The beginning of a new journey! I hope you all enjoy my Reaction to the first episode! CORRECTION! - I confused this Joker with being voiced by John DiMaggio, which he doesn’t. That is my bad!
I love this take on The Joker; it's cool how acrobatic he is and how he's able to go fist to fist with Batman, Kevin Michael Richardson must have had loads of fun voicing him.
To me, this Joker has always felt more like a wild animal that gained intelligence, rather than an insane human. The way he moves around is very animalistic, and he seems less of a strategist and more of a quick thinker.
@@SpeedyCheetahCub Which is a neat twist for me. This Joker feels more impulsive and chaotic. Fewer grand plans, more spur of the moment ideas. At least, some of the time. And an animalistic style of movement reflects that, as well as the chaos to Batman's order.
It’s a great twist on the Gold and Silver age joker, after the original writers quickly realised 12 issues in, that having a recurring mass murderer that constantly escapes made Batman and the police look incompetent Unfortunately that realisation only lasted about 30 years before some idiots turned him back into a mass murderer with no regard for the problems that causes
I grew up with this series too! though I didn't watch beyond though , I watched Batman: The Brave and the Bold instead , as my only other Batman cartoon.
This was my first exposure to Batman back in my childhood, and yeah going back to it now it does separate itself in a good way with as you pointed out the visuals and seeing a Batman still relatively new to being the caped crusader as we saw he still needed to work on his batmobile remote almost being run over. I'll go into more detail in the next episode about the other characters and Villains in particular because it's an interesting situation with it coming out as another certain Batman in theaters
Kevin Michael Richardson is actually my all time favorite joke He just brings something so unique to the Joker that we really haven’t seen before or since
Love that you are saying "All time favorite joke" I know you forgot a letter, but somehow, it fits the tribute. You have to be a big joke to act as the Joker!
YESS The most underrated Batman show. This show has the best animated Batman action scenes you'll ever see. Plus the villain designs are very interesting
Personally is this my second favorite animated joker after Mark Hamil. Has such great energy and is genuinely pretty funny. Also the fact he’s voiced by the principal from American dad is just extra funny if you’re familiar with that character
My three favorite Batmen: Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis from the "DC Animated Universe", and Bruce Wayne from "The Batman". Seriously this animated series is AWESOME: The artstyle by Jeff Matsuda (lead character designer of "Jackie Chan Adventures"), the progression of the story, the fight scenes, the music, the new interpretations of classic characters, the addition of new characters. Most importantly, the show does a great job at portraying Bruce Wayne's journey from urban myth, to vigilante, to the protector of Gotham we all know and love, and Rino Romano's voice fits Batman's character like a glove.
I enjoy this show a lot I love it from the animation to the story and for how many seasons it has it has a full story and ends on a good note. Otherwise great first episode and I love how they did joker in this so far like he is so acrobatic & it’s cool to see Batman’s first encounter with him too
The Batman (Season 1 and 2) and Spectacular Spider-Man have my favorite theme songs. Interestingly enough, Greg Weisman also wrote some episodes of this show. And a cool connection is that Weisman’s producing partner for YJ, Brandon Vietti, also did some directing for this show.
Thank you for reacting these series!!! I feel like Matt Reeves also got inspired by these series for The Batman movie especially for Riddler episodes. These series are very detective focused stories as you progress on.
As a comic book fan I always liked this version of Batman because it shows he’s a human being, his struggles are human ones and not everything he deals with is an overly dark and traumatic event. It also shows the real effect that living two lives has on him, he’s Batman and Bruce Wayne not just one or the other
Finally! I think I've only ever seen one other reaction of this series on all of YT, hope you watch all the seasons! Batman constantly learns from his mistakes and upgrades his tech/equipment through each season, you'll really enjoy it ;-]
The time is now. Very underrated show. Glad you're watching it. Also, the theme and opening intro kicks ass. Can't wait for you to get to the Man-Bat episode.
