In Defense Of The Pilots - As a pilot during this Op, long range was a nightmare. We were receiving multiple different frequencies to use at different points in the Op. This made it difficult as fuck to actually designate targets with ground crews as most of the time LR was being reassigned from 56(the documented Air-to-Ground LR) to 55, 54, etc for no apparent reason. As far as I'm aware, this change was made by ground crews. I see comments calling the pilots unprofessional, and while yes we certainly did crack jokes and pull off some chaotic shenaniganry, most of the complaints stem from our apparent lack of information on what was occurring. Multiple times a call would be made on the air for a resupply at X location, only for us to drop said supplies and be berated on comms for dropping random supplies. The same can be said for CAS, one instance I was ordered to orbit and have my co-pilot fire on a treeline marked with Red Smoke only to kill half a squad of friendlies. The air-to-ground chaos stemming from the operation was, in my opinion, due to a rushed start up as random squads were being thrown into Huey's as fast as possible with no communication from either ground or air as to whom was assigned to whom. Now while I can't speak for every Huey pilot, as there were alot this Op, I can speak for myself. I remember regulalry dropping off supplies, providing CAS, and ferry troops back regularly, and receiving rather positive feedback from the ground assets we could actually communicate with. So I was a bit surprised when after the Op there was such a negative outlook to pilots. I agreed with most of the comments made that stated that the communication between air-to-ground was chaotic and difficult. However, I do not agree with statements saying it was solely or mostly pilots fault. I also don't want to insinuate that it was solely or mostly grounds fault. The fault was both our failures to effectively organize upon Op start, I mainly feel this was due to an eagerness to deploy and rescue the Lost Squad ASAP. Overall, the op was incredible from my perspective. Pulling off hot landings to deliver desperately needed ammo or medical supplies to ground forces was immersive as hell. Just felt like I needed to throw my hat in from all this Pilot slander lol

So, I want to put a couple things into perspective here that will both highlight how masterful Liru's op development skills have gotten at this point and just how much of an amazing experience this was: I was ground command. I didn't want to be ground command since I G.Ced the Krieg op, but I was slow on the draw and - surprisingly - the last spots open were the command team. I guess everyone else just wanted to shoot and not worry about the fine details (this interesting tid bit will play into things to come). So P.O.G - my group - ended up in the hot seat yet again. I felt like a real Vietnam era commander during this op for several reasons A. My platoon was gruff, rough, and cranky and a lot decisions, while followed, were bitched about behind my back or just in front of my face, because no one noticed the G.C coming by or probably didn't care the G.C was nearby. B. Air coordination was a nightmare and we had 4-5 friendly fire incidents - some were air's fault, some were ground's fault. C. I didn't fire my rifle, all of but, 3 times. Seriously. I couldn't see fuck and all. My computer sucks and also the V.C were like ghosts in the brush. Some people had pin point vision and others were like "did I get shot or did I get ArmA-ed?". To expand on the prior notes of interest; MCOs have a wide variety of players from a wide variety of communities. A lot of the old school players - in this MCO and in general - will bitch, and moan, and be cranky if you either don't do something right or don't do something they are familiar with or both. I saw a lot of it. What was really great though is that they would still do whatever was asked even if they thought it was stupid and they would kill a lot of enemies while doing said task. I'm gonna break down each element from the op and how I saw them preform from my perspective. I need to make it a point that not a single infantry quad disappointed in any aspect and I would gladly play with all of these people again any day of the week. Alpha were my front runners. I arbitrarily choice them to be my man call-ons on radio because "Alpha" is just first in the NATO phonetic alphabet. Alpha did outstanding and was a great call for the front push. The squad leader sounded like - by the near end - he was either tired of me, the op, or everyone or a combination of all 3 yet still he didn't falter once. Alpha was also key in the last stand defense in that they were able to pin point a large group of enemies time after time and we were able to get in some good knocks on the V.C thanks to Alpha's spotting. We even let them spot for the Wiley Pete rounds coming down - watching yellow traces just peter out while hearing explosions in the dark is something that I'll never forget and will always be a cool experience from this. Bravo was - in my mind - the sister squad to Alpha. Both squads took to working together with Alpha quickly and effectively even at the start when they came up with the "bounding from side to side" thing down the road and covering each other. This was the squad with the S.O.G devs in it. I think the most notable point in my mind for Bravo was at night when I called upon them to go dig Delta out of a bad situation (Delta pushed out of our final defense area for some reason and got caught in air friendly fire and by V.C). Bravo did amazing pulling out Delta and didn't even - to my knowledge - pitch a fuss about being asked to dip into dark no-man's land to grab friendlies. Charlie was... interesting. I wish I could say more about them, but I don't have much. They were hard to reach on radio a lot and it sounded like the squad leader was struggling, but the brief moments I was with them they did their part. I do remember them being a key component in a mass-casualty incident in that they did well on pulling security and healing up downed people as we came upon the Lost Squad area. Charlie did struggle to keep everyone updated on their location and it got to a point to where we spent a hot minute looking for them when the platoon had gotten to the Lost Squad's location because no one could tell us where they went or what they were doing and they weren't answering on radio. We almost said "screw it, leave Charlie, unfortunately" and then someone said "oh yeah, Charlie is over here, with Alpha and Bravo" making the entire search effort pointless. Still, though, Charlie's highlight was definitely pulling their weight and assisting with a second mass-cas event at the final defense area. Delta had some really experienced players who were jaded and very, very skilled. I would pass this squad a couple times and hear the aforementioned moaning and groaning and passive aggressive "Meah, why aren't we doing this?" "Why aren't we pushing, meah". If we had any other set of players pulling heavy weapons detail I doubt this would have had as good as a run as it did. I put them on rear guard a lot and they did not fail in their duties. There was a really cool point where Delta didn't hear "hey, pack up your gear and come up with the rest of us" and my 2IC Moss ran back to physically check on them, grab them, and move them up so Delta wouldn't be eaten up by the V.C. Delta even said on long range a couple times "hey, we're about to be overrun over here", "we're being pushed hard, can we get some air cover?" I couldn't hear it in game because TFAR doesn't have this effect, but it would have had been neat to hear the sheer volume of gun fire they were experiencing through the LR to sell just how hard they were being hit. Despite all the pressure our flank never fell and that's something that I felt went underappreciated in the moment. I ended up actually giving grand compliments to the Lost Squad thinking they were Delta (because everyone looked the same!). Lost Squad I didn't have much experience with, but they did their part. I was told they didn't lose a single man, but I still haven't verified this myself. Lost Squad was neat. The squad leader was polite and professional, and the squad held their own even at the defense area. The squad leader had a hint of talking down to people especially in debrief - but if you play ArmA 3 long enough and if you have hardline opinions you will sound like that at some point even if you don't mean it. I had a misunderstanding of Lost Squad. I figured we'd have to baby sit and escort them and it unfortunately occurred to me far too late that we could just assign them as a normal squad and just go about our business . I don't know why I thought we'd have to babysit a squad that literally killed probably a platoon or more of V.C by themselves (air support helped, but Lost Squad deserves a lot of credit too). I guess in the back of my mind I thought of them more as a operation objective - which they were - and less of an actual fighting element. I attached two whole squads to protect them - Alpha and Bravo - and that wasn't really necessary.

