I have listened to this over and over, they were still awesome in 2012 after 50 years. Yes, we miss Carl and Dennis. So glad David Marks was there, he is a Beach Boy and awesome lead guitar. Love how Don't back down sounded. This sound will live on well past when we are all gone.
America greatest band. Wish they could play together before it is to late. My wife died in November 2018. She had brain cancer but before she died she called a radio station for free Beach Boy tickets. They called me two weeks after she died and I was struggling. I had won two tickets to see them in December in Charleston. Like lots of hard times the music, the harmonies and endless summer saved me again. Thank you!
My condolences on your wifes death. They have been known to help people pull through difficult times. Music can be the remedy that is needed. I saw them after a concert getting autographs this lady told Mike that her whole house had been burglarized and she lost everything of value but the tickets to the concert he was very kind and understanding he got the road manager to get some merchandise to give to her and her children.
@@raysmith7542 the same to you there is another great song the sun ain't gonna shine anymore by the Walker brothers. That can pull you through a lot of guys in Vietnam loved that song.
@@darrenallen7754 agree. Though I am a total Beatles fanatic, it must be said that the Beach Boys were BASED on harmony singing and thus, Brian had emulated groups like the Four Freshmen. The Beatles of course had excellent singing too, but they had different roots, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Motown etc. So Frey was right, you can‘t top the BB as far as harmony singing is concerned.
Brian Wilson is one of the greatest composers of all time. U can put him up with Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven, and others and he is just as good as them. I have been a BB fan since 1964 and it is 2024. When I played high school football, we listened to the BB’s while lifting weight. My head coach played bass on one the songs. My mom fell in love the the Bb’s because of. They are a part of me. Love then
The Beach Boys were never the same after Carl died. I still miss him. Brian was never the same after Dennis died and then he lost his little brother Carl.
I have now reached the age of 70 years and I still play every day music from the Beach Boys and I get never bored of hearing this great music what ever song that may be THANK YOU BOYS
Me too & I’m pushing 75!!! I grew up on Elvis, Everly Bros., Buddy Holly, Fats Domino - & then The Beach Boys!!! I’ll never get tired of any of it!!!! 💕💕😎😎❤️❤️😊😊💖💖
They still have the BB sound….even if it takes twice as many to do what the original 5 used to do!!! The best band ever ~ man we had the coolest music in the 60s!!!! ❤️❤️😎😎💕💕🥰🥰❤️❤️😎😎💕💕
My gosh, they sound just like they did in the 1960's when these songs came out. I absolutely love the Beach Boys music and these songs, "Catch a Wave", "Hawaii", "Don't Back Down" "Surfin' Safari" Just can't get enough of their 1960's songs in particular. P.S. David Marks, I read your book. Good to read it!! I used to have a bit of a crush on you.
The Beach Boys music is Eternal American Rock n' Roll , The Fountain of Youth born in the 1960's. It rejuvenates me at my age of 58 and all of a sudden I'm 18 again! Magic Forever.
There was something special going on in Southern California in 1963. The Surf Music era, surfing, American muscle cars, pretty girls in bikinis, hamburger stands, drive in movies, Summer weather, lemonade stands, malt shops, Diners etc. The Endless Summer Phenomenon was born and great 1960's bands formed with music unlike any other era in Rock N'Roll History. Teenagers, young people, fast stylish automobiles and boom fun fun fun in the Summertime.
In early 60's we were devout Beatles & Stones fans but the BeachBoys crossed all lines.Brings back the old fashioned strict totally square society we lived and rebelled against. Believe me, the prom queens were doin the bad boys reminding me of "Be true to your school". We had to wear dresses to school & believe this no f'n birth control.Abortions were illegal. The BeachBoys bring back the sweetness of those times.Good thing times changed.I 'll always chill reminisce to my surfer boys. Their songs are forever from a short special time in history. Always good vibrations.
Never tire of listening to the BB's. Fan since 1964, saw them live in 66 and 67, amazing band, reason I started surfing and still and still doing both.
This is truly a GREAT sound - Al, Brian, David Marks, Matt Jardine, & Mike!! Four original BBs + Matt!! Hard to believe they in their ‘70s here…except Matt!!! I’ll always love the beach music!!!❤️❤️🥰🥰🌈🌈
These guys are the most kickass rockin' band ever. They are true innovators in the world of rock, and the world of rock can never repay them for all of the rock.
Gosh, David Marks is great on guitar! They’re all good here ~ even Brian…. but plz notice there at least 2 other keyboard players!! And someone else has the high voice that Brian used to have!!! ❤️
Amazing those Beach Boys sound better live than on their records and their records are spectacular so if you ever get the chance to go see him live it's worth the money. The best All American rock and roll band ever. I'm 70 years old and I still listen to those guys everyday
I still remember a Beach Boys concert I saw in Superior, Wisconsin in the late 90s. Carl was still alive. When the Beach Boys went to finish their show with the surf medley, dozens of teenagers rushed the stage. I thought I was back in the 60s. It was incredible! The band let them all up on stage to sing with them. That is Americana!
