I mean, I'd doubt that her dad would be very happy that she killed those girls. they're rich, right? they'd lose public support for sure. bit of a PR scandal there.
I feel so bad for Julie Jenkins. Like, she just lost her leg in a situation that can be pretty traumatic even if you aren't physically affected by it. Then people start trying to get her made Prom Queen which she may not have even wanted (some kids are shy and hate that kind of attention). Then on Prom Night, she watches 7 of her peers get violently killed. Like, Julie is having a bad year.
agreed, I've seen people trying to make Julie the bad guy, even though she never asked to be prom queen and anyone couldn't help on feeling flattered by the idea of being prom queen, though we might never know if she liked it or not. still, poor Julie
@@nicoleflores2054 But even if she wanted to be the queen, who cares? The role it wasn't "rightful of Sarah". Too many people behaving like "the rival" is authomatically the bad guy.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Eunice tried to fight back. It shows her swinging on Sara for just a moment and that's amazing for her. It's so hard not to just break down and for a good solid minute she decided she was going to try and fight off Sara and stop her from hurting anyone else. Like yeah, Julie called the cops, but Eunice died confronting Sara.
The best/worst part of it is, Eunice fighting back might be all that saved Julie. If she fought back long/hard enough to knock Sarah’s teeth out, she’s probably what gave Julie the time she needed to get out of there and call the police. Especially since she seems to have been the last victim before Sarah would have moved on to Julie.
This feels wrong to say, but I do appreciate that you chose to show and somewhat animate the murders. I've seen a lot of other people just superimpose the injuries over static images or use similar effects to imply the action. It's an effective artistic choice, but personally, I feel it's been overused. The fact that you chose to show as much as you did makes yours unique and a bit more visceral, which I think works well with subject matter.
It DOES feel wrong to say, but I also agree that i didnt cover most of the murder scenes cuz I think Im too lazy to hide most of it snd just went straightforward with it, In fact I didnt even notice most animatics had it censored 😓. And Thank you for the support!!
It helps to drive home the horror of the situation rather than just "spooky effects ooo" (which don't get me wrong, they can be done well but it's refreshing to see something different.)
I also love how you handled Julie. I’m tryna work on an animatic for this and I’m tryna make her more integral- like. I’m making a scene where she’s actually giving Sara the crown at the end to try and appease her
I like how in the beginning, you had that unspoken background plot of Sara's boyfriend and Julie becoming close. That puts a lot into perspective when he later tells her that Julie's the one he's taking to prom. It helps that line make more sense once it's said. I love this! Thank you.
I feel bad for Sara man. Like she was clearly already a bit upset at the idea of not getting it, but then her dad was like "Yeah you're dead to me of you don't become prom queen" which pushed her over the edge. Also oof, at least her friends tried to reach her, but her boyfriend didn't give a shit.
I love how when Sara crowns herself prom queen, we see first the actual, insane, bloody her, then a happier, sane Sara that could’ve been had her parents not been so terrible.
4:22 I loved seeing the reactions of her classmates! Their faces really drove home the horror of one of seeing the most popular girls in school snapping and suddenly acting like this, great job!
i didnt qwant to keep drawing julie again and again so i just drew her friends bcs they kinda lack screentime, and i also wanted to show not only julie and the 6 victims were horrified of her insanity.
The way that Sara didn't even care about Julie until her dad dangled his and his wife's love infront of her the idea of her head, sure she was mad about the rumor but if her dad didn't say that then Sara would've JUST been annoyed. I feel like if Sara hadn't been so obsessed with prom they could've been friends :(
I really love the scene at 3:33 where Sara's trailing her bloody fingers over the lockers while she's looking for Julie. I can really just picture her walking down the halls stalking her "competition." Lol honestly a lot of it reminded me of Ruby Lane from Fear Street. Very horror-slasher filmesque style, i love it and the art is goregous 😁
The way the deaths were executed though, detailed gore right there but how Sara Berry looked while doing all of these actions was pretty terrifying. this animatic rocks!!
