My sister passed in Oct of 2020 from brain cancer. She LOVED the beach boys. Im her ‘11 year younger baby sis’ and she is my best friend. I dedicate every Beach boy song to her. I love you Carol Ann and I will always play music you love cause I love them with you. Always. Xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Auch mein Beileid an Dich! Auch meine Mutter liebte diesen Song sehr - ihre Lieblingssongs waren außerdem "Sloop John B." und "Help me Rhonda". Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland..............Roland.
Beach Boys, inventors of the concept album for rock and roll.....cars, girls and surfing.....the only ones that could harmonize even better than The Beatles !
He looks like he's speeding --- the way he's punishing the gum and still not missing a note...I'd have choked on my gum or spat it accidentally....cool dude !!
@@TheDejael Hi Dejael, I'm Marcia. I was 4 years old but I still remember my older brother playing this song & thats why I fell in love with them & all 60s music...
I only discovered them in my childhood (the 1980s) but I've loved this music ever since. I later discovered their late 60s/1970s music. That's my favourite
The thing that is so super-cool about this is they have that whole high school Battle of the Bands vibe going on. They run out, plug in, and play around with the knobs on the amps. It's stone cold real. No stage mixer. It's just out there. The early Beatles and Rolling Stones were like this. Plug 'n Play!
@@sirandrelefaedelinoge Sure there was. A Western Electric 22C was used a lot. Beginning in the 30s. An RCS BC-5 was another one. They could be used in a booth or planted on a console in the audience.
This was shortly after the Beatles first came to the US and they had quite a rivalry. I was in the Beatles camp, but still enjoyed the Beach Boys sound, especially since I was (am) a surfer. Brian had such an incredible voice which really made their sound. I appreciate it more now than I did then.
I turn 70 in 9 days, and I still remember clearly, the first time I saw the Beach Boys on stage as the headliners that day. The space in the concert hall at the pier' end appeared extremely full and our group of 16 to 18 ye a rs
Stee pier included the "Box Tops" as the opening act ( also quite popular in the 1969 era) that wonderfull summers' day. The Steel Pier is also known for " the Diving Horse", an act the animal rights folks would surely be disapproving of today.
* Fun, Fun, Fun (1964) Sung by The Beach Boys Songwriters : LOVE, MICHAEL / WILSON, BRIAN Well she got her daddy's car And she cruised to the hamburger stand now Seems she forgot all about the library Like she told her old man now And with the radio blasting Goes cruising just as fast as she can now And she'll have fun, fun, fun Till her daddy takes the t-bird away (Fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the t-bird away) Well the girls can't stand her 'Cause she walks, looks, and drives like an ace now (You walk like an ace now, you walk like an ace) She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race now (You look like an ace now, you look like an ace) A lotta guys try to catch her But she leads them on a wild goose chase now (You drive like an ace now, you drive like an ace) Well you knew all along That your dad was gettin' wise to you now (You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied) And since he took your set of keys You've been thinking that your fun is all through now (You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied) But you can come along with me 'Cause we gotta a lot of things to do now (You shouldn't have lied now, you shouldn't have lied) And we'll have fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the t-bird away (Fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the t-bird away) ♩♪ (( Instrumental )) ♩♪ Fade
Only musical geniuses who are ahead of their time. Hence record execs had no idea how to market Pet Sounds. Brian Wilson was way ahead of them and now Pet Sounds is renowned as a Musical masterpiece!
I met Carl Wilson at the gorge in George Washington a year before he died. My late husband built him a semi electric , Thumbs up guitar. Fond memories when the sun was setting on the Columbia river. Hi Maria
My dad and I would listen to The Beach Boys with the car windows all the way down on the motorway to the beach in the UK when I was a kid. Recently he told me that this exact song reminds him of me and I can't help but be proud of my childhood and all of the memories we have because of this band. I remember how I wrote about The Beach Boys being my favourite band in a diary when I was super young and my auntie judging me for it, but I still listen to them to this day. Thank you for all of the memories x Edit: I am only 20 years old now but this band shaped my childhood. Shoutout to my dad for being the best and bringing me up on his old music
@abbiemales5610 Yes...terrific memories for you, for sure! I too have terrific memories of this song. My daughter had just turned three years old...I was 25. W still love the Beach Boys music. Surfing in Cornwall, England....and watching the drag racing at Santa Pod...The Beach Boys stuff loud over the 'PA"!! Playing their music in the car while driving home...Brian Wilson and the guys were fans of The Four Freshmen during the late 50's and into the sixties...check them out. The Four Freshmen had their own version of Surfer Girl!!! I'm so pleased Abbie that you are a "YOUNG FAN" of the BB's...my daughter is SIXTIE TWO now...and I am EIGHTY FIVE and still kickin'!. Take care...'HI' to your Dad...he has good taste!!
Carl, born December 21st, 1946, was 15 when they cut "Surfin' Safari" and "409" on April 19th, 1962 (dates from Wikipedia). Those solos are cleanly executed, well thought out, tasty and professional. He was one of those rare players who had it early.
Brian only had to sing during the chorus and the outro. Paul McCartney had to sing songs like All My Loving from beginning to the end, while playing far more incredible basslines.
What absolutely fantastic memories. I was so lucky to be a teenager in the late 1950's to mid 60's. God, what I wouldn't give to do it all again and not change a thing.
I was born in 1960 my friend..... The Beach Boys in the sixties always remind me of the wonderful holidays I had as a child with my Mum and Dad to a place called Boscombe near Bournemouth in Dorset.... Its certain things that stick in people's minds that mean the most when we were children.... Without it sounding like I'm a miserable guy but, I wouldn't want to be a child in this day and age, it's bad enough being an adult...
