GAMES!
Thanks for watching! I agree with you about UKFME & MSP perfectly describing their respective characters..I'd love to see more Hideki as from what I've heard of Rush's soundtrack that thing BANGS!
Another perfect video. I can tell you actually love the soundtrack and are being authentic. I legit get goosebumps when I talk about my favorite Game soundtracks with others, could talk about this stuff for hours.
Hey Knuckles, thank you so much for the kind words really means alot dude! I really do love this OST and im the same way I can talk about this game and SA2 for hours upon end, theyre fantastic! Thanks for watching :)
So happy to hear you enjoyed the video! I try to put all my sources in all of my videos in case you ever want to read up more onto the subjects..thanks for watching and glad to hear you enjoyed :))
So there's already 4 new videos on the Horizon; A video about SA1s stage music, a video about SA2s vocal themes, a video SA2s stage music, a video about Chao.
yes! The adventure music videos are not going to be back to back though as I want to start covering Heroes next (they’ll still be soon though don’t get me wrong) and the chao video is not over chao in general but a very specific chao and I’ll leave it at that. I’m not the biggest fan of the chao garden gameplay wise ( I love chao though and everything they brought to the franchise...just not into the whole virtual pet thing personally) and don’t really have much to add currently that hasn’t already been covered (check Cybershells chao garden video for a fantastic chao garden video)..let me know if you have any other questions and hope this clarified everything without spoiling what’s to come ;)
I'm glad I stuck with that and tried again passing that info onto and I'm glad you got some use out of it and thanks for the shout out. Third lucky and all that XD I miss the individual character and team vocal tracks from the Adventure games and Heroes, and while it was nice they were brought back in Team Sonic Racing with the Team Ultimate themes (though where the hell was It Doesn't Matter for Sonic!?), I do wish we would get more of them. And strangely enough while I do feel Believe In Myself and It Doesn't Matter being my favourites, after replaying SA1 a few years ago while I didn't hate the song I feel Lazy Days is sort of been growing on me a little... the demo track is also pretty good too, with Senoue doing lead guitar on it, using a wah pedal rather than the slide guitar, for the songs opening lead section. Also I kinda feel outside of Infinite's theme and Green Light Ride the vocal tracks have been pretty underwhelming throughout the 2010s when compared to other songs from from 98-09, like What I'm Made Of, His World, I Am... All of Me and last but by no means least, With Me . While compared to Colours' Reach For The Stars and it being too poppy for my liking, I think Fist Bump's music is great, I can't fault that, but the lyrics and vocals however are... kinda cringy and annoying. What with the singer trying to hit notes he cannot do. I recall Emi Jones calling Fist Bump a children's song, hence she went out of her way to rewrite the lyrics with her own rendition in Strength, which while as I said before, the song was great on its own with just the music but with the reworked lyrics it makes it so much better. Also with mentioning about With Me, how the the hell in Senoue get ex-Megadeth guitarist, Marty Friedman, onboard for that song!? One last thing, I recall seeing on the Sonic Fandom page that Lazy Days (Livin' in Paradise) is the only other vocal track, beside With Me, to feature two characters having a back and forth with each other.
Eh gotta give credit where credit's due ;) Lazy Days is by no means a bad song but basically how I quantify it is thats the only vocal track on SA1 that I can't play in a 30min loop xD. I'm with you on the evolution of the vocal tracks also, as I used to hate RftS but I am starting to like it now and Fist Bump is 100% a children's song but its still a fun listen once and a while. I always used to be the "video game music is cringe" guy when growing up but Sonic music was really my forte into the "genre" per se as to me 99% of Sonic music is music I would normally listen to with or without the name attached to it and its just phenomoal music in general and is able to really grab aspects of so many different genres on one soundtrack. I agree ab With Me! One of my favs and I also can't believe the got a frickin Megadeth guitarist aboard also..how cool! As always thanks for watching and supporting the channel, it means alot!
@@Eldarin I was also meaning to say about with Tokoi saying about Nikki Gregoroff sounding like a young Madonna I don't really hear it. However for the SA2 version of Believe In Myself, with Kaz Silver, I feel she reminds me alot of Debbie Harry from Blondie. Also with what I was saying about Paul Gilbert, it was on the Mr Big song, Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy. I'm also not sure if there might have been abit drill action on the very end of song, or do think that just must have been the whammy bar Senoue was using for it?
