This song is a banger. I think it deftly captures the mood and legacy of John Daker. How many of us have found ourselves in a similar situation where we’re clearly in over our heads?
I watched a video before this about man’s quest for meaning and heroic greatness. The boys and young men who aspire to be Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne won’t understand for a long time yet how someone like John can be so loved. They won’t understand how he can be a great man and human just by showing up on the right day and being authentic, vulnerable and imperfect. Few of us will ever know what it’s like to be great, but we all know what it’s like to be John.
Man, I really love this song, well done!! What a beautiful tribute to a humble soul. Somehow we all could learn from John Daker, rest in peace. Thanks for writing and sharing this song, Brandon, it's awesome.
The real John didn't mind his recognition a bit. Someone encountered him in a car repair place in his hometown and played his legendary performance on a laptop while recording John's reaction on an iphone. This was about 2010. John smiled and lip synched his performance. He happened to be holding a soft drink from a vending machine and he hoisted it like a wine bottle at the final crescendo of Amore. The person filming asked him how he felt about his fans and he said he like them fine. The vid may be online somewhere.
