I was injured in November 1989, while serving in Germany. I have dealt with the VA for nearly 34 years now. My experience over that time has been phenomenal. I understand that everyone hasn't had the same experience I have. I also know, from personal experience, that patients at the VA have no patience. A lot of the complaints levied against the VA could be levied against any hospital.
oh patients have no patience in your experience.. so sorry ive been waiting 2 months for my VA doctor to say i am able to donate plasma because im a idiot and was honest and marked i have ptsd.. i just needed a simple form signed by my doctor and her to fax it to the plasmacenter.. but noo.. thats too difficult.. ive taken the form there 2 times and its been months.. but i guess im not patient.. must be nice to actually receive quality care after you hurting yourself in germany.. fucking germany... jesus christ..
Veterans choose to lay their life on the line for the country some of those other homeless people have only thought of themselves all the time. From just watching my Dad who served in war and watching people of the community I can say that I think my Dad had a harder time of adjusting to everyday life that others who didn't serve. Now maybe this is a coincidense but it was my observation when I was old enough to actually note the differences.
Unfortunately this episode is not even appearing in my subscriptions feed (in case you were wondering why view counts seem so low). Last weeks episodes basically blocked out the Sun for me with how it appeared on my home page every day until I watched it today, but even though I expected this episode to pop up yesterday, I had to come to the channel page to even find it
If they made the rent affordable for people to pay the will be less homeless has they need to stop increasing the rent where people cannot pay is a lot of people that have jobs and still cannot pay the rent
One of the biggest problems we have as a culture is we have been conditioned to 'let the government do it'. Today's culture doesn't have to get their hands dirty because the government takes tax money and we blindly trust they are handling it. We need to get back to the mentality that it is our PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to care for the homeless, care for the hungry, care for the disabled. Government does nothing efficiently or effectively. "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’" -Mt 25: 35-40
I think the problem with the VA , and I am not speaking from experience, is that it is a”me” not a “we” mentality. It’s not let’s take care of our own, but how do I balance the budget and ensure that my paycheque shows up next week. It’s not a spend all of our money on vets, it’s how can I ensure that our budget gets bigger not smaller. I am curious to know what the salary is of the person in charge of the VA.
It was clear that Andy had not listened to the Veterans Row Podcast before conducting this interview and that he was uneducated when it came to Veterans' Homelessness in Los Angeles. It would have made for a much better show if he had researched and listened to the Veterans Row Podcast before conducting this interview. I was also disappointed by some of his comments regarding his opinion on the Veteran Community; his type of thinking is why problems dont get fixed.
Wow, are you serious? For the first 18 minutes as a veteran I was like come on Andy speak up bro! You sir are part of the problem not the solution. It’s ok, just thank a veteran next time you see one, shake their hand and just get on with your insignificant life
We need higher paying jobs. No single person can make it on $15 a hour. Thats like $400 a week after taxes. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is $700+ in central ohio. Thats on the low end. Most apartments are $800+ a month around here.
Man I wish you would just put a pin in it and let your guests talk. I've listened to several episodes of your podcast and watched several episodes of this series. As a former TV producer I'm pulling my hair out at your habit of talking over your guests. If you want your listeners to come back for more, shut it and let your guests talk dude.