Oh my god yes. When I was a kid I used to just listen to all the songs on that "track listen" or whatever it was called for hours and hours. Tikal's and gamma's themes were my favorites not to mention the time I was so addicted to crush 40. Good times
Glad you enjoyed it! Tikal theme has grown as one of my favorites hands down, and do I say more about Gamma? xD thanks for watching really means alot!!
only 5 minutes in and i love the video, particularly because you didnt waste much time repeating the same general statements and expository information that many sonictubers tend to do. like you went straight into your specific topic and im loving it. also big's theme... "can you tell me what's inside?" might refer to the fact that froggy has eaten a chaos emerald also i love big's theme! to each their own
Hey thank you so much it seriously means a lot to hear that! I figured I can cut to the chase as at this point pretty much everyone knows about the whole Dreamcast stuff and all...Tbh I kinda regret writing I wasn’t a fan of the Big song as I really do like it but wasn’t feeling it when I wrote it so idk xD anyways thanks so much for checking the video out it really means a lot to me :D
@@Eldarin yeah no sweat! it was a great spend of my time. i love this soundtrack. like you i listen to open your heart all the damn time. believe in myself and it doesnt matter are incredibly personal to me as well, i even rarely listen to it doesnt matter to save it so it never gets old... it might be embarrassing to admit, but when i listen to it doesnt matter in full, i literally cry
It’s not embarrassing at all dude! I’m the same way with some other songs in the franchise like Endless Possibilities xD those songs are so good and have a lot of emotion all behind them. One that gave me chills recently was the S.A.M.E version of Live and Learn, I’d check that out it’s on RU-vid. They use an orchestral version of it and it’s beautiful
Oh god listening to every song and hearing you talk about them and how much you loved them made me giggle and tear like crazy, I've never tought about these songs in this way and this just broke me into tears, keep up the great work
Aww I'm happy the video was able to touch you emotionally like that, really means alot to hear that! Hey I love this franchise and this game and am always happy to share it with everyone :D
I really love how we've all just accepted Sonic Colors Remaster as fact. Like anything we say about it right now is going to age either extremely well, or November 2021 rolls around and we look like a bunch of schmucks
Great, I always loved things about music in games, to see what is the influence for composer and how they see characters, levels or even whole games. I remember using recorder in phone to get SA1 ost to listen on go.. good times. And after some time I got idea that "Open Your Heart" could plant a seed of rock-lover in little me ^^' One thing though, 2:53 "Perfect Chaos Revival" plays at second half of fight after Open Your Heart and not before it, hence why it's called "Revival")
Thats such a funny memory about the recorder xD Thats for the heads up about the switch up in the Open Your Heart/Revial mixup, I use SADX on PC and you can switch them so PCR plays first and OYH plays second and kinda forgot about that xD Thanks for watching :))
I too listen to “Open Your Heart” so consistently. It’s hands down my favorite Crush 40 song and one of my favorite rock songs of all time. In my eyes, it is for Sonic what Stan Bush’s “The Touch” is for Transformers. I didn’t know about the electric screwdriver part before, so that really surprised me. I know a lot of people favor the SA2 version of “It Doesn’t Matter” for it being more upbeat, but I’ve grown to like the SA1 version more. Maybe that’s just because I think SA1 has the better OST overall and I listen to it more often. As you know, I really like the echidna clan, in fact, I was even thinking of making a video about the complete history of Tikal, like her creation, design, and game appearances from SA1 onward. And I really like how her theme gives off vibes of the Maya culture. As far as the character themes go it’s easily a close second for me behind “It Doesn’t Matter”. Great job as always, I learned a lot of new stuff and now I have a greater appreciation for the process and people involved in making these themes.
Thanks so much for watching really means alot that you enjoyed it! Dude you should TOTALLY do a video on that, that would be incredibly sick! (Please send to me if you do) Tikal's theme is such a beautiful track imo. Also YOU GOT THE TOUCH YOU GOT THE POWAAAAAAAAAA
Thank you Carmen!! About TP, you would be surprised the number of tracks from this game came from Sonic 3D Blast! It's really weird how Senoue repurposed them but I imagine he probably had a soft spot for that OST since I believe that was one of his firsts..kinda cool!