I love the way you've done the environments Idk if it was your intention but the placement of them within the song emphasizes how lonely she is even from the beginning. A lot of the "positives" about her were hella superficial so she wasnt gonna win even without Julie's accident. Edit bc I've rewatched a few times: meant to say the use of space, both in the drawn backgrounds and the empty ones. Its apparent in the crowded close up scenes that Sara's only really got her friends, everyone is drawn in detail which kinda others her. Shes not as special as she thinks she is, shes just like everyone else. When her friends leave her she's on her own completely Julie's crowds are majority faceless because shes Important, special, the center of attention, all the things Sara wishes she was. The only time Sara gets to be Important is when she was making a scene midway through the song, but it's not because of any admiration or care (like Julie gets) its bc she's scaring people
The transition at 4:09 is probably my favorite part, cutting between her delusion of being loved and celebrated as promp queen by her adoring classmates and the reality of her "audience" being officers pointing guns at her while she's soaked in her victims' blood, all emphasized by the sudden introduction of haunting blue and red police flashers. It was very chilling but incredibly smoothly done, and the stark contrast really encapsulates her character by that point in my mind. And the way it works with the timing and tempo of the music, where the beautiful delusion is the musical build up and reality is the verse's climax, is incredibly satisfying.
3:04 I love the way you drew Sara entering the venue here, all confident and grin, and the way she swings the croquet bat on her shoulder - implying her work has begun is terrific execution. I'm absolutely obsessed with this!
Call me crazy, but it’s was really cool seeing the murders happening. Most animatics I’ve seen only show the aftermath, or show it in silhouettes. But seeing it actually go down, as well as all the reactions at the end was cool. I think that transition from Sara celebrating her “victory” in winning the crown, and the cops arresting her was interesting. The way you showed her getting more insane little by little was perfect, and you could clearly see the madness in her eyes, despite it being just an animatic. Amazing work, keep it up! Sorry if that all sounded like a psycho
i really like the moment at 3:33 when sara's dragging her bloody hand across the lockers, it puts it into perspective that these are familiar places and the people thats shes murdering shes probably walked the same halls with them maybe even daily also the desperation in her face when they take her crown away is so well done
I loved it, it so good. Specially the "fantasy like scenes" like the beggining with the Ballad of Sara Berry poster and when Sara was running towards the crown. Also great work with the expresions too, when Sara is having her breakdown you can feel the raw emotion. Just good work in general, wonderful animatic.
This is probably my favorite animation of this song! It feels like there's so much more story to it than we got with the original song! I also love how we get to actually see the reactions of the students and the aftermath because most animations paint it as if it's an empty school. It was neat seeing the chaos when she got arrested as it would have happened. Kids screaming, running, panicing, panicking, and inevitably recording the arrest to post on social media. It's really well done! Which brings me to my favorite part. In the animatics I've seen, Sarah gets arrested with a smile on her face the whole time to display her mental instability, like she has no clue she's getting arrested. While I find that chilling and awesome, I LOVE, absolutely adore how you did it. You showed Sara pissed that she was getting arrested and I loved that way of showing that she's still lost in her own delusions. I can just HEAR her going "What are you doing? I'm am the QUEEN. LET ME GO! GIVE ME BACK MY CROWN!" Like, she's aware of what's happening but is so lost in her delusions of grandeur she's still aloof and indignant because she's the queen. Up until she's hauled away. At least, that's how I interpreted it. Maybe I'm wrong but that doesn't change the amazing work you did here. Well done! You've definitely got my sub! Also 10/10 end card. Love it!
Aww!! Thank you so much for enjoying ny animatic!! I really wanted to put more personality and impact on the school and students to make it more impactful and I like adding details. Thank you so much for enjoying my animatic these kinds of comments mean so much! 🥰
I’ve been listening to this song like non-stop and this animatic is stunning! I thought the choice to portray Sara’s friends as trying to reach her was really cool bc I’ve not seen that done before (Also I love ur end card!)
