Great post Mato! Capa's comments were a very cool addition. Thank You.

The backstory to this game is important: Schlechter was ahead in the match by one point...but he needed to win by _two_ points, and the 10th game was the last game of the match! That's why he played so speculatively throughout. Had he played a "normal" Queen's Gambit Declined, Lasker could have forced an early draw, retaining his title even though behind on points!

This reminds of boxing championships when they were 15 rounds. It was all strategy and will power in the later rounds.

A tactical show or a slow, positional squeeze - Lasker has it all.

Jodie Foster did not like ...dxc4 and made a similar comment based on a similar position in her game with Hannibal Schlechter.

I think I would lose this game either as white or black at any given position..ok.. maybe except for the last position as white..I could manage a draw vs a pawn

There have been a few world chess championship matches in which the champion had to win a game against the challenger near the end of the match just to tie the match and retain his title. Among the challengers, Schlechter (1910) was the first, Bronstein (1951) the second and Karpov (1988?) the third. All could have won the title if they had won a game near the end of the match. Karpov was trying to regain his title and came incredibly close to doing so.