I love basically all of the SA1 character vocal themes, but if I had to rank em.... 1) Unknown From M.E. (I love the SA2 version as well, but this version is absolutely incredible) 2) It Doesn’t Matter (the classic, the song in general might be my favorite theme that represents the character of Sonic) 3) Gamma’s Theme (having no lyrics for the character is a perfect idea) 4) Believe in Myself (This and the SA2 version are tied for me) 5) Lazy Days Livin’ in Paradise (love this song, totally fits Big and Froggy) 6) My Sweet Passion (love the instrumental, find the lyrics a bit odd. I think Amy’s Heroes theme is better in some ways, but I love MSP’s instrumental)
I like the rankings! They're all so great so its always hard for me to rank them lol! I also LOVE Follow Me...Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed!
So maybe you could say Doom Eternal owes a little bit to Sonic Adventure, for that whole "metal choir" thing... ...or maybe it's a stretch. But I'm gonna say it's not, 'cause that's more fun. You know, one thing I'm noticing as you talk about Amy's theme with the instrumental playing in the background, is that there may have been some subtle callbacks to that track in the daytime hub world song for Empire City in Sonic Unleashed. Never noticed that before. And, yeah, I think the Chaos 6 theme is still one of the very few songs in the Sonic franchise to use some kind of uncommon time signatures, and switch between them. That's something I love to hear in any music, and I love to do whenever I get the chance :)
I absolutely love the work East 4th Horns did on this OST. The whole jazz rock vibe they brought was what really sets the SA1 OST as standout in the series since it hasn't been done since.
100% with ya! It's just amazing to me how dedicated everyone was to this OST and SA2's OST to bring these absolute masterpieces. My favorite from E4H has to be Metal Harbour, those horns in that song are unmatched. Thanks for watching :)
I haven't been watching some of your stuff for a bit due to unrelated things, and due to me not wanting to watch some stuff on games I've never fully completed i.e. Heroes. I'm still on a journey through the Sonic games, and getting all 180 Emblems in SA2 with the chao, and am currently in Pinball Hell. Anywho, the interview was incredibly correct with the first three seconds being memorable. I never even noticed, but they really are that punch-in-the-face. It's some powerful stuff. And by God, did they do their job right with making the characters. When I think of Sonic, I may not initially think of Sonic Adventure (admittedly pretty close tho), but if I think of the characters, it's purely Adventure. I can't believe that Lazy Days is your least favorite of the bunch. I know you said it still wasn't bad, but it's my non-Sonic friends' favorite. That or Believe In Myself. I think the song is humorous, and has absolutely grown on me. I have bad experiences with the Theme Of Chao, but that's due to my distaste for Chao (sorry). Open Your Heart is a unanimous banger tho. It's been my favorite vocal theme since I've first heard it. The fact with the screwdriver is really interested, and all the other random tidbits of knowledge was pretty cool because I didn't know them. Overall, great stuff you got for this video! Big ups for this because Sonic Adventure, in my opinion, is some of the best music produced in the Sonic Lineage.
Just a heads up, there's another official remix of Open Your Heart, though you might call it a de-mix, and that's the 16-bit version from Sonic Pinball Party, pointing this out because that game had an absolutely massive impact on me as a kid and pretty much introduced me to listening to music on the go, which I still do to this day. The rest of the game's soundtrack is damn worth listening to as well, as it contains music from every single Sonic Team franchise up until that point including Burning Rangers!!
I didn't know that! Huh, I'll have to check that out, thanks for the recommendation...I always thought it was cool in the SA1 missions there is ads for Pinball party xD. Thanks for watching and the trivia, means alot :)
I feel like you understated how good of a drummer Ricky Wellman is. He's not a household name or anything but he played in Miles Davis' band for fuck's sake.
I AM A MACHINE! Just kidding lol, really appreicate the support as always Leo..means alot! That's awesome about you starting to make music I'd love to hear some if you put it online! Your gonna kill it dude :D