Backstage....Dave was with Dean Torrence and Surf City All Stars last yr. He saw my Telecaster in a bag with Fender in big white letters....Dave Marks says "Is that a fender" ? Hilarious, What a great guy...Dean too, stories about Jan and The Beach Boys.....Classic
I SAW THE 50TH REUNION CONCERT WHERE I LIVE AND IT WAS " FANTASTIC " ..........IT WAS FUN TO SEE THEM BRING THE OLD CLASSIC CARS INTO THE STADIUM ON THE GRASS BEFORE THE CONCERT.........A GREAT NIGHT !
The best American rock ever. No harmonies like theirs and they did them live. I've heard them many times , back then and now. Still my favorites. Brian is the genius that led the other super talented in the band. Amazing! Their music will live on and on.
I've listen to the BB for 52 (!) years now. Some of the song I've heard 1000 times. and thery are just as fresh and enjoyable now. I know of no other greater compliment
Not sure if Brian's piano was even plugged in, but it sure was good to see all of the lads together on this anniversary tour. (Kind of sad thinking about and missing Carl and Dennis, but I think they would have been proud!)
Lots of people thought The Beach Boys were a surf band. But I always considered them what we know call a doowop group. Their vocal harmonies were always so tight and with Brian then Carl doing the falsetto tenor parts they were as good as most doowop groups. Now Matt Jardine, Al's son, does the falsetto tenor parts and he's great. Bruce Johnson has been with them at least 50 years. After 57 years they are still performing and still great.
Actually, Jeff Foskett (the large guy standing to David Marks immediate right on stage) handled most of the lead and backup falsetto parts on their 2012 anniversary tour. I think he still tours part-time in Brian's backup band.
When they started out for being just kids there music was very well put together awesome harmony and awesome guitar and drum work and there still awesome
the 50th anniversary show was as good a musical history lesson as you could have ever wanted, and as good as any act could provide. the Beachboys and support were in fine voice, fine instrument (w all the licks, rarely missing a trick) carl and dennis and the original Brian forever missed , but what a show all the performers put on. if you were there in person, you know how good it was...if you missed the live show, enjoy the 50th through YT....so loved all the songs and the ones rarely performed. and Ive never danced so much and sang along so much at a live show. god bless that June night just a few yrs. ago.
I was given a front row center seat for one of these shows from a Backing Member of the Band. I will never forget the pure energy, never seen since Hawaii 1986 with our Beloved Carl.
This is absolute GENIUS...Never thought this possible. .I remember at the record Dept 1963? at Korvettes... Their first album in my hand,,,a 33 and third big Vinyl format....THIS IS THE BEACH BOYS...50 plus years later...THE US ANSWER TO THE BRITISH INVASION>>>REMEMBER I WAS THERE>JUNIOR AT COLLEGE>THIS has to be one of the finest UPBEAT concerts EVER...NO ATTITUDE>>>JUST PURE FUN & THE OUTDOORS...I feel 21 when I listen to it.
Just think guys here it is October 28 ,2021...three months from now Beach Boys history celebrates the 60th Anniversary. Even if Brian can't make it. .I think this same crew on stage should do a taped concert ,at least, of other songs that don't get enough attention. There are many!!
No group in American music history, no matter what era, can compete with The Beach Boys. 100 years from now, they will be playing Beach Boys music and asking ... "Who were the Backstreet Boys?"
The 60 as a kid side walk surfing listening to these guys till was old enough to get drivers license so I could go to beach and surf my long board 69 years old don't surf but am am still listening to these guys.
I've been a Beast Boys fan for 37 years. Their concerts have been my favorite memories while growing up. I finally found a concert that I play all the time. This show had the harmonies perfect, the mix perfect and of course the setlist was incredible.
BB were my first favourite band and despite lots of other stuff I've gotten into I always return to these guys. They always put a smile on my dial in this crazy stuffed up world.
Yes Wolfsky, Sir, I agree....Dave Marks is a wonderful guy and a great guitar player. I saw him at the reunion and he really showed up as a true Beach Boy.
Little known fact but absolutely true. Lot of talent on the above. Bruce played with Ritchie Valens, the Everly Brothers, was involved with Sandy Nelson music, The Rip Chords and, of course, Barry Manilow.
You can thank Mike for keeping the Boys going. Brian is the genius but Mike is part of the sound that even Brian admits makes the whole thing sound like the BEACH BOYS
Mike Love is a repulsive person. Biggest jerk I've ever met. He's just lucky he was related to Brian, Otherwise, he probably would've been a bus driver.
Gabriel Sepúlveda Corradini You can say the same about Carl, Dennis and Al. They were lucky enough to have Brian teach them harmony and how to sing at such a young age. It was Brian who had much love for music and had to be part of it. He pretty much formed the band. Without it Al would’ve been a dentist, And i dont know about the rest but they would be anything from musicians
Wow, they sound really good. What an amazing show! Brian should take a bow but seems a little dazed. But I know he's alright & it's so good to see him out in the world and on a stage where he belongs. What a musical explosion of hits they had back in the sixties. Lifetime fan here.
