The line "I hear the anguish in the streets" is intresting to me because a human head can live for up to 30 seconds before dying which means that she probly heard some of the commotion to the cyclone accident
The idea that if we can’t be identified by the living we have no identity when we’re dead is fascinating. Or maybe it’s because she just doesn’t have a head so she lost herself.
Both just not being identified and losing your head being parts of not known who you are in the afterlife if there is an afterlife are both good thoughts and honestly very interesting thoughts
I don’t know if y’all know how absolutely mangled a body has to be to be completely unrecognizable like no finger prints no birth marks no dental records all to say poor girl
Spoilers ahead, but iirc Jane Doe is actually a character from another musical by the same author, and her real name is Penny I believe? She and her brother just got out of a cult, and her parents are in jail, and that's why there's no one to claim the body
Dental records mean someone has to have received dental care. Fingerprints also aren’t very common either. DNA can be used (well, post 1990’s at least) but you still have to have SOME nearby match in the system somewhere.
In the original musical, the character,Jane Doe, uses a doll head as her head because the original got cut off and went missing in a rollercoaster accident. The black eyes are actually doll eyes on the original character. The artist is staying true to the character design. Your idea is beautiful, though.
I love the Greek reference from the lyric “Time eats all his children in the end” kinda like how Kronos the titan of time ate all his children except Zeus and I just realized that her name is Jane doe because her head was gone and since she had no head there was no way to identify her after death meaning she is a Jane doe
WAIT! I'm OBSESSED with the part of her screaming and how it zooms out of her mouth as she gets louder and louder, the expressions and fluidity in that scene in particular is just SO satisfying to watch. ALSO ALSO her fall into not only a rollercoaster cyclone but a LITERAL STORM CYCLONE- I just can't believe you're the first person i've seen to use that concept/imagery and the way her headless body fell into it to be connected to the other version of her that was still falling from the rollercoaster AS A WAY TO TELL US HER ACTUAL SLOW AND PAINFUL PROCESS TO DEATH???? (ergo the fact that she most likely didn't die from impact, but rather she fell on the tracks and got sliced by the oncoming cart) CHEFS KISS peak storytelling right there... like this is actually cinema. good job.
This is a hell of a concept for an animation. This goes above and beyond, even if it's only an animatic. Thank you so much for this incredible piece and for sharing it with us
4:36 Virgil!!! Also I love animatics of this song so much. Love all the imagery and symbolism. Also initally at 0:56 i thought the dash/line was supposed to represent the cyclone cart, like the theory that she didn't immediately die upon impact and landed on the track only to have her head cut off by the rollar coaster. This also works well with the fan (ok its mostly me) theory that she died last, its mostly based off of the og FFS choreography + lyrics sung (basically: Ocean and Constance sit at the front of the cart and start singing first when they realize something is off, so they probably died first. Then Noel and Mischa are behind them and sing after, they also has a waltz so they may have been clinging to each other during the fall. Then after we hear Jane's sing screams which a mute Ricky alone notices, then Ricky finally starts to sing with the choir signifying he's joined the afterlife. Then we finally see Jane in in the afterlife, but only after everyone else has arrived). Anyway great video!
I like 4:36 as well because of the appearance (I like it when he shows up in animatics I don’t fully know why). I also like the fact that the fact that he was so entranced by Jane he stoped chewing.
Yeah that makes a ton of sense cause I was always wondering, "how does your head fall off during a rollercoaster" Jane seriously had a heart breaking demise
The part where it phased Jane Does open mouth with that of the carousel horse OMG. And the water ripple and the thumbnail!!!! Whoever you are, I’m so proud of you. You just made a really neat thing. You did a great job :)
i’ve seen animations of “The ballad of Jane Doe” and others musical songs but this took the whole podium and THE crown. You animated everything perfectly, according to the “tale” behind the song. Kudos ❤
@@jeniferesparza7770in the musical she carries a headless doll and she looks like a doll because she’s used the dolls head to replace hers since her own head was never found
@@jeniferesparza7770i’m pretty sure she landed on a track piece before she died, which then the cart ran over her head, beheading her, and making her head destroyed
I have no idea what this musical is even about but your video was recommended to me and you've already got me hooked! This is soooo good! the song is phenomenal and your animation is super cool! I love all of it!
If you haven't gone and found the musical, it's about a show choir group who went to an amusement park. The rollercoaster (the titular cyclone) breaks and they all die. Jane Doe is decapitated and no one really knows who she is. They then get placed in a in-between place where the fortune teller machine tells them that one of them will get to live and they will have a contest. I won't spoil it but I recommend it
@jessicawashington3987 awesome! Thanks so much! I did look up what it was about but I've still only listened to this song. I havent had a chance to watch the whole show yet.
