So here was my revelation about the Bangles sining this is a different key: The Paul Simon song here in D minor, which is known as a very stark key, the D-minor is relative to (and harmonically dependent on) F-major. F major is and open-sounding key, akin to lime-green colo. Nature. F-major has historically been used a key for the Pastoral, or "country-side" music (See Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony in F." Therefore the song is certainly a reflection of the dark side of the seasons. "Hazy shade of winter," vs. the growth and hopefulness of spring (green). So, again, The Paul Simon composition is is D minor. What The Bangles do is us that relative-major of D-minor (F) and make it minor. The song is now in F-minor. Therefore ,they have created a Pastoral, but as heard in a negative or "dark" light. The most fascinating thing about the Bangles version is when you ask, what if the relative-MAJOR of F-minor. The answer is A-flat. Blue. The key of death. And, so, winter comes again.... @@mariamiranda5508 Interestingly, the Bangles' cover was... also made for a movie (Less Than Zero). So, this song has now been brought back to the spotlight three times, two of which gave us new renditions of it, all of which involved it being used in the soundtrack for a screenplay.

Love this version. It's got an awesome Punk sound to it.

This is somewhat of an insult to actual metal songs. It's not metal. It's not hard rock. It's just a fun rock song. As for the tone, the song was written by Paul Simon so that may be a factor.

I'd highly disagree. Metal and punk both come from taking folk rock, which came from blues, and then twisting and screaming the shit out of it energetically either with minimalist ethos (punk) or maximum sound (metal). The bones of this song are punk/metal and it took a band in the 80s to realize that. This version was commercialized some 20 years later but it was definitely not and never has been some mainstream radio hit. It's well produced but definitely not mainstream rock, for the time or now.

@@annemariegilbey9306 The only difference is the amount of distortion, and it's a little too fast. Yeah, it's a S&G cover, the point is they didn't realize they wrote a folk song that could one day be heavy as anyone wants to make it.

The pounding bassline, the main riff, the tempo and intensity...that's all metal to me. You might be a fan of a different version sort of metal than I am, but this definitely evokes the sort of metal that I love, the sort of metal that is the reason why I call myself a metal head.

@@joshstrike I would say a lot of metal is also heavily influenced by classical music, Wagner, Holst, etc., the aggressive, dramatic stuff. Heavy metal has a lot of branches, I think. It has a side that is more grounded in the blues and a side that is more influenced by the pomp and power of classical music and opera. Anyway, I think you make great points. Well said.

Less than Zero. Forget Ironman, Chaplin, this is Downey’s greatest role, the lost dissolute youth with so much potential but tragically flawed.

A book title possibly derived from an old Noel Coward song "Parisian Pierrot" and then turned into the movie Less Than Zero. Read the book and saw the video- don't think I ever saw the film-maybe a bit on TV.

They were incredible musicians, really. I have mad respect for all of them.
