Recorded on the evening of Wednesday 5th September 2001, for transmission the following Monday, 10th September 2001. Several RPers are cheering in the audience. :)
LOVE the Bangles till this day!!!! Always listened to their wonderful songs, Walk like an Egyptian still is one my favorite Clips.. All four girls are equally talented and beautiful... never gets old!!!
For those who are confued about Michael Steele being back with the Bangles, she came out of music retirement to be with her friends one last time and the album that came out in 2003. After that album however, she was truly done with music and quit for (what it appears to be) good. It was nice to have her back for one more album in the early 2000s.
@@sambradley1968 Prettier? Are you serious - so this is a beauty contest now? Jeeze why must women always be put into some imaginary beauty contest and judged like cattle - YUK! A great band formed by some really talented musicians and singer/songwriters.
I really love you girls The Bangles Band. Just watching interviews you hanging out such a blast! You girls remind me so much watching kiss, The Beatles, the monkeys, hello hello you did say that you were influenced by the Beatles that's awesome and it shows
Good interview ... how interesting it was broadcast the day before 9/ 11.. I'd heard they were still in UK at this time..with interviews / promo talk shows for the new album..
Michael Steele is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and I agree with people saying that she is an amazing bassist, guitarist, and singer". Her voice is amazing! She has a big, beautiful voice. Her face is like a masterpiece of a great artist and a creation of God. Does she know how beautiful she is?!? I wish she had a daughter or son that looks like her but I heard she has no family of her own....well, when she was asked about "family", I think that was sadness that I saw but she was trying to hide it and did defense mechanism instead....
I LOVE Michael's BIG CHEEKY Smile, After hearing her in many interviews I think she's the Intellectual One,.. I also Like Vicki/Lead Guitarist - BOTH are 1 Honey of an an " O " okay I stole that from a Cheerios Commercial , lol But Love The BANGLES/ The Bangs as they started out as. :)
May God kindly bless, and Protect dear Micki wherever she is now, along with her beloved pets. All my love, and God, s Blessing for you, my dear sweet Micki.
Ok, I know this is an older issue, but wth happened with Micki Steele? I used to dig The Bangles back in the 80s, but sort of lost keeping track. I know I really liked her, well all of them actually, with Susanna Hoffs, being my personal favorite. But, it would be great if they all played together, again.
Heard rumors in interviews with some band members that she took a break ,retired complete from the music biz a couple years after & lives now here in Canada with her pets..& happy as can be also ..
@@ankihansen2489 I suggest you watch them in a live concert and you will change your opinio of them. Debbi is a very good drummer, as Vicki is in lead guitar. And what everybody doesn't notice is that Susanna is a very good rhythm guitarist. Many people think rhythm is easy, but to be a good rhythm guitarist is difficult, and Susana is very competent. But of course Michael is tremendously missed. Although Annette, who was the Bangles original bassist is also very solid.
I love all the girls but it sucks the way Michael is overlooked so much when she's the biggest talent in the band and most popular Bangle among most Bangle fans.
they got to hating each other , you know, creative differences as it is always referred to as --- but the blonde on the far right quit at the Walk Like an EGYPTIAN , she walked alright. They (managers - record label) didn't want her singing and just wanted her to play a tambourine and whistle....she was pissed to say the least because she did not get support or backing from Suzanne and the others to force them to allow her to play the drums and sing on the single.
I was in LOVE with Vicki at 15,..my first female crush,..always had Michael stir something in my belly even then,..Now as a 38 yr old adult,..Michael was the most talented, the most prolific writer and the most beautiful The Bangles, are NOT the Bangles sans her
A great lady to work with .Will always remember her in belfast, did not know that she was one year younger than me.she still looks very well. regards Tony sadar and margie
@@sambradley2975 'strides for women in music'? christ listen to yourself, you make it sound like women are an oppressed minority (which you clearly think they are), I guess Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Janis, Dionne, Diana, etc etc etc never happened, gtfo with that crap
They were doing all the British TV shows on their reunion. I missed all them. I only caught the article in The Evening Standard on their reunion - after the Atomic Kitten cover.
@quaquaquaa, U said,"...seeing as how the band was marketed as Susanna and Those Other Girls..." - Every Bangles fan knew that each girl sang lead on certain songs, I never considered Susanna as THE lead singer because they all contributed their musical talents. You probably think they were marketed as Susanna and Those Other Girls because most of the hit singles released were sung by Susanna (Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wants, Eternal Flame and In Your Room, among others).
they split up because Hoffs was pursued to go solo, it didn’t work out for her and they were offered silly money to regroup. when this show was aired they absolutely hated each other.
3:47 - Mikey is quite hesitant to talk abt the loss of her parents. Can't prove this but I believe she shut down Crash Wisdom when she received news about her father's illness. She went straight to his side for the next few years.
A nervous breakdown? How do you know that? And she didn't just do that one song with them, she recorded their final album with this band, as well as numerous concerts from 2000 - 2004. My question was ironic. ;)
lol interviews from the past the other three girls were pissed because Susan was being called the Bangles "lead singer" and they were deriding her for being a sex kitten. Well, she sang the lead on almost all their songs, and was/is hotter than hell. The bangles really broke up due to jealousy. It's clear from earlier interviews during the break-up time itself. Also the drummer was pissed because the producers brought in a drum machine and didn't even let her sing on "Walk Like an Egyptian." She's got the best voice out of all the girls (just listen to "Down to Liverpool" if you doubt her voice is the best) and wasn't allowed to sing or play drums on their biggest hit.
