Hate to be a bbq snob as a texan but you’re prolly not saying much with the best barbecue in NYC since I’m sure there’s not any or much good barbecue there anyway
This guy seems like an absolute fraud. What the fuck does being Dominican have to do with him cooking food out of Texas IN BROOKLYN? NOTHING. OMG I'm the first lesbian biqueer enby bipoc superlesbian transnational japanese indian russian cooker ever of this food everyone's been cooking for 100 years!!! I'M SPECIAL SEE
He’s not just a pit master, this man is an artist! True to his core! Breaking the traditions of barbecue and bringing new flavors and experiences to the culinary world! A true pioneer! You’re on my bucket list for sure!
I’m so proud of this dude. This is my fellow NY’er. He works his ass off, he’s proud of his product, he makes it his own way. This is who I cheer for. The little guy, fighting against the big guy. There’s nothing better to me than a success story like this. I hope he gets all the success in the world. He deserves it.
It is and it shows the passion that the individuals have. I'm always intrigued with everyone's story and how they have overcome obstacles in their lives.
Here in Texas, you’ll find different kinds of Texas style BBQ depending on the creator’s background. Obviously traditional Texas style but also Mexican Texas style, Jamaican Texas style, Dominican Texas style, etc. He’s definitely doing a good job with his style of Texas BBQ.
@@lemegetatchu1989 Just along Highway 59 going from Refugio to Houston, there are maybe 50 different Bar-B-Q joints. Each unique. Each absolutely worth visiting.
Native New Yorker from Bensonhurst Brooklyn born and raised 🇮🇹💯% ive been twice to prospect park to have his bbq amazing i loved his beef ribs and pork ribs plus he's honestly just a great guy i talked with him for about 25 minutes last time i saw him so happy to see him getting the success he's worked for
Fairly recent in Prospect Park? Dying to try his food! Especially being dominican I am highly intrigued. Seems like a good guy as well. I’d love to help show support to local NYC food vendors & entrepreneurs.
The beauty of American BBQ is how there are many styles to doctoring up your meat, so it makes me happy to see good Texas style BBQ that has a hint of Dominican flair to it in NYC. Being a purist can limit you from the possibilities that a style of cooking can give you.
Without actually meeting him I know he's the real deal. His story is the same I always here from the great pitmaster's, humble, don't call themselves pitmaster. Even slightly embarrassed when others do call him a pitmaster. His ingredients, techniques and how about that nice 500 gallon offset smoker, very nice. And yes, putting in the love. For those who don't know, he needs to feed that beast of a smoker about once a hour one or two "splits" of firewood through the entire cook/night so the meat is just right. Well done sir, and well done Munchies. Everyone have a great day 🌤
Rubin, wow... Now you have me crav’in some smoked brisket and turkey. Your passion for the art of smoking meats shows. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will be looking out for you the next time I'm in the area. Keep up the great work!!!
As a South Texan: That boy is gettin it. You can see his cookery is spot on. Telltale signs: how supple is the fat; does the meat glisten; does a brisket fold over into itself when held upright. He checks all them boxes. 👍 *_TEXAS APPROVED_* Edit, PSA: All you newbies getting your grill stripes-- brine, brine, brine. Put your brisket in a cooler with 2-3 gallons of brining liquid and a 20 pound bag of ice dumped on top. Leave it for 24-36 hours. If you plan to smoke turkey ... BRINE IT. Trust me on that.
@@elijahrajpaul9189 why couldn't anyone in texas this of this? Wat? And we do use spices. Lol tell me you haven't had real Texas BBQ without telling me you haven't 🤣
@@elijahrajpaul9189 lol so you haven't had real Texas BBQ. Got it 🤣 . And I've had several kinds of BBQ ranging from your classics all the way down to Vietnamese.
What an incredible and inspirational story. This man is proving that you can turn your life around with hard work and passion. Wishing him loads of success and I hope to try his BBQ one day
Love stories like this. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. He should be able to get funding for food truck hopefully without being scrutinized for past transgressions
Cowboy Rami Malek got me craving for some of that brisket right now. And the turkey and the chicharon sound so good too. Hoping for the best for his business!
Props to this dude for creating something amazing and doing his own thing. I’m Mexican and I love cooking different foods that aren’t typical “Mexican” dishes. I’ve made French, Jamaican and even Somali dishes and I love it.
I’m Dominican, lived in queens for over 30 yrs and recently moved to Texas. I gotta go back to NYC and try this BBQ. Texas bbq is great but I gotta try it with the DR touch.
As a native Texan and hardcore barbecue connoisseur, I love seeing this. That BBQ looks just right too, which is not easy to do. I wish him all the best that life has to offer.
You have an amazing talent with bbq. I’m a new subscriber and now a fan. I was a chef for years and I respect what you do Sir. You are a blessing to New York. 🙏👍😊
This makes me want to get into the business. I have West Indian 🇯🇲 background and I love jerk chicken. I also have southern heritage. This was inspiring and his food looks sooo delicious
I Don't understand why your West Indian Heritage makes you want to do Texas barbecue but your Southern FBA Heritage didn't. This dude is doing BARBECUE. Jerk chicken is a Caribbean form of BARBECUE and we have many regional styles here. He just picked Texas because most NYC residents are immigrants so it's gimmicky. That's probably more Mississippi Style or Alabama. I hope you do start a Spot it might give you more PRIDE in your America Lineage. Maybe you could research Barbecue in the States your people come from first. Peace Sister ✌🏾
Good Lord! Yum! Congrats Reuben! Much success! A big shout out to my beloved New York (born and raised) and a bigger shout out to my Dominican peeps! Buen provecho, familia! ❤🇩🇴
I'm always biking over to wherever Bark BBQ is. They'll sell out of brisket in 90 minutes sometimes because people line up for it. I'll see Ruben at Alewife Brewery on Saturday!!!
I’m happy as hell for dude! You can tell he’s living his dream. I’m a roofer currently but a pit master(in my own mind) at heart. Would love to make a career doing something I love 1 day
It's interesting that he's really advertising his turkey, because I once heard that you can judge a great BBQ place by their smoked turkey. This place must be legit!
What an exceptional human being. A thriving business man with a great work ethic who is keeping his family roots alive through cooking. Thank you #Munchies for always bringing us the forgotten stories of people who make the world a better place to live in.
Looks great! I admire someone that uses the traditional method but create their own flavors. He’s learned the only great way to make brisket is using a stick burner not a pellet smoker. Good on you sir! One day I’ll visit NY and try out your brisket. 🤛🏼 from TX!
