The Bat Wing is definitely on the top list of cool paper airplanes, not because it looks amazing, nor because it glides perfectly, it's cool because the wings flap around when thrown. Watch the video now to see how this paper airplane flies and hear the sounds of flapping wings! Again, very very cool paper airplane.
You want to throw the Bat Wing relatively hard because the initial thrust initiates the flapping movement. In the video, I snapped my wrist when throwing it to gain fast initial thrust. Once the paper airplane begins to slow down, it becomes an ultra glider. Watching this paper airplane fly never gets boring.
Transform the Bat Wing into the Bat Fighter: • Bat Fighter Is A Cool ...
*Another flying tip for this paper airplane - make sure the wings have an upwards dihedral angle and that you're holding the paper plane with the wings parallel to the ground. The back fuselage is a lot higher so you have a natural tendency to hold the plane with the wings tilted downwards.
**To improve the flapping wings, you need to fly the Bat Wing around several times and massage the wings a little so the paper isn't so stiff. When the folds are new, the wings are unable to flap as easily.
PAPER
This video was taken using A4 80g printing paper and is tested to work with A4 70g paper as well.
*Should work with 8.5x11in paper, not tested.
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

USING TAPING
Taping the back fuselage of this paper airplane is highly recommended and almost mandatory. Due to the thick head, the many folds causes the paper airplane to easily open up in flight causing it to crash. Tape the back of the fuselage as per the video's instructions will resolve this issue.
You can also tape the nose and fuselage together.
FOLDING / FLYING TIPS
1. Make sure each fold is perfectly aligned. If you have not seen my video on making the perfect paper airplane fold, you need to check this out first: www.coolpapera...
2. Use something hard, like a ruler, to crease each fold. The flatter the paper airplane, the better it will perform.
3. When you are done folding the paper airplane, angle the wings slightly upwards before flying it. This is called a dihedral angle and makes your paper airplane more stability. A good angle also helps with giving the Bat Wing better flapping action!
4. Rub the end of the wings and roll them slightly upwards to adjust the center of lift.

DISTANCE
Unfortunately, this isn't a distance flyer. It does fly very well for an acrobatic paper airplane.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1. The paper plane shoots downwards and crashes. Solve this by rolling the end of the wings slightly upwards.
2. The paper plane shoots upwards and stalls. The center of lift is behind the center of gravity. Try flattening the wings or rolling the end of the wings downwards. You can also try adding a paper clip to the nose of the paper airplane.
3. The paper plane flies to one side. Did you fold the paper airplane evenly on both sides? Flatten and crease all the folds again.
4. It still doesn't fly well. Any bumps or nicks on the paper will affect how your paper plane flies. Make sure you're using a brand new piece of paper and try folding it again.
5. The wings don't flap. As per my earlier suggestion, the Bat Wing requires the wings to be slightly worn so it will flap around. You don't want to the wings to be perpendicular to the fuselage, push the wings up at a slight angle. Additionally, when throwing the Bat Wing, initiate the throw with the wings even to the ground.
FINAL WORDS
My boys love flying the cool paper airplane. If you ever get bored of the flapping wings (I don't think you will), transform the Bat Wing into the Bat Fighter!! The Bat Fighter is a while different monster. For it relatively small paper airplane with awkwardly shaped wings, it flies extraordinarily well and fast. Give both versions of this paper plane a try run and let me know your experiences!
