I was lucky enough to meet King Buzzo after a festival show in Calgary years ago. Super nice guy, also one of the smartest people in the music world. Nothing but respect for him and Dale.

Fun fact: My distant cousin who is like 40, claims and swears her husband was going to be Nirvana's drummer before Dave Grohl got the spot at the *last* second. She holds a weird grudge against him and Cobain, but I have asked actual people who were in the 90s music scene if they ever heard of this guy in their life. Every person I asked told me this story is a complete farce, made up by my cousin's partner for music clout. Another fun fact: He is the drummer for his own east-coast thrash metal band. I have yet to listen to a second of his music, and after seeing he lied about this BS, makes me not want to give his band a chance. Shows how far and wide people tried to latch onto Nirvana and Cobain for clout.

Here’s another fun fact: melvins was featured in a compilation album called “Deep Six” in 1986 along with 5 other bands from the Seattle area. They are considered to be one of the forefathers of “grunge”

Instead of helping Cobain, Buzz would have rather swept his problems under the rug and just ignored it. While Buzz may see Cobain as a “Junkie and a prick.” He was much more than that to alot of people, and was an alright guy at his worst. Kurt wasn’t a saint, but he was definitely a good guy.

I used to love The Melvins, but Buzz kept running his fucking mouth and ruined everything for me.

Well i made it 6 minutes in before turning it off. This video is riddled with sooo many inaccurate facts. Here's the ones i remember in the first few minutes Buzz and Kurt never had classes together. Buzz was a few grades above Kurt. First time Kurt heard Melvins was the show outside the grocery store. Prior to that he never heard of them. Kurt didn't drop out of school to form a band. He dropped out due to not having enough credits to graduate a few weeks before the end of his senior year Technically true Dave Grohl wasn't aware of Cobain and Novoselic, Dave was aware of Nirvana and was a fan of Bleach. The only picture he had seen of Nirvana before joining the band was the front cover of Bleach. Buzz took Cobain and Novoselic to see Scream in the summer of 1990 a little over a year before Neverminds release not 3 years before it. I know theres more misinformation but i refuse to rewatch the video to recollect. These are easy to research and prove facts.

I don't know how American schools work but how would someone born in 1967 be in a class with someone born in 1964? Was it extra curricular or by school do they really mean College? Or was Buzz held back a few years (seems unlikely given how intelligent he is)? I know Cobain used to roadie for Melvins and they credit him on the Gluey Porch Treatments Lp as Kurdt Kobain.

Correcting some slight Misinfo here, I'm a big, big, big Melvins fan. The title is very misleading as I thought this was going to dive in the (not true rumor) of Kurt Cobain being a former Melvins roadie. But, Kurt was never fired from Houdini. It's more than less he was allowed to just walk away from it. The production was stressing him out and he had been wanting to just walk away from it; mainly because of his addictions at the time. Long story short, he was never "fired". It's mentioned that the band was signed to Atlantic in 1993 but they were actually signed mid to late 1992, as this is when most of the production for the album took place. Fun fact, Al Smith signed them to the record and he was mentioned as being the "genius" to do so, so props to him. Kurt was never a Melvins roadie. Sometimes he'd drive around the aptly named "Melvan" around for the band and when he used it for a bit when it was out of use. Kurt did, infact, work on the album. He suggested that Buzz add the lyrics to Hooch in the booklet since he thought they were funny. He played additional guitar on Sky Pup and percussion on Spread Eagle Beagle. He helped produce at least half of the album from what I gathered. * Buzz did not want to distance himself from Kurt due to his drug abuse, as throughout the very early 90's Buzz had been struggling with similar issues throughout the recording of Houdini. More or less that Kurt's group of people (not the Nirvana guys but the people he hung around with who kind of let the drugs really do their damage to him) who he hung out with. * Oh my god, Kurt's passing, let's dive into that. It's made to seem like Buzz was the only one instigating the ideas of Kurt being a "Drug Addicted Junkie" or "Prick" despite the entire band doing so. The 1994 record, "Prick" was in fact originally going to be named after Kurt but this was before his passing. They named it prick because "Kurt was a Prick for dying before they could release the record, and they didn't want it to seem like a tribute." Which, in hindsight, listening to the album definitely explains why it wouldn't be received so well as a tribute. It's something the band, 2/3 of which were very close with Kurt, knew he would find funny. But, the band has definitely matured. I highly respect the end of this video mentioned the band's "newfound" sensitivity to the subject, but really it's always been there. The band has matured a lot in recent years and they seem more open to talking about how THEY really felt and rather what the media really doesn't want to hear. Buzz and Dale both are very obviously uninterested in constantly getting asked questions about their friends death 30 years after it happened. It's not like they weren't mourning in the 90s either. It's been stated that after Kurt's death, the band started playing "The Ballad of Dwight Fry" (From their record Lysol, which is a cover of Alice Cooper.) to mourn Kurt, Buzz even changed some of the lyrics to match Kurt's situation which is hard hitting as it is. It's just guys mourning their friend the way that they want to, and people process grief differently. A lot of people tend to take Buzz's "Sour" approach to Kurt's death as a rude, hateful thing, but really he just wants to make light of it since it's what Kurt would've done. Melvins learned about Kurt's death the day they arrived back to America after recording Prick in London, and they also played a show that night. They didn't cancel the show, which to me is a sign of ultimate respect. Honoring his legacy by doing what he loved, playing music. PS, Melvins are really great live. I highly recommend trying to catch them whenever they stop by, which is often.

I wonder this as a fan of Kurt who can I identify with him as a wounded soul. Kurt's pain doesn't excuse some of his behavior. having seen the Kurt and courtney HBO doc, they were both turds, and you can sympathize that he is stuck in a self destructive cycle to hide from his pain, but he had his nasty moments, even earlier in his life than thought due to how this video provided accounts from his friends as far back as '86, many years before nevermind....
