"Nica, an angel for Jazz musicians..." + "how important she was to the Jazz community" - what a warm, generous endorsement by someone who was there, who really knows the truth about Nica, Monk and an extraordinary time in American and jazz history

As a New Yorker I would like to say this. Ny is a tough place to live. For jazz musicians it's even harder. Without help like what Nica did a lot of them would have ended in the garbage bin of history and one more thing she was sharing her allowance that's given to her from her family. As we say sharing is caring. GOD BLESS HER.

People who are WSJ subscribers should support the arts you will not be forgotten. These people give their lives (literally, as Ravi Coltrane said) for their art. Jazz etc. is like any other skill, just as hard as business to be sure, but requires paying a debt to the raw healing power of music.

I love to hear about this jazz patron saint and Thelonius Monk. She had a good spirit and a kind heart. May they both rest in peace.

If she came to the US in 1955/56, how was it that Bird died in her Stanhope Hotel suite in March 1955? Like, she had just arrived and Bird went there...?

TS says : " 5 or 6 of the greatests jazz musicians wrote compositions for her…" Actually, there are much more - around 20 - look for yourself here : www.amazon.fr/Pannonica-Tribute-Various-Artists/dp/B07JC5JCRN/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1542394318&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=pannonica%2C+a+tribute+to+pannonica

Thelonius was definitely a genius. Just imagine if we did not have the racism by whites, how many Bachs were possible!

Strange thing to comment on a video about a white woman who helped a lot of black musicians and cared for them as if they were family.

Any who doubt the genius of Thelonious Monk need only look at his school: Stuyvesant High, the most selective and academically rigorous public school in the city of New York.