A 35mm animatic in this day and age? Truly a blessing I love your attention to detail, especially on what's happening on the background. My fav part is posibly when you showed Sarah actually lashing out in public, i never seen it before and i think it's really smart. And also the end doodle of Sarah? Gold.
This is a great animatic! I love the small details of Sara just being annoyed by the rumors until her parents used their 'love' and made her feel like she had to be prom queen, and I feel like that just adds so much more depth to the story too. You obviously spent a lot of hard work on this and it shows, awesome job!
I'm in love with the expressions, they are so good! Also, the action, yes the murders too, is shown so well, I really enjoyed this animatic. Her getting worse mentally like 1:05, 1:40 or 1:43 are some of my favorite moments. 3:23 Terrifying. But considering that was the intention, it's cool. 4:25 The transition here is very neat too
It's nice to meet another fan of 35mm, though I feel a little concerned given the description and maybe suggest trying the Transitions or shorter songs to avoid going through the same thing again. (Definitely stay away from Leave Luanne.) 😱😰😰
I dont plan making Leave Luanne cuz it's story makes me uncomfortable, but I do like the story. Thanks for watching my video! I really appreciate it. And I tend to put a lot of effort to my art even if it harms me because I would love to see the results, but from now on I'm trying to maintain my health while making art hahaha.
@@Valrayishere_ I know that feeling, although this song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DsvAkpPUig4.html I found to be more disturbing then Sara Berry and Crazytown, one of the few songs I'm glad no one made an animatic of. Also don't about this being compared to someone else's animatic, because the main issue really is how straight forward The Ballad of Sara Berry story is, with the setting, progression and outcome that there's bound to be similarities, so you Shouldn't be blamed for plagiarism.
@@TheSpectator7 theres a commentary track type thing for the whole musical on spotify & that song is about how queer kids were/are disowned & kicked out. Theres no music bc it's meant to sound like that screaming in the middle of the night. Its genuinely haunting and theres not a lot you can do with it animatic-wise which I guess is why ppl dont use it. It hits far too close to home ti get fictionalised. Tbh I want to see an animatic of The Seraph or Twisted Teeth bc theres wiggle room to work with & they dont get a lot of love as love songs
@@jojoslameerrand9305 Okay that's kinda lame cause that's Far from what I was expecting, because I thought this song was something you could put in Carrie the movie/musical, with how disturbing and dysfunctional the Mother and Daughter relationship is in that setting. Really this whole musical is just about a display of pictures which are made to be left to interpretation, and the musical itself acknowledges that art is subjective (despite *Leave Luanne* and *Sara Berry* leaving little to none). Not to mention that most people think this musical is very dark so in my head I was imagining the worse case scenario. Nothing about *Mama, Let me in* mentions what sin is committed so in my mind the singer had done something horrible that IS considered a sin universally like if they were a Junkie, committed Patricide/murder, or (and this one what disturbed me) was incestuous towards his mother hence the heavenly choir(in the case of the former two it's a cry begging for forgiveness). Lastly there's no mention of exactly where they want to be Let Into so I imagine they were screaming to be let in said Mother's bedroom, or, like in Heathers, to be let in closet because the mother was in hiding in fear/shame for what's happening. My point being that you don't have to follow the commentary or go that route since this song is vague enough for anyone to imagine a different outcome? And if you don't believe me, then watch this and tell me this was ever what the musical had in mind with *Make me happy* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AZXkj4fxMF0.html
I love how you made Sara’s friends genuinely concerned for her. A lot of people write them as fake, but here they continued to reach out to her as she pushed them away and were upset by what happened to her. Here they were really the only people who genuinely cared about her.
