Perfect timing! I'm just getting ready to replace valve seals on a gen4 with the engine in the car. I'm going to try and zip tie the belt/cams together and replace valve seals one side at a time to prevent the belt from rotating too much. This was very helpful.. I just hope I don't have to remove that weird shaped engine bracket 🤞
Great video I just did the belt on my gen 2 I'm using a gates racing belt. Issue I'm having is I set the timing correctly I spin it around and I can slide the belt off of the cams with ease it seems the belt is very loose
It was literally impossible to install the belt without having the tensioner completely off to give perspective on how perfect of a fit the belt is supposed to be
How did you get that belt on? Did you put the belt on, then the tensioner? What order did you put everything back after placing the lower cover on to see if you were at top dead center?
Install the belt and once you have all the marks alligned go ahead and install the tensioner. You need to have the lower cover and crank pulley installed since there are no other timing marks on the side of the engine to allign the crank pulley.
Your dont have to, this is something i learned from my uncle years ago who is a professional dealer tech. That grease is actually vaseline and apparently helps to prime the pump on startup and reduce friction.
Just remove the right side mount and remove the three bolt from the rear mount. That will give you enough access to use a jack/wood on the oil pan to raise and lower the engine to get to the crank pulley.
Yes it was a tight fit and you need the correct length bolt to slide at an angle. I also removed rear engine mount to allow me to jack the engine a bit higher to provide more access. I was stomped for a while like you but finally figured it out using this method. You got this
Would have enjoyed a greater detailed exploration of the actual timing belt install and replacement then what was presented left me feeling cheated. Click bait cheated .
Hello. Its a challenge to film doing the timing with the engine installed. For reference I have more detailed videos on the channel replacing the timing belt on a gen4 and gen5 , 3sgte. Appreciate the feedback.