Air, I wish I had good things to say about air, but I don't. I don't want this to go from endless praise to endless hate so I will try to balance out the negative with the positive. The opening of the op was really, really bad. We laughed and made a joke of it, but it was really frustrating. The pilots ran straight to their toys instead of finding any sort of ground leadership to ask about what we are doing, how we are doing it, and what the R.O.E is in terms of over all engagement were. Air (and I don't mean this as an insult, more as an observation) seemed like a collective group of kids that were given new toys and were more excited to just hurry up and play with their toys than pay attention to anything else happening around them. Birds (helicopters) were in the air and flying around before ground leadership even had their meeting about what was happening. My 2IC Moss had to grab the pilots one by one and awkwardly shove troops into birds and tell the pilots "hey, chucklenuts, here's what's happening". Liru designed the op to where the full platoon had to be deployed in pieces and a general theme of the op was "moving anywhere is stressful, dangerous, and inconvenient". My RTO was blamed for this - but regardless of who caused what to happen where - the helicopters neglected to comeback after dropping off the first half of the platoon and myself, Alpha, Bravo, and the platoon medic sat awkwardly back at base until the pilots decided to come back for us. A random lone bird appeared back at base and told me that - supposedly - they were ordered to do CAS. I didn't check up on this or care. I just wanted in A.O. The birds came back in a weird staggered wave and eventually all of the rest of the platoon was air lifted and dropped into A.O. Now, the pilots, are nice people (I didn't talk to the plane pilots, but I assume they were also nice). Their eventual actions were not nice. We had a mix-mash of "air's not paying attention and just turned a squad into spaghetti" and "whoops, we had a mis-call from ground because information got mixed and now Delta is on fire". LR was a nightmare. I was told from the pilot that gave me my initial taxi in to A.O that apparently someone thought it was a brilliant idea to refer to TSB's way of radios and not how the document listed how our net is supposed to be. Some pilots - according to my pilot - were on whatever TSB's normal LR radios are and not what the document said. My RTO actually got blamed a lot for mis-communication even though for the entire op he was on the correct channel. I tapped onto ground to air LR twice myself (once because my RTO had to go to the bathroom and the second time because air, according to my RTO, stopped listening to him) and can tell you air's comms were a NIGHTMARE of noise and screaming and nonsense. The first time was so-so chatter and banter that I could barely break through, but it was alright. The second time I tapped on... well, I honestly could have had better communication using smoke signals. I get people get excited and are happy to be blowing things up, but the LR net needs a little more self control especially if the platoon runs out of supplies. A platoon out of supplies dies and that's the op ending in failure. One final negative note about air is that this lot had the balls to say "oh, we felt no pressure to land or felt pressure in the sky from the enemy" in debrief, yet we couldn't keep them on the ground for more than a mili-second to unload supplies. I even had a couple infantry get hyper-pissed off because one bird that touched down didn't actually land, they tapped the ground, and then flew off neglecting us of much needed supplies. Liru set the A.I for show and made a point of saying "hey, you'll take fire, you're always taking fire, it's fine". One bird even dropped off nothing - like somehow dropped of a crate full of nothing. I don't know how that happened, but that's a feat. Good things about air to round it out in that when air got it right - they got it right. I saw a huey completely delete a hillside full of V.C and as far as I am aware the planes did pretty well on their ground strikes. We had a pilot get shot down and he joined the ranks for a minute. The pilot was a pretty chill dude and I appreciated the time we spent with him in the holes of death. I think MCO # 13 is a shining example of what is capable when everything in an op goes JUST RIGHT. The good was fun. The bad was fun. The chaos - even when frustrating - was fun. My only regret about this op is that I can't play it ever again. This was a lightning in a bottle and I know Liru will put on more show-stopping out of this planet balls-to-the-wall fun ops, but this op was one for the record books, kids.

