@@zacksax thanks, Zack! Matt is a really killer player and is actually from Dallas. His dad, now retired, was one of the most famous jazz educators in the state!
All were amazing except the new meyer. It lacked the depth and projection. The Matt Marantz piece was sooooo close to the original meyer; I had no idea. The Marantz definitely has the upper hand
Nice comparison! I think they are all in the same tonal ballpark, I’m curious which you prefer for different settings as well as the feedback you get from each mpc? (As in, which is easiest to play, more or less resistant, etc). I’ve found my best match in an alto mpc that I like in terms of ease of blowing resistance, tone and ability to carry over a section in an Aizen jazzmaster mark II, fwiw.
The Meyer NY USA is my favorite to play live, particularly with big band. The Marantz has the most warmth of tone and flexibility of tone. If I played small group acoustic I would like to use this the most. Realistically I use the vintage Meyer for everything. It doesn’t have as many tonal options, but for what it does, I think it does it the best.
All sound great, but the Marantz had the warmth and projection. Too bad he doesn't make the Bros model anymore.. I've been trying to find one to purchase. Great review!!!!
Yes, he does and It's a great mp, don't get me wrong, I played on one. But the bros has a fullness that the newer model lacks (IMHO). I've posted on SOTW in the wanted section but no luck as of yet. No hurry, my main is a vintage Meyer usa, but always regretted selling the marantz bros. Thank you for responding!
I have a Meyer Connoisseur 5, it doesn't really fit my Yas 62 and I don't have an old instrument, but it sounds interesting, try the ligature that was included with mouthpiece, it really changes the direction of the sound.
@@AcevedoDMA I think the Vandoren ligature is not the best option. It makes the sound almost square and not natural. The ligature that is included makes the sound exquisite, it seems to me that this is part of the concept of the sound of this mouthpiece.
