a documentary of sorts on the making of Stars & Stripes Volume 1 (everyone's favourite album, naturally) uploaded per request because the other copy on youtube isn't in the most stellar of conditions. enjoy (?)
Really nice to see this Stars & Stripes Country music of Beach Boys songs. Wonderful to see most everyone together. I especially loved seeing CARL WILSON. What a lovely singer, musician and awesome human being. Rest-in-heavenly Peace. 💫
It takes works like this to remind us how incredibly wonderful the Beach Boys music is. I love this format of having modern day artists singing the great music of one of America's most loved group's songs with the original artists singing their beautiful background vocals. I hope to see more of this before we lose our icons to history. I love them. Always have. Always will!
This was in the post Grunge/nu metal era of the mid 90s when Pop was embracing real instruments and rock n roll again, AND Gen X we're finally realizing how badass Pet Sounds really was. Unfortunately The Beach Boys ignored the pulse of the youth and instead went AC format with this shit. Carl WHY did you walk away from the Paley sessions ??? For BAYWATCH and HOME IMPROVEMENT??? 🙄
He was revered amongst other great vocalists in contemporary music for the quality and emotive vocals. He was a bloody good guitarist too. Mix that with the sense of 'harmonic flow' that ALL the Wilson brothers had (to me -thats the Beach Boys 'sound'), and his contribution to contemporary music and the Beach Boys was unique, vital, and astonishing. 👌
I purchased this album on CD, in '96, as i turned 50 y/o. ----------wow, 50 ! Seems so young now . ------At that time, I didn't know that Carl Wilson was suffering from his years of smoking , with lung cancer, fully diagnosed in early '97. -------I was heartbroken ; he has always been my favorite member of the group. By far. ----------MJL, 76 y/o
Not gonna lie, the album outtakes included in this video (Sail On Sailor, In My Room) are great. Against all odds I now wish there was a Stars & Stripes Vol. 2. Anyway, here's to hoping that a high quality version of the "Our Team" documentary (aka the making of M.I.U. Album) finds it way out there.
Possibly the most moving and emotional composition of word & note ever written. Brian Wilson has musically reached one of the deepest, saddest and loneliest depths of a universal experience of the human soul- the end of the.joy of a puppy-love romance -the loss of innocence-The loss of love. This is the consummate masterpiece of a deeply complex, revealingly emotional andd unparalleled genius. The recapitalization of this composition’s overall theme of the anguish, loneliness and the fear of shedding the protectIve skin of adolescence and childhood protectiveness and venturing into the frightening & unknowable future is so artistically captured in the powerful symbolism in the last element of this unforgettable musical accomplishment: The speeding train of his youth blasts loudly, schearingly and frighteningly from his past and into the bleak unknowable future. A foreboding, angry, barnyard dog with a with a continuous, unnerving and piercing bark leaves your soul bare, bleak & vanquished.
This collaboration with all of these artists with various musical styles and talents should be submitted and accepted by the Library of Congress. This particular body of work from the Beach boy's is a National treasure!
Is there anything that adding The Beach Boys to doesn’t sound perfect? Thanks guys for sharing your gifts with us. You brought us so much joy. We are blessed.
Damn I love the Willie version & the little deuce coupe! Very cool. And Wow - how exciting to sing w The Beach Boys! Omg. What a dream that would’ve been. Goes to show ya - enjoy the moments while you have them. Beach Boys are gone but the Music will always BE.
@@qasanobaI meant all original members and such…with carl & dennis being gone is to say my meaning, but I know theres an ongoing version of at least 1 or 2 members from the starters, pretty much. Anything less than Brian Wilson though IMO - well hey… its not The Beach Boys per se… just a slight version, so to speak.
Does anyone know who the lady is doing the voice-over? (The end-credits don't mention her). I'm curious because it strikes me as really odd that the producers/directors/creators chose a UK accent for a VERY american subject. (As Mike points out, ha ha!) :-)
That's Sylvie Simmons, a music journalist, originally from London but now living in the States. She wrote, among many others, the wonderful I'm Your Man about Leonard Cohen. On the DVD her comments are an extra, rather than in the body of the film.
My favourite songs off this album are 'Caroline, No' and 'Don't worry Baby'. Timothy B. Schmit and Lorrie Morgan were perfection in their wonderful covers.
I have NO earthly idea why Tammy's gorgeous rendition of " In My Room" was not on the CD. it is hauntingly beautiful, especially knowing her life was coming to the end of her life. . The woman lived enough for 100 lives. And her interpretation is unforgettable. maybe there were contractual issues ??? Just guessing. ----------MJL 76 y/o
The album was interesting also out of their element but the back up singing by the boys speaks to their greatness as a harmony group unsurpassed in pop music.
The rythum beat is appalling on little duce coop. .why didn't some say something.....yes almost as bad as my spelling. And sail on sailor .. dreadfull.....
Couple decent covers in there but the rest is just horrible over produced glossy 90s country crap. Like the Beatles and Stones, the Beach Boys music is better left alone. Except for David Lee Roth.
On the whole I agree with that. Even the Beatles (McCartney) admitted they couldnt do what they did, because of the harmonic nature of their music (he talked about Paperback writer being their 'sortof' attempt at a BBoys inspired song, but was dismissive of their ability to compete in the realm of harmony). Theres a few artists that can cover some BBoys music, (look at Brian Wilsons band), and I think (maybe Jazz influenced artists) can deliver decent variations on some of it. Except for David Lee Roth 😊
