The barriers to providing pain management to patients with SCD and thalassemia in Lebanon 

Rana Yamout, MD, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon, discusses the challenges that remain in providing effective pain management to patients with thalassemia and sickle cell disease (SCD) in Lebanon, highlighting the limitations of the current pharmacological model and the need for a multidisciplinary approach. Dr Yamout emphasizes the lack of access to opioids for patients experiencing acute pain episodes and notes that the ongoing crisis in Lebanon is significantly affecting the availability of opioids for pain management.