Few things you should know for this series: -This show was created by the same person who made jackie chan adventures so martial arts is a big part of the show. - due to the bat embargo WB did this show was limited on few things they could and couldn't show or have. - His suit’s cowl, cape, gloves and boots are dark blue not black. It’s an interesting color style that pleases both blue cowl and black cowl fans. -This show’s series goal is world building focused so instead of multi-episode arcs like spectacular spider man all episodes are towards world building. -The show's audience was young children who were seeing superheroes for the first time so the episodes will not be very heavy in terms of story. As that could confuse the audience. But there are many amazing episodes. -This batman is actually overpowered in various aspects such as martial arts. So we see him go all out only in two fights for the entire series. Other than those fights he has small 2-4 second moments every episode or two where we see a hint to how good he can really fight. -Like the previous mention of how overpowered batman is. In order for there to be conflict and for the enemies to stand a chance the enemies are buffed while batman is nerfed many times. -Another aspect that he is overpowered in is intelligence. We see how fast he can create new vehicles or gadgets much faster than any adaptation of batman. Towards the second half of the series he mentions to a special character about how he can easily teach a special subject to college kids like it's nothing. That special subject would take other batman adaptations 3 times as long to learn that. Any technology you see Wayne industries develop he already knows how to build and use. -One of the other overpowered things this batman has is his wide arsenal of bat-tech. Out of all batman adaptations he actually has the most bat-tech. As we see him use a new bat-tech item every 2 or 3 episodes. In fact he has so many that his utility belt needs to be pre-equipped with tech that fit the mission. Of course to save time and animation that's done off -the voice of alfred also voiced alfred in 2020's Batman the long halloween part 1 and Batman the long halloween part 2. -many actors and voice actors do voice characters in the series at some point. adam west, kevin conroy, brandon routh etc. -After season 2 but before season 3 remember to watch “The Batman vs Dracula”. Also note that the sequel to that movie was supposed to be “The Batman vs Hush” and a poster is online of it. But the movie got canceled due to writer's strikes.
I always loved this show, it wasn't afraid to try new concepts that really hadn't been touched on in Batman media before. The art style is super unique and the music is fantastic. Can't wait to see more!
Fun fact I never actually grew up on this show I just finished episode 1 earlier so that it would be fresh in my mind I have to say it’s gonna be odd actually watching this show alongside you
MY FAVORITE SHOW GROWING UP! Love the animation, very anime-like, the tech is amazing, and I gotta say I absolutely love this Joker! The second best animated take after Hamill!
SO happy to see someone react to a childhood favourite. Just discovered these - so I’m gonna watch them all! This is a favourite take of Batman. The designs are so unique and out there. The characters, stories, animation and music are all top tier. Looking forward to this journey 🦇
I always appreciated this version of the joker. Something about him made him so interesting to me. It might have been the hair style and the laugh. Kevin Richardson, voice of the Joker, did an excellent job. Also I liked that this joker has his own personal style of fighting.😂
Yea and its a shame ppl complain that ruin the unique of his perso and style. He lost the coold straigh jacket look and found out his fwce and hair was tone down which why he always look angry in later episodes thst sadly annoyed me because first time i saw the preview i just love this joker next to mark hamil joker in the series
This Batman series was so good and underrated for so many, yeah some characters looks were a bit off at the start but they grew on me as the series progress. I may be getting way ahead of myself, but I believe you'll enjoy the Season 4 episode " Artifacts " is set in the future. I'll leave it at that. And be aware that there's also a movie set in this Universe called Batman vs Dracula, it finally introduced Vicky Vale as a animated character.
Overall, I'd say this is my 3rd favorite Batman animated series, but only because the DCAU set the bar pretty high and because Brave and the Bold introduced me to a lot of obscure Silver Age characters I never would've known about otherwise. That said, this series holds a special place in my heart and the fact that it ran for 5 full seasons speaks to how good it was.
