Interesting to see detailed coverage of my local area and to hear positive comments about Barrhead station 09:44 I stood there many times on a dark winter’s morning with not such a benevolent thought in mind. 😅
Mind you haven't they just introduced emus to this line?? Takes time to get them fully into service! Still great to see Superior Super Sprinters on the line! and Jordan lol
December 2023 they introduced the electric trains on Barrhead to Glasgow but it's 3 trains per hour, 2 Kilmarnock to Glasgow and a hourly Barrhead to Glasgow. Thanks Tico
I see the former station building at Strathbungo a few years ago and had read online that it was used for Suzies and was a local landmark and it is a shame that it disappeared.
@@Sim0nTrains I lived in Regent Park Square, right at the footbridge, in the 70's and 80's and Suzie's was such an institution. Nice to see the line finally electrified.
@@Sim0nTrains i use the newton train from pollocksheilds to pollokshaws to get my shopping in they are an hourly service and i often use the circular line they have currently done some cut backs so a bit unsure of the future of the service
@@Sim0nTrains and yes its like a weird maxe of tracks and trains over this way took me about aa year to work it out im not used to all these services i grew up across from a station named garrowhill and thought for the longest time this was the only local services hat ran in glasgow what a surprise i got when i was old enough to wonder
Great video , its all changed from I lived there 30 years ago.. great to see Jordan too. . Love the way he was scratching his head when you said yous were headed to Nitshill 😄 absolute class!
I think it would be better if the Glasgow South Western line was to be electrified from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Galloway and for ScotRail to order more Class 385s to be used on those routes.
That 156 used to be on the Edinburgh to Glasgow Central service, occasionally ending up on the Edinburgh to Bathgate line, when I was a student between 1990 and 1993. "It's the age of the train!".
Great video Simon. Really enjoyed it as well as the Irish videos. Dore and Totley was also excellent with the maps and discussion of traffic patterns and operations.
Nice to see a video on a local line . They only need one unit , and it is a 4 car, to do the half hourly service to Barrhead , the other services go onto Kilmarnock which is not electrified and of course still use the 156s . The major benefit will be when East Kilbride electrification finished , then I think I will be right in saying all South Clyde lines out of Glasgow Central will be electrified , except for Kilmarnock , that will hopefully come soon . We will still need diesels for the Carlisle and Stranraer services though
Great vlog of trains south of the river of my home city. You are spot on with saying it is wasteful with electrifying the line and only having one electric train an hour from Barrhead to Central shuttling back and forth calling at all stops. There used to be two Barrhead to Central trains an hour as well as one Carlisle / Kilmarnock train calling at Barrhead each hour, but the service patterns have now changed - I suppose the current service pattern gives Kilmarnock passengers the option to alight or board at stations between Barrhead and Glasgow Central. You have excellent knowledge of the history of each station along the line. You pronounced ‘Priesthill and Darnley’ spot on. Quite a lot of new stations opened in 1990 and early 90s in the Glasgow area like Stepps, Priesthill and Darnley and the reinstatement of the Paisley Canal line which used to go to Kilmalcolm (closed in 1983) and Greenock (closed in the 60s)
I use the 380s fairly regular. As a train - they are pretty good, good acceleration and the seats are decent - similar to the 350s in the West Midlands and West Midlands to London and Liverpool services. I prefer them in terms of comfort and ride quality to Scotrail’s newest EMUs - the 385s which have thin, iron board seats - the hitachi 385s have a rougher ride in my opinion.
Brilliant video Cyber, it's brilliant to see the Barhead line electrified. A bit of a waste to just see 1 electric unit doing it though. As always, it's great to see Class 156's in action. :)
I hope it does being honest, Would love to see it electrified to Kilmarnock and to Carlisle via Dumfries, would make a good diversions for the Avanti services in the future
