He is just unbelievably attractive and the wittiness only adds to it. Such a great song.

Ed is such a great rhythm guitarist, definitely one of my inspirations. I'm trying to learn a lot of their songs, they are one of my favorite bands.

Love the satirical name-dropping. The true multi-instrumentalist and soloist in the band is Kevin Hearn, while Ed is more of a songwriter who uses the guitar. And both musical approaches are really important!

haha this is hilarious i love Ed's humor. The ending cracks me up with the "i'm Ed Robertson and i'am the idol of guitar players everywhere" and the dead serious look he gives haha i'm surprised he didn't smile or laugh.

Woooooww!!! I've been playing guitar for 27 years and this threw me for a loop at 1st! I'm finally get it but the pure simplistic genius of the open chords, sliding, mixed with palm muting and note choking! sooooo cool!! My new fav song to learn and play :)

This is sorta the style I'm trying to develop. He's definitely a great guitarist. And all those techniques add accent to the song. Better than "typical" chording.

To any and all interested he did a great performance of this solo/acoustic for the Junos songwriters circle 2020 on the cbc channel and you can see during the bridge(pinch me part) hes going from that same F chord to a G then Am-Am sus2- Am or hammering on and off the 3rd of the Am in open position and back to G. However you prefrer to phrase or notate it. But that section wasn't covered here. Its easy to pick up on if you have the ear, or just look up the song but for those who want a video with solid quality to see how hes playing it solo nowadays(even if just for entertainment) its a solid video.

Ed you freaking crack me up bro! hahah. Love the dead serious faces, and the sarcasm. Only you can do it haha! Glad to know i was playing your song fairly right for the most part! One thing i really liked, is what you said about the right hand! so true, i found this song challenging because that right hand had to be mastered. People drop there mouths in awe, because its such a fluid rhthym which lots of accenting on the guitar. amazing work! thanks for sharing bro!

Another great song that has a lot of palm muting is Save Tonight be Eagle Eye Cherry. In fact, the whole song does. A- D F and G, rinse and repeat. It's the palm muting that gives both songs their respective special sound.

Definitely man. I've never been big into the speed thing. It's all about repetition. I'd take a well written solo over a sped up"box" scale any day. That's why Dave Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists.

How do you do the little ring out high note at 3:39? The little "ting" to end the song?
@KaatokunArt
@KaatokunArt 10 лет назад
I dunno if anyone has answered you yet, but just look up "guitar natural harmonics". It's the technique he used there to make that sound! Not to be confused with "PINCH harmonics". Totally different guitar technique. The basic gist of the natural harmonic technique is to have your finger only slightly touch the strings directly over a fret. Frets 5, 7 and 12 are the easiest to try it on! Good luck! :)

The "real skill" Lies in both. Both take practice and time and effort. Each have their own unique challenges. Both are awesome. It is unwise to belittle another style by saying it doesn't take "real skill." To say you don't like it, however, would be fine.