"The Batman" was one of my favorite Animated shows, one the interesting things in a show is that the Characters, including villains have character-Twist and designs that diverge them from their counterparts.
Hi, I'm new on your channel, it's funny, I just started rewatching this show this week, because WB is releasing the blu-ray version soon :) I really liked your reaction, I hope you will enjoy this series and I'm going to run through your channel in the meantime ^^ I discovered Batman in the weird way, because in my country this show came out in parallel of reruns of Batman TAS, especially its 4th season, I was really young and so confused by the different versions of the characters, I didn't have any concepts of franchise or adaptation then ^^ I think of all the versions of Batman, the bat-designs of literally everything is the best version here for me, and it gets crazier through the show, I like the touch of blue, and the very modern high-tech design, even the bat-cave looks so cool ^^ The animation and the visuals or absolutely gorgeous, and have barely aged a day, as for the chara-design, there is ups and lows but in overall it's really cool :)
Fun fact, Rino Romano, the voice of Batman in this series, also voiced Spider-Man in Spider-Man Unlimited, plus the 2000's Spider-Man games for the PlayStation. Dude's managed to get the best of both worlds.
Could never get into this when it was on. I was a die hard Timm/Dini-verse fan. This was one of those shows where I only watched the opening credits and then changed the channel lol. Like Darkwing Duck, Mummies Alive, The Incredible Hulk, VR Troopers, Johnny Quest(90s), Men In Black, Swat Cats, Kamen Rider Black RX(Japanese show)
I always felt this is a 10 to the 11 of BTAS with a different feel but its still pretty much just as dark and serious but not afraid of being lighthearted and funny. the red skies and dark buildings and use of just big main colors in a cripser image makes me think of graphic novels with stylized art style of course as a kid i didnt knew this shit I just liked how it looked its very teen titeansish and it doesnt try to be BTAS it has its own feel, the blue and electronic look to the batcave and gadgets the shorter ears and the different cowl design and the deep blue, the grungy rock feel to the music the more dynamic way characters move it really is an early 2000s time bomb
The Batwave device, was very reminiscent of a device that was popular at the time called Palm Pilot. At least in design, certainly not in function. I happen to come across your reaction to season 4 episode Relics. So I decided to go to your channel so I could follow your journey through, what I considered a very close second to the 90's Batman: TAS produced by Bruce Timm. In a lot of ways I enjoyed this iteration better. Well, I've got some binge watching to do.
Don't know if you'll see this but... Saying someone had bats in their belfry was basically calling them crazy. The title of this episode was a play on that.
Finally, the first Batman cartoon that I grew up watching as a kid. This show caught a lot of flak for not "being Batman The Animated Series" when it was first airing in the early 2000s, and it struggled to get out of the shadow of the DCAU (especially since Justice League/Justice League Unlimited was airing at the same time), but am I glad that it's finally getting appreciated in a much more positive light in recent years. I can't WAIT to get the complete series Blu-Ray remaster on March 1st, perfect timing with the movie too. It's funny how the movie seems to have a lot in common with this cartoon besides the name, like featuring a young Batman that's only a few years into his career who's still considered an urban legend, and doesn't have any sidekicks or anyone helping him that knows his secret besides Alfred. I've always loved this version of Alfred too, the perfect amount of wisdom and sass that rivals the BTAS version and voiced perfectly by Alistair Duncan. As far as introductory episodes go, this was always a great one. It took the task of introducing viewers (and probably lots of kids) to a new version of Batman that wasn't part of the DCAU that they've come to know for the past 12 years when BTAS premiered in 1992, and did an amazing job. Rather than Kevin Conroy's experienced Batman that's been at it for over a decade, this is a Batman that's only JUST started his third year. Speaking of, Rino Romano is definitely the only voice actor that could voice a convincing Batman AND Spider-Man (from the PS1 era games and the short lived Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon from the late 90s) out of all the Batman or Spider-Man voice actors. It helps that this Batman is only 26 at this point, so a younger sounding