The Battle of Diu occurred on February 3, 1509.
The Portuguese wanted a slice of the pie when it came to the Asia-European spice trade. In doing so, they would come into direct conflict with the Republic of Venice, the Egyptian Mamluk Sultanate, and local Indian monarchs.
The resulting battle over spice routes would be a decisive one, and set the stage for European dominance in Asia for centuries.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, which aspects of this battle intrigued you the most, and what you'd like to see us cover in future videos!

Nah unless it’s with Americans they not interested. And since around this time they didn’t exist, they won’t even go this far in time to make an epic movie. Americans vs Russians or vs aliens or vs natural catastrophe or vs meteors… that’s their ballpark EDIT: and of course where they save the whole world by themselves. Coz also for some reason they always the ones or the first to be invaded. ET chose USA. Transformers chose USA … you get the point 😂

Until now there have been only three global maritime powers, the first Portugal which begins with the conquest of Ceuta in the 15th century, the second England and the third and last the USA. The Portuguese introduced modernity to the navies, until then naval combats were carried out through boarding maneuvers, the Portuguese navies introduced side and bow cannons for distant naval combats. The range of a Portuguese artillery piece on a 16th century ship at the time of this battle was around 1800 meters, the greatest of its time. On the other hand, the Portuguese introduced a technological innovation of repeating cannons, something that was only introduced by the English around 200 years later, the advancement of Portuguese ballistics together with naval construction was overwhelming even in comparison to other European powers. Here in this battle the biggest and best naval machine of its time made its debut, the 400 ton ship "Flor do Mar", including side batteries on the bombord and stibord (two words that came directly from the Portuguese words bombordo e estibordo) side of the guns. The unbeatable Portuguese naval power in this area of the globe can be explained as follows, the range of the Portuguese cannons was 1800 meters, that of their enemies was around 700 meters, so it was enough for a small fleet to position itself at least 800 meters and at most 1100 meters away from enemy ships to be able to fire at will without being hit, this explains this resounding victory of a small armada defeating a huge armada, the secret was the technological advancement and greater firepower of the Portuguese.

"I display it to you, the honorable Meliqueaz, captain of Diu, and let you know that I am going with my horsemen to this city of yours, to throw the people who have taken refuge there, after they fought with my people in Chaul, and killed a man who was called my son; and I am coming in the hope of God in heaven to take vengeance on them and on those who help them; And if I do not find them, this city of yours will not escape me, and will pay me everything, and you, for the good help you have done in Chaul; which I am letting you know, so that you will be well aware when I arrive, that I am on my way, and I am staying in this island of Bombay, as this man who is carrying this letter will tell you." Francisco De Almeida's letter to Malik Ayyaz His tomb in Abrantes reads: "Here lies D. Francisco de Almeida, first Viceroy of India, who never lied or ran away."

That's an interesting take, as far as I'm aware it was the Zamurin, or the translators, I don't quite remember, that asked the Portuguese to engange in piracy when it's mentioned that they took an spice ship and "declared it was theirs by right", as he doubted that the Portuguese would actually manage to do so.

The equipment the Portuguese are illustrated with on this video is anachronistic, and would not be standardized for over 50 more years, specially those swords and morion helmets. A frequent mistake. I'd suggest looking into early 16th century armors, that's not what they looked like.
