In this episode Mr. Jeremy from MyGym Yorba Linda tells us a story from when he coached youth baseball. He had a great idea to make his youth sports team better. He would split the teams into 'A' and 'B' teams so that more kids could get playing time. That did not go over so well with the parents. They were upset that their kids weren’t on the A team even though their kids got more opportunities to play, compete, and develop on the B team.

As a parent early on when my oldest was playing I had a good friend tell me B team is the best just wait. He was right B team is where your kid really grows especially when they are on the border line between the two.

Absolutely, especially when you have a coach willing to work with the kids, they get to play such a bigger role in the game.

This is a very good topic. We with our daughter went through all of the stages. And you are so right. The coach really makes difference. Luckily enough nowadays she plays so well that I can back off relax and enjoy the game. But I do feel sorry for the other parents whose kid doesn’t get a shot in games. And now there is one coach which I admire but in other hand there are lots of parents that really hate him at the same time.

I wonder why those parents hate him, are they not seeing what you admire?

The parents always want their child play. In case of our club there is not much training games and when the children play it is usually a game where result matters national league or some international tournament. So this one coach lets play the best players to get results and when it is a close game the second row players might play not at all. The parents of children in second row are disappointed and do not like the coach.
