@@WarrinerAnimations The Empire just almost across the board went like "you know all that really functional stuff we had made during the Clone War? replace it with less effective but SCARIER LOOKING stuff" lol.
Okay, this vehicle can go 160 kph, accelerate quite fast, and can apparently jump it's own height, gain some decent air, and has the suspension to handle the landing like a champ without breaking... this thing is awesome.
This actually might be one of the only times a juggernaut tank was scene in action. I can only recall one time in the clone wars on felucia and that one scene in episode III (And maybe if you count rogue one then also that too)
@@WolfeSaber9933I think they did already with all those recent upgrade but in the end it wasn't really that effective when it comes to swarm attack well at least it's what's written on paper, they call it the "last defense" for a reason.
The tanks were originally called juggernauts but got their new turbo tank name after Lego tried to make sets out of them, and disney/marvel threatened to sue because they (stupidly) thought it was a reference to marvel's juggernaut.
0:32 How come we don't see more CRAM/CIWS style weapons in Star Wars? That single turret took out most of the missiles, which is really impressive considering how many of them there were and how little time it had to react.
Probably because of shielding being common thing so they'll tank it with the shield. And beside a few rare cases, (Cat and Mouse, Destruction of the Malevolence come to mind) we don't see munitions be used. Also note that Cat and Mouse, they just tank the missile with the thermal shielding.
@@rafaelnishizumi6330 What about proton torpedoes? We see a bunch of proton torpedoes fired from Y-wings disable an ISD during the Battle of Scarif, wouldn't a CIWS-style weapon designed for use on capital ships take down some or all of them (potentially saving the ship)?
@@purplfedora800 Those were Ion Torpedos ment for disabling, not Proton Torpedo. Plus with what the Remnants of Blue Squadron did prior to the Tie Counterattack and y-wing run, they must had severely damaged the Shielding. However, it wasn't just 1 or 2 Ion Torpedos, it was quite abit that was required to bust the shield then disabling the ISD. Though yeah point a CWIS would had gotten those bombers but Canon ISD Armaments have no Laser Cannons listed, which are ideal against fighters. Legends ISD 1 had 40 Laser Canons listed but that's Legends.
They would if they wernt going for more intimidation and policing. Plus walkers can go over most obstacles versus wheeled or tracked vehicles. But the advantage of Juggs over a ATAT is speed and modularity
@@pitied3744 Fun fact though, modern day researchers have found that wheeled vehicles tend to be better at all terrain than “walking” vehicles. In particular rough and irregular terrain, wheels and tracks have always performed better than “legs” because legged vehicles and robots tend to slip and lose their footing while wheeled vehicles always provide a significantly more stable base. So in truth the Juggernaut would actually unironically serve as a better all terrain armored transport than the actual AT-AT.
@@hfar_in_the_sky The US Army even tried to test walking tanks by taking inspiration from moose. One example of terrain they'd use is a river, and assumed the moose would walk through the river. To their disappointment, they found out that the moose would rather walk around the river and find a better way.
@@Memelord1117 Oh Tarkin. You with your obsession with cool and intimidating yet highly impractical war machines you. “What purpose could Venerator class SDs be in an era where affordable hybrid fleet carriers would be more useful for power projection and peacekeeping than ever? We need to build more Imperial class SDs! Because clearly the decade a half of asymmetric warfare that we’ve been fighting has clearly shown we need bigger and stronger capital ships! To fight all the nonexistent enemy capital ships you see! Surely this ‘all your eggs in one basket’ tactic won’t literally blow up in my face! I am brilliant!”
@@Alex-es9jt the juggernaut had more arsenal in my opinion. and they were losing even with the at te. with the juggernaut they have the speed advantage.
The AT-TE facing its technical successor was more poetic though. I thought the same thing back when I first saw those Rebels episodes but I think seeing a Jugg face an AT-AT would've taken away the emotional impact of it because they're not necessarily comparable vehicles on the battlefield and they would've won. Also, this is the first piece of SW media (even ROTS) that does a Jugg justice.