P - Patricia drinking poisoned punch R - Raquel dashed on a rock, Crunch! O - is what Anne said when Sara bludgeoned her brains M - Marianna’s marinated remains Q - Quiara quiet, drowned in the pool U - Eunice’s pieces spread round the school E’s - (both e’s in queen) easy ones at 5 mins tops N - End by calling the cops Am I just dumb for not getting this or was this generally unnoticed
Eunice trying to take down Sara (with a bat?) is a really great image, her design also looks a bit more athletic so looks like she could be on the softball/baseball team. I like the idea that she did that to let the other kids get out of the gym before Sara got there, because I doubt someone in Sara's state of mind would actually stop with just the other girls on the list for queen.
maybe, but she also may have found anyone who wasn't one of her contenders as the people she needed to accept her as queen. they may have been safe as long as they didn't get in her way.
You know, for all intents and purposes, this song is about a spoiled girl (and her awful family) throwing a tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants. But your animatic adds some extra layers of emotion and interest to the story! You're very underrated, definitely subscribing now 💖
1:30 i don't know why but seeing these takes of Julie and Sara Berry's boyfriend getting along is quite interesting, I'm going to assume that it's the moment when he starts to like her and decides to invite her, right?? :oo
I really appreciate that you showed people running away panicking and Eunice trying to take down Sarah, even though she didn’t succeed it was nice seeing that the girls weren’t just getting killed silently. Your characters had diverse reactions, it felt more realistic and terrifying !
THIS IS SUCH A GORGEOUS ANIMATIC, HOLY CRAP- WOW!! EVERY SCENE IS EITHER HAUNTINGLY RAW AND REALISTIC, OR INSANELLY CINEMATIC AND PRETTY, OR BOTH- I LOVE THIS!
THIS WAS SO GOOD AND PLEASING TO WATCH THE ANIMATIONS WERE ON POINT AND THE BODY LANGUAGE WAS FLAWLESS (though the end result was perfect you shoudn't push your limits, sorry for your loss)
I've seen possibly every single animatic for this song and this one's easily my favorite. Your style, the panels you drew, the way you told the story and portrayed every aspect of the song was amazing. It literally sent chills down my spine and I truly felt you did an amazing job with this. The desperation in Sara's face as she makes her choices as the song goes along and how she loses her sanity by the end is done so great. Your facial expressions and body language is unlike any other I've seen and I can't stop watching. You made everyone an actual character instead of faceless silhouettes and it made for a more engaging story. This is just so well done, I love it.
omg im so happy you enjoyed my animatic, and yes i put so much effort into each character's design even if they only appear in 1 frame bcs i like drawing people and excercise my character designing and stuff
This song always makes me cry. I always feel bad for Sara because of the pressure that her father put on her that drove her to commit murder. It's also clear that Sara potentially had a deeper underlying mental issue. I just want to say I am NOT excusing her actions but I do pity her situation. I also think Julie did the right thing calling the cops and shouldn't be blamed for Sara's breakdown. All Sara's friends tried reaching out to her but Sara was fixated on winning prom queen. I'd honestly say that even if she won prom queen she probably would have snapped another time. I believe she was unstable but the prom was just her catalyst. All and all wonderful video.
Oh god, words can't express the adoration I have for the animatic you made. Especially with the way you visually described other scenes. I love how you really depicted their deaths, it makes it feel more of a prom rather than Sara just randomly murdering people around in an empty school. I think the way you portrayed them really showed their personalities which is an amazing skill. : )
Yes!! I decided to give the animatic feel more realistic, i gave most students their own appearances and quirks, I even had so much fun drawing the other girls and displaying their personality through their appearance and style Im so glad you enjoyed my animatic!
I feel so honored to be replied to skskaka You put a lot of work into your animatics and it shows, I'm really happy to have seen your animatic through my recommendations : )
this. was. GORGEOUS! definitely the best animation i’ve seen of this, in a messed up way i really liked the tears from her parents at the end. like they just now realized that they’re actions and treatment not only caused the murder of 6 girls BUT also sent their only daughter to a mental institution for the criminally insane. it’s really so messed up how her dad said those things to her, yeah she was pissed about the rumors but without his words, that’s all she would’ve been. just a pissed teen. yet here she is going insane because of it, to the point where she commits literal murder. thank you for coming to my tedtalk
def my fave sara berry animatic. I LOVEEE with how more deranged she gets u add more camera movements, you can like feel her anger it’s so cool. GOD EVERYTHIKG IN THIS IS SO COOL U DID A GREATJOB
I really didn't feel for her until seeing her 'delusion' in her head. Smiling real sweetly and looking so genuinely happy. Not mocking or smug, just sincerely joyful. Kinda sad. Like the real her's locked away in there, leaving a mindless monster outside.
goes to show that she genuinely felt she just had to have the title. it was less about her own personal superiority complex than the desperate need for her parents' approval.
