You'd think they'd know that, while Superman is vulnerable to magic, it's more that he has no specific resistance to it rather than it instantly killing him. Superman can and has defeated magic users before, so Orks being 'magic' doesn't automatically mean Superman dies. Edit: Also, Orcs from LoTR aren't magic as it turns out. Thanks to @Tap-a-roo for the info

Superman is vulnerable to magic but it doesn’t mean ANY semi magical being can beat him. An army of orcs would be literally nothing for superman, spears and swords would do nothing, unless enchanted. And even THEN they still need the absurd reaction time and ability to even hit him in the first place.
