What i love about these two, is how they just tell it how it is. Other spoiler channels, beat around the Bush to much. And drag things out. These two also make me laugh. Which is a breath of fresh air.

I just had the opposite thought. I am new to this channel and I feel the amount to time these two spend in narrating the story itself is annoying. We come to a review to hear about a reviewer's thoughts about the movie, not to hear a re-telling.

I just watched this and enjoyed it. Padriac went through several stages before his dissent to what seemed like madness. I totally understood Colm's wanting to focus on his music, but I couldn’t understand how he found time to chat with the jerk officer. I suppose it wasn’t like he was spending all of his spare time with him, but it seemed odd. This film is very reflective of life and friendships in general. It’s like outgrowing things that no longer serve you. The problem is the people you outgrow feel rejected.

I give it 4/5. The acting, writing and cinematography was really good. I agree with the ending not what I wanted but I guess that’s life. Maybe it’ll leave room for a sequel? Lol

When you take a step back this movie is crazy as hell, but the themes are correct. It plays like a theater production. It’s cool. If you have lost friendships this film can teach you a lesson. Colin Farrell playing this lonely isolated and creepy man I can see y he’s getting awards recognition.

A few weeks ago, Brendan Gleeson hosted SNL, and Colin Farrell popped on stage during the monologue. You could feel the warmth, camaraderie, and friendship between them. A thought I had about the movie, which I am definitely going to see, are the feelings one has when your close, best friend starts to move on for no apparent reason, as this most often happens growing up. Perhaps, it is an actual physical move to a new location, and you slowly lose touch. Perhaps, the friend finds new interests and a new group. Perhaps, you have changed without realizing it. This is the sadness I felt, when I viewed trailers and articles on the movie. Your review was excellent, and am so looking forward to seeing it.

You don't get men from an older generation maybe? The ending was clearly a happy one. Body language and a few words indicated that A) Colm realized he wants to live, thanks to the close brush with death, he has hit his rock bottom, and will only get better b) he says he's REALLY sorry about the donkey which means he cares for Pádraic C) Pádraic clearly cares when he says he don't (as a response) D) By saying he will look after his dog "anytime", Pádraic indicates he will be there for Colm. The End. These guys' friendship has been restored. Colm's depression will be in remission.

Barry Keoghan is the most interesting character in the movie. I wanted to know more about him. The movie misses him towards the end. Barry Keoghan's performance is the best I've seen in any movie this year. Best Supporting Actor Oscar please. I agree that the final third isn't as good. Once the Brendan Gleeson character removes his fingers for the second time the movie has become even darker and there's no resolution to the quarrel. In fact it's the opposite - Colin Farrell's character has become full of bitterness towards his old friend and there's an escalation in the conflict that you feel will only end when one of them is dead. By that stage the fabulous comedy from the earlier part of the movie has gone. I love the two great very funny scenes in the confessional box in the local church in particular.

Do you guys think that Padric is gay? or at least that Padric is ok with substitute an ordinary straight relationship with a deeper relationship with Colm? An enigma for me is why Colm has this tactic where he cuts of his fingers. He says he'd rather play and compose than to continue with his relationship with Padric, but it doesn't make sense to cut off his fingers to achieve this. It just removes the possilibity to achieve his hope. A hint about the possible gay theme here is the confession scene where the priest asks Colm if he has sinful thoughts about men. Both men reject this with a stereotypically masculine reaction, which could indicate a lie. Padric obviously loves Colm. Colm loves music, and sacrifices his love for music by cutting off his fingers.

:) I like your remarks on the "village idiot" running joke - I mean, why does it matter? Like, a "no man is an island" vibe - about isolationization and interconnectedness issues. To me, your comments point to Brandon's character being 'depressed' as his self-harm clashes with the musician part he's extolling. Joseph: "I would do anything to be just left alone" and yes, that character "showed despair" ;D Deep black comedy, right there I guess:)

Could Collin Farrel's character have killed Dominic, since he was "the new him" and he's forgoing his "nice guy" persona? Not to mention he's got beef with Dominic's father, would that be revenge of some sort?
@SweetJeopardy
@SweetJeopardy Год назад
I didn't get that vibe. I felt that the tipping point for Dominick was Colin's sister leaving the island after that (brilliant and absolutely heartbreaking) scene where he confesses his love to her and she rejects him (very compassionately though). You feel the last of his dreams die, he's left isolated in this neurotic town with nothing to look forward to but a future of brutal and visible beatings (as well as the implied SA) by this absolute sadist of a father whom he'll unfortunately have to be dependent on for the rest of his life, and just decides to end it. Collin's transformation isn't into this evil persona, and definitely not indiscriminately mean as his grievance is very much targeted towards Gleeson; what he becomes is bitter, which is pretty much the antithesis of the hopelessly cheerful, good natured guy who we met at the beginning. He seemed to be the only truly character who was truly content with his simple life at the start of the film. Gleeson's depression and existential dispair, which -as we later see discussed in other scenes (like one of the confessionals with the priest) goes beyond whatever Farrell's useless ramblings were, and seem to get progressively worse as the movie progresses...a darkness that he's also surrendered into and confesses to not even willing or able to fight it. IMO the only one who gets a real shot at happiness and fulfillment is Siobhan by being the only one who dares to step away. I think it's obvious by my involuntary essay above that this movie has really stayed on my mind since watching it, lol. Conpletely blindsided me too cause I'm such an insufferable cynic. All these themes seem so heavy yet they're told with humor and warmth and lightness and compassion. Having watched almost all of the year's Best Picture Oscar contenders (haven't gotten around to "Avatar 2"), I think this might be my fave.

It won a Golden Globe for Best Picture in "Musical or Comedy" Mostly, I want to express that your review really focused on the surface aspects, but there was SO MUCH symbolism-regarding the nature of the Civil War and of Irish folklore. That is why it ended the way it did...

I have always found Martin McDonagh infuriating. His 'darkly' comic tales have proved him to be a one-trick pony. There's always a village idiot. There's always an unfeasible feud. There's always comic-book violence. Worse still, more often than not, it's always a deeply prejudice caricature of Irish people and his ill-perceived notion of their 'culture'. He's made millions out of degrading and exporting this 'paddy' culture. His movies always have the finest of actors, but as the old adage goes, you can't polish a turd.
