The Ottomans were really becoming an imperial power. Their ability to engage in multiple military engagements and some successful & some not so much reminds one of Romes' ability to wear down opponents. And the Ottomans did this time & time again. Make treaties with enemies and set European kingdoms against each other. They were using their military to conduct high-level political craft work to carve out territories for their expansion.

Venetian power and wealth came from the spice trade from India... in 1498 when the Portuguese established a sea route to India, ended the Venetian/Arabs monopoly and started their decline. The battle of Diu in 1509 made it clear, where the Portuguese fought a joint fleet of the Egyptian Mamluks, Gujarat Sultanate, Zamorin and Venetians and won in an epic fashion...it was the beginning of globalisation.
