Respect to you for still being true to this team even while the team was in the depths of hell. Not even just 2018-21, but I started watching baseball in the early 2000s and remember them not being very good back then either.

Shoot you know nothing of pain just starting in the early 2000’s i was born in 81 we won a chip when I was in diapers and by the time I can really remember was the latter half of the 80’s then losing Eddie Murray and cal Sr’s firing the 0 and April losing streak which led into the why not years which was an amazing time but then we had the glen Davis trade which set us back but I loved gregg Olsons under rated hook and finally in the mid 90s when had a team that should of or at least could of won a title so many good and bad memories but I love them all the same … give me a squad full of joe Orsulaks I loved joe as a hard nosed player all I want them to do different is to bring the HTS Home Team Sports channel and theme song back that was my favorite channel and song as a kid

The Orioles being 1st in AL East is how GMs in every other league dream of how their rebuild will look like a few years down the line.
@showtimenick824
@showtimenick824 9 месяцев назад
Absolutely true. Of course drafting and developing your talent isn't easy either since there's no guarantee that even the most highly touted prospects will pan out and they need guidance too. The Yankees looked like they were on the right track with developing homegrown talent in 2016 and 17, but then they decided to hire a manager who'll just always pat everyone on the back instead of hold them accountable. There's far less risk in developing homegrown talent because it's way less expensive and it's how you get the team to grow together.

A good friend who lives in NY and a die hard Yankees fan, told me today “The Orioles have it this year. And the next. And the next. And the next”. To hear that from a lifelong Yankees fan says a lot.

That's very bold to predict considering no team has repeat as champions since the Yankees in 2000. I'm also a lifelong Yankees fan, which I'm sure I made very obvious in the video, the Orioles are definitely in a way better situation than the Yankees are. Mike Elias is 50 times the GM that Brian Cashman is.

They’ve drafted well for a while now. Everyone is big on Adley and Gunnar, as they should be, but Mullins, Mountcastle, and Hays are all key components of their success on the field and team identity.

Full disclosure…I’m an Orioles fan thru and thru; I bleed orange and purple (for the Ravens). Having said that, I read/hear a lot about how this rebuild is similar to what other clubs have done, most notably the aforementioned Astros, the Cubs and others. What makes the O’s rebuild so special and different, though, are two main things: first, they haven’t missed with their top draft picks. Think about how many (the majority) of top draft picks don’t end up panning out or take years to develop into average major leaguers. Elias’ picks have all pretty much hit, which is why you see them all contributing to this first place team as well as keeping the farm system top ranked for 5 consecutive years. Second is that the O’s have done this rebuild without spending on free agents. Sure, the Astros rebuild was great, but they spent a good bit of money on free agents to get there. Compare that to the O’s where veteran additions where mainly acquired via trade or waiver wire, with the rest being short-term free agent signings for relatively low cost. That’s what puts it above the rest in how this rebuild has come about. This core of the franchise is pretty much set for the next 5-10 years, with the majority of players under club control playing on their first major league contracts. That’s why when people say that their club should follow what the O’s are doing, it’s not as easy as one would think. It’s truly been a masterclass in scouting and financial savvy that built this O’s club and has set it up to potentially stay at the top of the league for years to come. Great video!

A lot of outsiders talk down on starting pitching and in the first half, that sentiment would be totally valid. But I’m the second half I would argue it’s been our most consistent phase of the game outside of defense. Bradish has looked like a cy young of late and GrACEon really turned it around after a month in AAA. Kremer had an amazing august, and even Cole Irvin has put together a good second half. Perhaps the biggest thing for our rotation is the return of John Means. Dude is amazing when healthy.
@showtimenick824
@showtimenick824 9 месяцев назад
Bradish for the whole season has really good numbers and you know I acknowledged Grayson Rodriguez's turnaround. I didn't mention being fixed in the minors but I'm well aware his 4.91 ERA at the time this video was made, now down to 4.53 did not tell the whole story. Kremer had a great August but 3 starts in September, he hasn't really gone the distance and his second start of the month was not good so saying he's had his ups and downs still stands. I don't know about John Means being amazing. He wasn't bad his rookie year but definitely didn't look like an ace.

@@showtimenick824 The O's would probably rather let Cowser and Kjerstad get the outfield reps than Hicks. Neither were ready this year when Mullins got hurt. Hicks just happened to get released the same day Mullins went on the IL, so they gave him a shot and it worked out.

Aaron Hicks is a veteran team and coming from a Yankees fan who hated his guts the last couple years, I can see Hicks has been a lot more loose since his change of scenery. What both your teams have in common that I wish the Yankees could do like they did in the 90s is your teams did an amazing job developing the prospects through the farm system rather than spend money recklessly. I would still say the Braves should be favored if we happen to see a Braves-Orioles World Series though.

I had some towards the Rays in 2020 because I just thought Kevin Cash was a total scum, great manager yes but his demeanor really rubbed me the wrong way. I kind of let it go recently because the Yankees are the ones pissing me off now. You guys developed your prospects through the farm system, the Yankees have spent money recklessly and only developed Aaron Judge to be a superstar for more than 2 years in the last 10 years. At least Gleyber Torres may be having a resurgence but if only the Yankees could learn from the Orioles. Or better yet how did Brian Cashman not learn a thing from Gene Michael when he was his assistant in the early 90s when the Yankees were rebuilding before they had the dynasty in the latter part of the decade?

As a lifelong Dodgers fan and overall fan of baseball in general, it gives me great pleasure to see small market teams like Baltimore & Tampa Bay having huge success over the likes of deep pocket teams like the Red Sox and Yankees. I would include the Astros here too, but they cheated.
@showtimenick824
@showtimenick824 9 месяцев назад
I'm a Yankees fan and lets seriously get over it with the whole cheating thing. The Astros just simply are a well run organization whether they cheat or not. Did the cheating give the Astros an advantage? Yeah but it's not why the Yankees only scored 3 runs in 4 games in Houston. It's not why Gary Sanchez dropped Didi's throw that was right on the money and beat Altuve by a mile on Carlos Correa's walk off. Jose Altuve was always against the cheating and there's never been any proof of him wearing a buzzer but even if he did wear a buzzer, Aroldis Chapman threw him a terrible pitch anyways. Your Dodgers only scored 1 run in game 7 of the 2017 World Series. Last year there was nothing fishy going on but even if there was, the Yankees are a dysfunctional team now that got really lucky against the Guardians, don't even get me started on Aaron Boone and the Phillies starting pitching outside of Aaron Nolan and Zack Wheeler was bad all year, they both stunk in the World Series. So seriously, it's time to just move on already with the cheating scandal. It's old news. Anyways, I do agree that small market teams being able to prove you can win on a low budget is something I actually think is good for sports not just baseball.
@ronpartainxrp
@ronpartainxrp 9 месяцев назад
@@showtimenick824 I agree with you… I was simply pointing out they cheated in 2017, but I should have been more thorough in my comment. Like you, I have made the same argument that the inability to hit in the World Series was the reason we lost, not any trash can beating. We had home field and as such, 4 games in our house, that cannot be blamed on cheating. Despite what happened in 2017, it does not diminish the success they’ve sustained since then, which is absolutely undeniable. I’m not sure I’d consider Houston a small market though, it’s the 4th largest city in the United States. But I’m the one who included them, so the egg is on my face.