This is literally the most attractive art style i have EVER seen and THE BEST concept anyone has used for this song... The imagery, the storytelling, the consistency, the rendering, the smoothness of each animation, EVERYTHING! THIS! IS! EVERYTHING! I say this with each new animatic I've found of this song, but truly this is the best one yet and its going straight to my favorites. I think that also says a lot though about the ambition anyone has to have to actually make an animatic for this song, because truly 5 minutes of operatic singing requires visuals just as engaging and it is NOT for the weak! Your hard work is duly noted and appreciated here and i'm in awe of the amount of talent!! But in any case you somehow missed my point already, WELL DONE!! YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB!!! 👏👏👏👏
If yall want to sing along and don’t know the lyrics yet here you go Some might say we're released Pushing daisies, deceased But we all know the worms must be fed There's just one lingering fear Oh my soul, is it here? Or is it rotting somewhere with my head? Oh my soul Oh my soul Oh my soul Oh my soul Ooh... Ooh... Ahh... Ahh... ah Oh no soul, and no name And no story, what a shame Cruel existence was only a sham? Oh Saint Peter, let me in! You must know where I've been Won't you tell me at last who I am? Who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am Ooh... Ooh... Ahh... Ahh... ah And from the ground, beneath my feet I hear the anguish of the street [Choir:] A choir never complete [Jane:] And like an old forgotten tune A song that no one knows... Forgot how it goes Just john and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe And I'm askin' why lord If this is how I die, lord Why be left with no family And no friends? [Choir:] Ooh [Jane:] I've got no celebration Just this consolation Time eats all his children In the end [Arpeggio riffing] Ahhh... A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? [Choir:] Does anyone care? [Jane:] Another sad, forgotten tune Another song that no one knows So that's how it goes! Just john and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe [Choir:] And she's asking "why, lord?" [Jane:] Why, oh why, oh why, oh why...? [Choir:] "This is no way to die, lord!" [Jane:] No one to sing, no one to sigh Now that all is said and done Isn't there anyone to tell me who I am? [Choir (Jane):] No singing songs of celebration (Ah ah ah ah) Just this sorry speculation (Aah ahh) [Jane:] Like john I'll be eternally A forgotten name, some lost refrain Just "Jane" Jane... Doe! [Choir:] A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? Jane Doe
This song is interesting to me because i heard the name of it before watching the slime tutorial. When i first heard of it, i thought it would be about a girl who doesn't know who she is and is trying to figure it out or a girl who no one really knows, kinda just a face you see every day, but you don't make an effort to know, and for both, i thought Jane Doe would be a symbol for a lack of identity, but the character's actual name throughout the play would be something completely different
I realized something when listening to the Ballad of Jane Doe. Could the line “A melody floats through the air. When silence falls, does no one care?” be referencing the choir’s or at least Jane’s deaths? A melody floats through the air, the choir falling. When silence falls, the choir dying. Does no one care, no cared enough to identify Jane. Idk, just a thought. Animatic’s incredible!
Bro this is madwicked awesome! Every shot is drawn so beautifully and I love hoe you drew the fall also, you never see that in animatics (to my knowledge) anyway this is truly incredible ❤❤❤
I had to pause this before the music started because I will genuinely start tweaking if I here an RTC song (I was unhealthy obsessed with this musical for a year) and I am not ready for that BUT I already know this age
First of all, I want to say this is a really beautiful animatic! Second I want to confess that I clicked on the video wondering if the character in the thumbnail was Rose Lalonde from Homestuck and Ride the Cyclone was the name of an AU I hadn't heard about before. My apologies, I may have some brainrot. But this is lovely, I want to rewatch it sometime when I'm more awake so I can analyze all the details Also want to look into this musical more later, I like the song in this video and the story seems really interesting
(SPOILERS!) There’s a theory that since Penny was the one brought back to life, her head was erased from existence to prevent a paradox. That way she didn’t both die and not die, instead she survived while ‘Jane Doe’ perished.
I import the song into clip studio paint and just go ham wild until I'm done. Parts that I know I really want to animate have thumbnails in my sketchbook but a majority of it is decided when it's time to fill that space in a song
I believe this is a post-death song. The singer was decapitated, and doesn't remember who she was before she died. The name 'Jane Doe' is a default name given to unidentified corpses
It's from the musical Ride The Cyclone, where six choir kids on a field trip die in a freak rollercoaster accident and end up in limbo. An entity with the appearance of a fortune teller machine tells them he can bring one of them back to life but they must vote who. All the songs are about the kids making their case. Jane Doe is the last to do so. She was decapitated during the accident and her head was not found. Despite her wearing the same school uniform, no one knew who she was- not even the choir director/trip chaperon- thus the name. Without her head attached or a name, she has no memory and faces an afterlife forever lost, confused, and alone.