voice works perfectly here. Of course I can't ignore one of the best parts of this show, the intro and the theme. Composed by the Edge from the band U2, it's been one of the most praised aspects of this show whenever I hear people talk about it. The guitar riffs, the visuals, and the iconic "The Batmannnnnn" sound at the end really made this intro stand out on its own from the orchestral intro of Shirley Walker's BTAS theme. And this is STILL one of the best Batman intros to date, at least for me anyways. I wish we got to see your first reaction to it, but I guess it got cut for time and content copyright reasons. The animation style here is made by the same guy who helped make the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon that aired around the same time, as well as the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon, so it's why the animation is much more action focused and fast. I feel like that gave the fight scenes a BIG upgrade compared to the DCAU Batman fight scenes, Batman here almost moves like a superhuman shadow with his speed and that giant cape. You might've noticed, but this Batman is definitely a lot more high tech than previous iterations. The entire Batcave design, the Batarangs having that blue light running through it and a humming sound when it's thrown, the Batmobile being more a sports coupe kind of car with fins and 4 afterburners on the back instead of the single circular afterburner, the Bat-Wave instead of the usual Bat-Signal, these were all unique aspects that made this Batman different, and it fit perfectly with a Batman that's hasn't got the usual supporting cast and equipment yet. There's no Commissioner Gordon at this point, and Ethan Bennett/Ellen Yin are actually original characters that were created for the show, but you'll like them a lot when you get deeper into the show. Bennett is actually Bruce's best friend in this, sort of like the Harvey Dent role in this case. And this show presents a new dynamic of Batman being hunted by the police, compared to the DCAU where he was already established with Gordon and was respected by most of the other cops. Now for the first episode of a new series and continuity, there's no doubt that they wouldn't have used any other villain to kick things off unless it was a new Joker. You've already corrected this, but he's voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson and not John DiMaggio (that was in the Under The Red Hood animated movie from 2010). And yeah, this episode is the first time this Batman and Joker meet, they've never met before this. Even though his physical appearance has been the subject of controversy over the years with a lot of comments I've seen calling him a "rastafarian Joker", I've always liked the design. Yeah, it's not the standard purple suit and pointed shoes wearing Joker that Mark Hamill has been voicing for years at that point, but it still has that element with the purple straightjacket that identifies him as Joker. And as a new twist, this Joker knows how to FIGHT, clearly being able to keep up with Batman and dodging his strikes while countering with his own. I can tell Kevin Michael Richardson had a blast voicing him, his laugh alone is instantly recognizable and isn't trying to be a Hamill imitation. I'm still pumped that you've started this show, and I can't wait to see what you think about it after all 5 seasons are done. I have a feeling you'll see why everyone has been calling this show underrated for years afterwards. Here's to a new journey!
Hey Chainsaw 2 question for you. One being are you going to include the shows theme song in your reactions? Second question is would you ever do a reaction series for batman beyond?
Looking back yiu can see the upcoming Batman film takes few nods from here. The tone of the intro of this show with the music in trailers. Bruce looks here is similar to Roberts look. Design wise is different in this show vs previous version like riddled. When you reach the riddler episode you will see with same case for mr freeze.
Do you know what the creators of the show said Joker was supposed to represent? The collective rot and moral decay of Gotham. He is all of it personified.
This Joker is a lot less.... refined in his look. Other Jokers wear nice suits. This one goes barefoot and debuted in an unfastened straight jacket. Other Jokers have short, clean hair. This one has harlequin dreadlocks. And you know what? That's a valid take. Joker is the chaos to Batman's order, so a wild man with chaotic movement and wild threads to offset the sleek, disciplined bat works,
It's been so long since I watched that show. I was really wondering about your reaction to Batman/Bruce Wayne's AND Joker's designs which is a taste what would come