@@mysterycliff6045 They weren't losing lol, everyone references this episode but no one seems to have actually watched it. Rex and his homies had plot armor + a crew with 2 jedi to rescue them
This is the most epic SW vehicle barring starships/starfighters man. Saw one of these being watched by Yoda in the live action movies when I was a kid, didn't even know what they were called then. They barely make any appearance in action anywhere.
In Empire at War Forces of Corruption, another variant of juggernaut possessed point-laser defense to counter missiles. And I wonder why the TK's juggernaut could not use CIWS as well? I guess they are beginners and did not know how to use it while clones who are veteran were very familiar with it.
Seems like they were surprised when the other Juggernaut came rolling out of the smoke with missiles firing, causing them to panic. Also they've closed to distance substantially when the second pair of missiles fired.
Sad they didn't go with the A6 model... But suppose it also makes sense. The A9 is often used as prisoner transport after all... Where as the A6 is just pure warfare.
Man this episode did the Jugg so much justice. The only reason the Bad Batch could break into one was because they happened to be ex-special forces who studied every Imperial vehicle (Tech). These things are scary as hell (and awesome) and holy did they emphasize it.
Is the first time we have a Juggernauts weapons in use for the first time since Revenge of the sith? I don't remember seeing a Juggernauts weapons in use during the Clone Wars
Maintenance. As powerful as the juggernaut is, it would be a one-use weapon. Requires a lot of hands to operate, and a hell of a lot more to repair and maintain. Resources the Rebel could not expense.
1) its got tinny weapons, as shown in hoth the AT-AT is basically invulernable even in the leg joints to weapons of that size. 2) as shown here the juggernaut is extremely vulnerable in the wheels (unlike the AT-AT with its legs, once again shown in hoth) 3) its big, meaning it needs a really be transport, and a massive supply chain. which rebels don't have in spades.
The writing answer is that they weren't conceived in the 80s and walkers were a lot easier to do stop-motion animation on back then (I think that's how they did it in ESB). The in-universe answer is probably that they were too expensive to mass-produce compared to walkers for large military campaigns due to the Tarkin doctrine. So they were used primarily for prisoner transport like in Rogue One. Usually, they would be hard to penetrate, the only reason the BB succeeded was because they were ex-special forces who also happened to study every vehicle in the Imperial lineup (Tech).
In another universe these could have been on Hoth. What ended up becoming the Juggernaut was one of the original concepts for the vehicle that would become the AT-AT
they didn't the empire still uses juggernauts. see for example rogue 1. the AT-AT is just seen as superior for front line combat. the lore is inconistant on why
a group of engineers serving the empire sitting at a table: "the wheels are a weak point, how do we fix it?" "we could make it a repulsorcraft?" "No, too expensive. Other ideas?" "we could give it tracks?" "for the last time Jerry, tracks are the WORST option." "what about giving it legs?" "oh i like it low to the ground, fast if you give it enough lets-" "no no fuck all that give it 4 giant spindle ones with mor moving parts than the rest of the vehicle combined." "i didnt believe it was possible but that is worse than Jerry's idea." "Grand Moff Tarkin liked it when i suggested it to him." "Say less, we're going with the legs."
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed of that vehicle despite the action scenes like in revenge of the Sith, but man! The Bad Batch gets all the fun, eh?😅
I'm sorry but this vehicle, no matter how much i love it, has nothing to do in the Star Wars univers : It drives on weels (who does that in SW ?!), fire missiles, and has an machine gun turret. 3 of the things you barely ever see in star wars, on the same vehicle. Like what are they going with next ?? Long-range cruise missiles ? Fire-weapons ?! Mortars ?!
Seriously? The wheels? The freaking wheels? The exposed, ground-level giant circles causes catastrophic structural failure? How did this thing even stay in service during the Clone Wars?