I really appreciate the blur in certain scenes like when she's clearing the desk or throwing her phone!! It makes it more intense and you really get her increasing instability. I also love those cool perspectives with the pen/pin transition and then omg that bit at the end with her arms up for the cops. Love this animatic!!!!
I've watched pretty much every animatic of this song and I must say yours ranks among the best. So many small details and differences that really set it apart from the rest.
I love the quick flashes of Julie and Sara's boyfriend getting to know each other. I say though in Sara's situation we can only blame her parents. They brought her down so much that she completely lost it. But everything in the background of this video is absolutely amazing. Yours is the most creative Ballad Of Sara Berry I seen.
This animatic is so good, there were some things I didn't pick up in the lyrics until I saw how you illustrated it. The way Sara isolates and self sabotages herself due to her obsession makes a lot of sense here.
This just came into my recommendations without me having any idea what this is and I was absolutely enthralled not knowing what was going to happen. Your animation made me hooked and I loved watching Sara Berry's descent into madness. Keep it up!!!
I've heard this song so many times already but this animatic gave me chills!! I love the way you use editing effects to enhance the animatic style the movements and framing are so incredibly cinematic and dramatic and fit so well with the tone of the song
I love it so much! This animatic has made me obbessed with the song and I love the way it's protrayed. I've seen some over animatics on this song and although the art is good, it seems dull. But in this, the emotion and intented chaos is so well shown. Good work!
I've seen so many animatics of this song, but yours, by far, is my favorite. The style is consistent throughout. The way you animated the little details, not just the murders, but Sara handing out flyers. I especially love your use of blurred lines to convey motion. The scene of her angrily throwing her phone at the mirror was *chef kiss*.
That was incredible!! I LOVED the cinematography! The part with the pen, the friends and the texts. Her yelling in the hallway, the phone cracking the mirror, the glitching at the beginning, everything was glorious
I am probably being stupid, but i swear at 4:31 when the female singer sang 'pity the dead the queen of high school land', shes not saying pity the dead to US and then saras name, i am 100% CONVINCED the voice was begging *sara* to pity the dead, as in feel guilt or remorse for her actions because the only way she can truly help herself after the damage has already been done is to embrace what she did and realise how wrong it was and it was not the way to win prom queen. Did i just go FULLY in deph into this one line? yes. yes i did.
I’m sure this will get buried but I to put frankly this is the best damn ones I’ve seen. the amount of detail in poses and hands everything was just so well put together never seen one with this much effort. I can’t even imagine how long it took you, your poor hands please keep up the good work you are actually amazing.
I feel bad for Julie and Sara. Julie had a traumatic experience losing her leg then her peers were murdered. Sara's mind snapped due to her parents being assholes to her. Btw, love the animatic! It's so well done! I love that you can see Sara's descent into madness!
Oh my god I loved this!!! You did such a great job with all the moments in this and the character designs are on point and also you are probably the only person I've seen who didnt depict the second death as just "bludgeoning with a rock" Legit just wonderful job all around this was awesome
I have no words. This is so cool!!! I love your artstyle, it's so pretty but the way the scenes and everything was composed!!! OH MY GOD. it was like I was watching a whole short movie it was amazing. I'm in love with your work.
