Holy shit there's so many people in the comments here that don't get the movie's plot. The Babadook is a representation of her grief and misery following the death of her husband. That's why she keeps having flash backs of him dying in the car accident. The grief is trying to convince her to kill the boy and herself to be free of the pain, and she must learn to accept and deal with her pain in order to win. You can't get rid of the Babadook because you can't get rid of grief, but you can learn to live with it.

excatly psycologicals thrillers are like that!!!! its not for the viewers who just want to watch something just to be scared and thats all(and i dont mean it in bad way,they just like other type of thrillers!!!) psycological thrillers stay and creep you out its deeper!!!! personally i like psycological thrillers more because i get to enjoy the acting more!!!! In this case i really loved it, after glenn close i never thought i would find an other actress that would creep me out like that!!!!!

@@William_Brando The claws out part is the only thing that ruined it for me though, because then it just makes it into a jump scare. If it was just the shadowy figure approaching and her reaction with the music and running away, I would have honestly turned the movie off out of fear. But it kinda makes it just another horror movie scene. Still a great film though, just wish this scene was pulled off differently, because it’s one of the best.

With the mother’s increasing depression, impatience and irritability with her son, that somehow summoned the dad to come back, albeit a sinister spirit. And he eventually ended up in the basement where all the dad’s things were.

Fuck this scene is a proof horror movie can make you shit bricks without even a ridiculous ghost face makeover on cheap jumpscare nowadays.And i like how Essie Davis give a really genuine reaction over having a very deep fear and anxietyuntil you can't even walk.I still had no idea why is this movie isn't a best picture yet or why essie davis isn't a receive her oscar.Well,i guess they don't need it :D

Honestly hearing that stock sound effect almost completely ruined the impact of the scene for me, because it was so recognizable. Everything else about the movie is great but they had to use that sound effect? They could have made up basically any sort of demonic/unnatural scream sound on their own and it would be more effective.

Her pupils getting so big was prolly a way to not only shown she was possessed but to show she's manic. having a manic attack causes your pupils to become big af and you become all hyperactive and unpredictable
