What I love most about Dennis is that although he may have literally shared this information 1,000 times,, he always makes it seem to me that he is sharing it for the first time. It is a great talent for a historian to possess.

It’s shocking to think that consecrated ground would have condos on it now if it was wasn’t for the Battlefield Trust. It doesn’t bare thinking about. Another excellent overview of the battle. Thanks Dennis , and Gary, and to the Battlefield Trust for saving a vital part of American history. I would like to know if either Dennis or Gary are planning any lectures? This is amazing. My family was from Oswego NY and surrounding areas. Several members were in the NY 111th who were branded the Harper Ferry cowards because they surrendered so easily. This video explains why, and of course they were paroled out and lived to fight on during the battle of Gettysburg and there is a memorial to them there.

Beyond awesome. Should be required study for every serious student of American history. Even the comments are worth reading. Very few of the comments are silly. Almost all of them express profound insight and gratitude. How often does that happen on RU-vid? Thank you to all involved- presenters and commenters. This series is a work not only of history, but of art. American Battlefield Trust is an American treasure. All please stay safe. Robert Henry, M.D.

We used my sons April vacation of 2019 to tour the Harper's Ferry battle and Antietam Battlefield. We loved both but my then 8yo son has wanted to return and stay overnight at Harper's Ferry and enjoy the breathtaking views, train rides and hospitality of this historic place. Unfortunately Covid canceled our 2020 April Vacation to Harper's Ferry and Mannasas Junction. And it seems our 2021 plans are for naught also. I promised Jacob we will return as soon as possible.

I’m not completely sure but I think my brother-in-law was the photographer that took the photos for the group that evolved to the American Battlefield Trust. I can remember him telling me that he took dozens of rolls of film. He told us of all the places he went to take the photos to stop developers from building around the battlefields.

This sounds identical to what's happening today. The opposition hoped that causing havoc and chaos through extreme violence might cause voters to oust the Republicans and reinstate the Democrats. Late last year, Democrats spoke of keeping Donald Trump off the ballot in several states. You know what happened the last time the Democrats kept the Republican presidential nominee off the ballot in multiple states.