The saddest thing about this is that her parents, who are what? In their forties or fifties? Actually still cared about the dumb ass, superficial highschool popularity hierarchy bullshit that probably that doesn't actually exist, everyone just thinks it does, and stops being relevant the second you leave. I regret caring about it when I was an actual teenager. I can't imagine how pathetic someone must be to still care about it when their fucking fifty and the point of telling their child, who has only experienced roughly ten percent of their life, that the most important thing is to be the most popular person IN HIGHSCHOOL. That is just depressingly sad.
I like the idea of one of the girls being killed being the sister of Sara’s ex, or at least looking to be with the similar hair styles. Makes sense that she’d want to get back at him by striking where it hurts
Okay. This has got to be, hands down, the best animatic I've seen for this song. Each frame evokes so much emotion and shows just how fragile a teenager's sanity can be due to peer pressure and social expectations. This one shows just how easy it is for someone to snap due to society. Amazing job. I don't have words for how good this is.
YOOOO The transition from the bright tan color slowly turning into a more vibrant or darker red shade as Sara continues to turn more violent an mad? Gorgeous!!
This is amazing! First of all that fantastic art style. It's so clean and (I'm bad at describing this) expressive. The single frames alone already show us so much but then the amount of frames drawn is so impressive! It's so well animated. I love those screen shakes when she slams her door or that moment when she goes from somewhat obsessed to absolutely deranged. Also those changes in colour even though it's mainly purple and white perfectly show changes in mood and tone. And those backgrounds are so detailed, for example her room in the scene where she slams the door just looks like a normal room and when the father comes in the second time you can see prom dresses on the wall. I was honestly stunned when I first saw this. I watched a lot animatics of this particular song but I'm sure this is the best one.
First time I’ve heard this song. It’s so good! Love the animatic! The switches between how she sees herself and what she actually looks like are so interesting.
Amazing! I feel this animatic portrays the story very much on point! I usually finish animatics with a sense of "it was missing more frames here and there"' but in this case I felt you nailed it! Great work!!!
This gave me chills! I love the way you depicted the murders, it absolutely matches the energy the song has! I love horror and gore and you certainly captured this beautifully.
@@Valrayishere_ I need to know this game, I read too much murder mystery stuff and feel like it would interest me. Y’know not that I will start killing 6 of my friends pfff
This was excellently done, your art skills are amazing. I really liked how the backgrounds were drawn and the story aspect of it fits the music so well. I also like how you actually drew each character differently, giving them each a unique look. A lot of artist don't draw the background characters, amazing job
I’m not gonna lie, as a long time fan of 35mm, i’m glad to see it’s finally getting some recognition, even if it’s this song. It’s last for a reason. This animatic is by far one of the most creative ones i’ve seen and well made. Props to you.
I love this because you show it more as it was her father taking control and messing with her mind, her trying to make him proud- very horribly but still I like your take on it
Love that she killed them in the order of P R O M Q U E, when you look at the lyrics just shows how obsessed Sara was all because her father was a asshole.
I love the animation very much especially the blood smearing on the lockers, breaking the mirror, and poor Kiara drowning in the pool (also her reappearance afterwards). Also love the after credit Sara be chillin while talking about Julie as if she's just spilling irrelevant tea xDDD
I've watched several time and still got to say the way captured the expression and storyline was beautiful! The deaths scenes where done in a real brutal way because Sara Berry was insane at this point, damn this was great! Good job 💖
BRO I always saw this song in animatics but never listened to it because "it looked boring" but HOT DAMN u proved me wrong !!! This was so fcking good and I was jammin the whole way through 😭
I hope when they interview Sara, they take her to a psychiatrist, and realize that her parents caused her to go insane. The parents, at the very least should pay thousands of dollars to the victims family. This is such a tragic story. I hope Sara gets help and a lesser sentence.
OMG! This is it! I've been searching for an animation for this song that really fit just as I imagined. I've seen some good ones, but so far all of them had something in them that I thought should have been made differently, but this is perfect in my opinion. Thank you! You don't know how happy I am right now. You are so talented, I loved every single frame of this! And those dynamic angles...oh my...amazing! Sorry for the ramble and my English, I'm not a native speaker