Annette has nothing to reclaim. Micki did not take anything away from her. Annette left the band because she could not harmonize (only lead vocal) and wanted to play rockabilly. Debbi said "She wanted to be a singer and not to only be devoted to play the bass". Vicki said: "Annete was not a good singer for our style. She loves more the rockabilly music. We try to play 1 or 2 rockabilly songs so that she could sing them, but we realized that it was not our style." Susanna said: "She wanted to sing more. Play the bass was not her passion." They would not have achieved the success they got by singing rockabilly. that´s true. For that reason Vicki questioned MIcki about her musical taste. She won the audition by answering Vicki Peterson's question, "Describe your dream band" with "The Yardbirds with Fairport Convention vocals". Micki was musicially compatible with them. In addition, Micki had more experience than all of them together (including Annette). She was already a consecrated bassist. For something she was the only Bangle irreplaceable in the album Different Light. And it hurts whoever hurts is she who receives their royalty payments for the success of the band. They will never enjoy something like that again. And Annette will always be a rental bass player.
When they broke up in 1990, Michael was burnt out and Debbi was resentful of Susanna's spotlight (plus got married). But they reunited for "The Spy Who Shagged Me". Michael had another nervous breakdown after their reunion tour and is apparently is done with music (unfortunately)
They daren't say just how terrible the Atomic Kitten's version of Eternal Flame is because they are raking in cash thanks to this deal....but note that none of them said it was good music they just said that they were 'sweet'.
the spice girls were not a band. they were a group. the bangles were and still are a band. also, not sure if about the 80s belonging to the bangles when there were the go go's. hehe. not sure.
I'm just saying the more interviews I watch. I'm telling you. If I can be so bold you girls are so beautiful and so talented but with all due respect watching your interviews you almost sound like Kiss want to hang out get together and have fun there's nothing wrong with that
i saw them live 10 Sep, the day before 911, in London, so this interview timeline makes sense. Loved susanna in 86, in 2001 when i saw those legs close up, and still today xxx
wow. that must have been so hard... the divorce. because the record companies are saying your 3 album deal is up. we NEED a solo susanna album (becuz they think u have to change every 5 years and solo projects stimulate the band sales) plus as an artist its like well yeah id like to try a solo album...do different things. but on the other hand, you have a record company that has fooled the world into thinking susanna is the lead singer, vicki has never even had a single even tho she sang as many songs as susanna. the company wont push vicki, even though she is in many ways the driving musical talent and so there is friction there and i just... i really think the bangles should have taken a year off, let sue do a solo album and return, instead of feeling it was a betrayal and permenantly ending the band. of course i understand vickis feelings. it was her band and then susanna became the star of it in a way that didnt honor her as an equal member. and the truth is vicki is gorgeous and if the damn record companies pushed one of her songs it would have been just as big as anything else... the thing about susanna is... she really isnt into being the diva. thats not comfortable for her so... she knew from the getgo the solo album was a mistake, but vicki was so hurt by it that she wouldnt even consider reuniting. which i get because its like... the world is pushing us into this box...the american beauty myth, gender stereo types and im a driving force in this band and you should stand up for me susanna... for us but by doing the solo, youre feeding into the beast thats destroying our band, minimizing my presence within it and i should have been able to count on you to stand for me, for us, for what the bangles truly are rather than what marketing pushed them into appearing as... and i guess it hurt vicki. but they didnt have to break up. why not say ok susanna is gonna do a solo album, why dont you and debbi guest on a couple records and we we will put out a new bangles album hot on the heels of susanna's solo success? but it didnt go that way and its really too bad because those years.... we lost a lot of good bangles music that could have been plus, the bangles could have become a classic american rock band if theyd put out another 3 albums in the 90s. but doll revolution was worth waiting for. best album theyve ever made. im just sorry the bangles arent up there with aerosmith as a lifer band. they truly deserve to be.
@@MrDLOC11 Good point. Jarma does raise some good ones too, like the fact that the band should've been bigger and longer lasting. I don't think Susanna's to blame, so much as the record co and promoters. But, yeah, nothing prevented Vicki or the others from doing solos. They're better as a unit though. Too bad the powers that be didn't seem to appreciate that, at the time. That's show biz.
just to add, its not that vicki blamed sussana, but its the managers and producers fault by committing the ladies into horrible schedule thats gonna keep them away from their new family and rest. its the same way they run elvis to the ground by forcing him to perform and follow a formula of hits
It was a sad thing for the group that we all [the men] went crazy over Susanna [and to a lesser extent Michael] and the others just got jealous. Susanna couldn't understand why but that's the way the cookie crumbles. She was caught between a rock and a hard place. This interview was good because it concentrated more on the others than Susanna. But the Spice Girls? What sort of comparison is that?
Nonsense. The damned record co, the big wig executives ripped that band apart. Susanna was essentially following directives. She was/is the most gorgeous and also very talented and it is a business. Do I like it, no. They should've allowed the band, it's autonomy. But blaming one member for the band's misfortune is both unfair and naive. And even tho it was years later, the others didn't have to rejoin Hoffs. They must've realized, as Vicki stated here, that it was the execs who foiled the Bangles, not anything amongst the band members.
