@@hui8370 First that's what its ment to be a tongue and cheek song not taking itself to seriously. Second I was born in 1964. I grow up listening to music of 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's. IMO most of rock, pop, hip hop,and dance music sucks.
There isnt a band today that even comes close to how cool this is. Quirky, nerdy, creative, awesome. Music for those on the outside. At 13 years old in 1980, it was my indoctrination to teenhood. Actually got to meet the band a few years back. Thank God for the 80's!
Whenever this tune came on during a party as a teenager thruought the 80's? The entire mood would elevate to Epic levels, everyone dancing & smiling while feeling so free. This song was another great backdrop of some of the best times I ever had. This band was simply brilliant.
I needed that.. and you are so right. Just sitting alone listening to this I cranked up my little speaker and started dancing in my bedroom. That is how 80s music always made you feel.. GOOD and Fun and goofy and wanting to dance.. ! Music now does none of that.
Truly one of the greatest tunes ever. The B52s were way ahead of their time. I was only 8 when this song first came out but years later in August 2010 I was blessed to see them perform at the Coney Island bandshell (which sadly stopped putting in free concerts a year or 2 later). I was going through a rough period in my life and went by myself and when they played those, I danced like no one was watching - except for a friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in a year who happened to be standing right there watching in amazement. It was truly one of the best shows I had ever gone to and my spirits were truly lifted that night
Ricky Helton Wilson would have turned 68 today, born March 19, 1953. Ricky died from AIDS. It's truly sad that so many gifted, talented artist' lost their precious life to this rarely talked about past global epidemic that has claimed 32.7 million beautiful souls. We miss you Ricky.
@@wayneking9997 True, and anyone can also blow off trivia like it's nothing, too. But that's not at all what I'm doing here. Not everyone's going to go Google a band they're listening to casually.
I will never forget as long as I live walking Into our local little music store in the mall. And seeing this record and buying it note unheard Just based On how crazy and creative they looked on the cover. God bless these guys, thank you for the great times.
Never gets old! Nobody really gave these guys credit for their musical talents. They are tight as hell as a band and most don't realize how hard it is to be this in unison with one another. Like The Knack...awesome bands!
Are you like really young or something? They were HUGE back in the day. They were known all over the world! Why is it that kids these days feel the need to write their fictions as fact?
This is one of the most unique and fun rocking songs ever recorded on video! You can't help but smile watching and listening to them here. What a great performance!!!
What eighties energy and musical creativity, the B52 became the starting whistle for the start of a great night of teenage dance... greetings from 2023 Chiclayo-Peru
While his parts were often minimalist, it's not that which caught my attention. How his parts fit in so well, standing out yet also sort of in the background at the same time, and also his approach to strumming hard with thick picks and thick strings and weird interesting tunings and unusual guitar models, is what caught my attention.
Here’s yet another RU-vid commenter who thinks that calling someone or something, “underrated,” is an original thought. I’m calling for a total ban on the adjective, “underrated” as a description of anything!
Without doubt, the best party band EVAHHHH!!!! You had to be an Aussie teenager in 79 to realize how 'far out' the 52s were. They opened the door for new age and punk. The 52s led the way in breaking all societal and music industry rules on conformity. They did free form and disinhibition first. They tapped into a creative energy that none of their peers did. Maybe Jim Morrison, Hendrix, and Clapton got into the same realm. Everything that has followed has been derivative of that schism that slid civilization into disarray.
@Henry Emerich - I’m sure if anybody ever has the misfortune to start talking to you at a bar or party, they end up wanting to shove a pencil in their own eye. Take it down a few notches guy.
This played at just about every college party back in the day. One party I was at--the floor was so packed with people dancing to this song, you could feel the floor bouncing.
First time I heard this was getting drunk outside a big college party up the street as 15 year teenage guys wonder what is this music ? and then yeah - 4 years later at a Case Western frat house in Cleveland was just that - house pounding smashed drunk wild fun - girls and guys just pounding up and down at the end and the whole house shaking everybody rockin !
I have this record in my loft. Love it. Not sure my knees could cope with dancing to it now though but I used to go mad on the dance floor way back. It was fun and made us all smile. Fantastic.
@@voidbling4968 Last minute? Ricky and Keith played music since they were teenagers in the late 60s, early 70s. Kate wanted to be a singer since she was a kid, Fred was Fred (he wrote what ended up being some B-52s lyrics and had a degree in forestry) and Cindy was kinda along for the ride since Ricky was her big brother.
@@voidbling4968 Learn your lessons son, do your homework before you talk, they all were seasoned musicians, except Fred, but he was hilarious as a songwriter.
I wish I had been a teen in the late 70's/early 80's instead of the mid 00's. Feels like I missed out on something great by being born 20 years too late. At least it's easier to discover cool music today since it's all there to be discovered if one bothers to look beyond what's "most popular".
Yup, you missed it. Thankfully we have You Tube to relive these great songs. "Rock Lobster" was one song out of thousands that graced the charts in the 70's and 80's. Being 13 in 1980, this song was one of the BEST!
Brings back my freshman in college days in 1980. College radio stations were the go to for new music & breaking new bands like The B-52's, Talking Heads, R.E.M., XTC, etc.
I have to say that this performance is even better than the official music video for the song. Just everything about the performance was creative, beautiful art.
I feel so lucky and so fortunate to have grown up during this Renaissance period full of life art music and beauty. It's just so sad that it's all coming to an end.
Man take me back to the 80s when I was starting high school and this came out. Never heard anything like it then or since. So unique. So many good times partying with this in the background.
Acaso soy el único tonto que recuerda cuando en nickelodeon pasaban esta canción para anunciar a los nicktoons? Esta canción es grandiosa! Un hito en la historia del rock and roll.
We were at a party His earlobe fell in the deep Someone reached in and grabbed it It was a rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster We were at the beach Everybody had matching towels Somebody went under a dock And there they saw a rock It wasn't a rock It was a rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster Motion in the ocean His air hose broke Lots of trouble Lots of bubble He was in a jam S'in a giant clam Rock rock Rock lobster Down, down Lobster rock Lobster rock Let's rock! Boy's in bikinis Girls in surfboards Everybody's rockin' Everybody's fruggin' Twistin' 'round the fire Havin' fun Bakin' potatoes Bakin' in the sun Put on your noseguard Put on the Lifeguard Pass the tanning butter Here comes a stingray There goes a manta-ray In walked a jelly fish There goes a dog-fish Chased by a cat-fish In flew a sea robin Watch out for that piranha There goes a narwhal Here comes a bikini whale! Rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster Rock lobster
I played this song on my headphones during an IV session - my bad doctor found out about this and said I was manic and needed to be placed on meds. Please vote below.
I remember when the B52s appeared on Saturday Night Live. I was delivering pizzas at Miami University, to a girls dorm. While I waiting for the girl to come down for her Pizza I was watching the B52s perform Rock Lobster on the TV in the lounge. There were some girls there, they looked like sorority girls, and when the song reached the part where the band dropped to the floor and started flopping around, these girls all went "Ewwww!" It's one of my fondest memories.
La escuche y bailé en el año 82 y todavía me parece lo máximo. Los sonidos son sicodélicos, Fred Schneider super cantante con un histrionismo único. La guitarra de Ricky Wilson excelente.