@@poopingoode417 I can say two things for sure: 1) The old farts waxing nostalgic about the sixties are forgetting about all the crap that went down in that era. It was not all rosy like they portray. And the music was mostly crap back then. There was some superb music then, of course. 2) Fifty years from now, the old farts will be waxing nostalgic about the times when they were 14 to 24 years old, that is the 2010s or 2020s. They will make it sound like some kind of halcyon paradise. They will not consider all the crap that's been going on in these days. Most of the music is crap these days, although there is plenty of great music being made in this era, too.
@@gatoryak7332 thats the great thing about oldies channels. 98% of all art is crap but over time it gets curated so that only the best stuff is ever played or presented. I definitely would not like to be a child in the 60s. My grandmother had a cross burned on the lawn of the kindergarten she was working at.
I saw them dozens of times in Chicago, always ended their concerts with that song, went on for a few extra minutes with the lights flashing and rolling around the stage and out to the audience. Great times. Was backstage once also, mainly talked with Carl, may he R.I.P. American bands don't get any better then The Beach Boys!
@@scootergeorge9576 I know what outro means, JudgeJulieLit seemed to have never heard the word, so I was drawing a comparison between intro and outro, similar to the words in and out
This was part of a live broadcast that had several big name groups and singers. It was projected on a large screen in dark dance halls all over the country in black and white. The projected image looked really bad by the time it came off the phone line but just the thought that we were watching something live with thousands of people around the country was incredible for 1964. I saw it at Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City.
The Indianapolis 500 used to be broadcast in a similar way to movie theaters in the mid'-60s. I seem to remember the description said "Closed Circuit TV".
RIP the two members of The Beach Boys Dennis Wilson (December 4, 1944 - December 28, 1983), aged 39 Carl Wilson (December 21, 1946 - February 6, 1998), aged 51 You both will be remembered as legends.
Back in the day, no one would have predicted Brian would be the last surviving Wilson brother with all he went through(maybe not surprising Dennis passed young).
Such a great song... simple yet genius lyrics! Funny thing is that apart from Dennis, none of them actually looked like your classic surfer dude ‘beach boys’ at all!
@@JohnHoulgate Dennis was my favourite beach boy, he always looked like a genuine fun guy, followed by Carl...nobody on this earth can sing "God only Knows" like Carl...R.I.P....Brothers...so sadly missed...♥️♥️
These guys had the power to open another dimension, when you listen to them inevitably you start remembering some nice moment in your life. What drug can do that?
Back in around 1971 i had a friend that drove a 1956 ford, it had an eight track tape player, and he had the Beach Boys greatest hits .We wore that tape out
.....as many fans apparently dislike Mike Love, it was Mike Love who assisted and offered many lyrics and great 'hitches' to every song that 'Brian wrote' (pre pet sounds)
Here's the first hand info on the KNAK connection from her friend Becky: "Shirley Johnson England is my neighbor and a very close friend. I have heard this story from her firsthand. She did go to the library, however she didn't take the T-Bird straight back to the radio station like she was supposed to. Her dad, Howard Johnson, the owner of KNAK (a very popular radio station with the teenagers and early 20's crowd) did like the Beach Boys very much, so they came to Salt Lake fairly often and he promoted them a lot. Mr. Johnson was also on the staff at the University of Utah, so he had a very desirable parking pass on the T-Bird. I think he was on the faculty, but I can't remember for sure. That's why Shirley had the T-Bird. After she was finished with her classes she would drive to the radio station and give the T-Bird back, then take her car. She was inside the radio station around the time she got grounded from the T-Bird and the Beach Boys overheard her talking about it with someone. They asked her for the whole story. The lyrics to that song were literally written in the backseat of a car on the way to the Salt Lake Airport. I don't know why Mr. Wilson would find anything about that song inappropriate, but I guess I know Shirley and he didn't. I may not have been born yet, but I know that Shirley wasn't "that kind of girl". She loves to play pranks and have fun, but it's all good, clean fun. If it's true that she fell in love with a guy in 1964, then that would be her husband whom she has been married to for over 50 years. She thinks it's hilarious that her grandchildren think she's famous! I tell her that they are right." PS, the car the Fun Fun Fun was written in was Bill Hesterman's Cadillac convertible.
@@Phelps-1247 yea your def right and even though I know that Mike Love is pretentious, cocky asshole...hes still just as much a beach boy as any of em an he wrote the lyrics to some of their greatest songs..or at least co-wrote them... But at 78..he does look to be in the best physical shape.. While the Wilson boys were doin acid and all kinds of different substances.. Mike Love never got into drugs or excessive drinking... He was into transcendental meditation....which is a great thing...but all said and done... Mike Love is a prick 😆😆
@@davidwesson9277 Lucky you, I would have liked to go to Laurel Cannon were it was all happing music wise, also to drive along Ventura Highway and on to the Pacific Highway...wearing my hippy clothes, beads, bracelets, hats, etc...loved the southern california sound...but I live in the UK...I only got there in my dreams...🇬🇧✌️❤
Saw them before they were headliners, at Virginia Beach, Va. at a high school football field, as "opening act" for headliner group Blood Sweat andTears. Great concert before big stadiums
Mike is the best performer of all of them and helped Brian write a lot of his songs. Mike also wrote the great song, Kokomo Beach, when Brian was tying himself up into knots - I love Brian Wilson, though, of course. A true genius·
What an absolutely brilliant group the were.Still love listening to them, such fun music and you can't sit still when they are on.Best if all is how on earth did they squeeze into those pants????doesn't leave much to the imagination...I remember most blokes wore them back in those days...bring them back yyyyeeeeaaaayy.