I did, but there's a slight possibility a portion of it is corrupted unfortunately since my computer ran out of space mid op forcefully ending the recording and I had to delete files to continue. Since OBS didn't end the recording by me pressing the button and instead in an irregular fashion the first part of the op may be lost to time sadly, but I will try to somehow recover it.

Ah yes, the good ol' "Nothing happened here, it's in Cambodia" - the US 7th air force, 1968-1971 It wouldn't be a Liru op without a healthy dose of warcrimes. P.S. you shoulda given them an opportunity to "capture" some "enemy combatants" and showcase that part of the war as well lmao.

The pilots were the most unprofessional group of pilots, jesus. Putting cow in cowboy. They seemed to have had no idea what power they have and how it should be utilized, they just went nuts. Great op though and planning, it was enjoyable to watch but frustrating to see the things that went wrong.

Our Air-To-Ground net got switched mid operation, not sure by what RTO, but there was a call on net at some point to switch radio freq's. Only a few pilots heard it and as such we got disorganized from there and never recovered because half of the pilots didn't even hear anything from ground. I also distinctly remember being given 2 fire missions, marked with red smoke by a friendly, that resulted in blue-on-blue. The pilots were blamed for this despite only following the directions of the ground crew. The issue wasn't pilots or ground crews unprofessionalism. The problem was that somebody made ground and air switch nets for some reason without reason creating a recipe for disaster.

@@canadianbean6736 The "switch" was made to make the pilots follow the documentation because from what I was told (bare in mind this was a comment made by one pilot so I'm not treating it as sacrosanct fact) in passing as I was given a ride back to A.O is that the pilot corps was defaulting to a radio net that the collective pilot corps was familiar with rather than what the documentation specified. In the future as MCOs progress we can avoid all this fuss if people just follow what the documentation says.

@@PatchWorkExe From my knowledge the "switch" was made by an RTO around half way as the squads were pulling the "Lost Squad" out. My co-pilot, who was managing air-to-ground, while I managed air-to-air, informed me that someone made the call from either Bravo or Alpha if I remember correctly. It's possible that a group of whoever was on that net comprised of both air and ground elements who made that switch as a consensus. Screwing over the rest of us, either way, that's what I know of it.

@@canadianbean6736 Yes, to revert back to documentation radios, because even when I, myself, ground command, got in the radio it was like talking to a wall. Eventually I know someone got ahold of air somehow which is affirmed by your statement - hence my comment about "sticking to documentation". No one was trying to be malicious to air or ruin their op - the effort was made to re-establish some sort of communication. I really wish my footage didn't shit the bed so I could show you. I mean no ill will towards air. They did good, they did bad, I did my ranting and raving in another comment, but this was definitely not an op that had the best example of air crews being the best they can be. Air can point fingers at ground, ground can point fingers at air, but in my opinion the guys who control the big giant flying death birds shouldn't take off early like they did in the op and should find the ground officers, grab them by the collar, and make sure that everyone is on the same page about what radio is what.

Honestly man, if you ever do obtain a computer you don’t really need a god-like PC to play. While it is useful, I personally play on a low end laptop with just about 256GB and all I need to help my game run is a portable laptop fan. Hope you’ll be able to eventually enjoy the game 😉👉

@@rynozerous2755 Thanks for the info. I used to play back in the day, but haven’t had a laptop or PC in years. Hopefully, I’ll be able to play in the future. There are so many games I wanna play that are only on PC like Rust, Hell Let Loose, Post-Scriptum lol. I’ve been playing vicariously through RU-vid videos for a while now. By the time I get a PC there will be a whole lot more I’m sure. But I like Arma because of all the mods, especially DayZ.
