The beast of Raseiniai
The KV-1 and KV-2 tanks were very good machines for their time. German machines exceeded in fire capacity (76.2 and 152.2 mm cannons) and armor. Several specific cases are known from the initial battles of Operation Barbarossa, when a small group or even a single machine detained the entire German division in advance! Some Russian tank aces also served on KV machines (but mostly KV-1). With a suitably chosen terrain, thanks to a good cannon and the strength of the armor, the KV was able to destroy even a much larger enemy. It is possible to meet a similar style of fighting with the Germans at the end of the war in Europe, when a suitably placed Tiger or Panther was able to destroy enormous numbers of enemies.
An example of a fierce, brave and yet futile battle KV-2 of the Soviet Second Tank Division is the battle of the settlement Raseiniai (Расейняй / Rasyeinyia) on June 23 - 25, 1941. His brave crew managed to block the advance of units of the 6th Panzer Division for two days in June 1941 in Lithuania.
My opinion on this battle. I described the event according to several sources. According to sources, I am 80% sure that it was a KV 2 tank and 20% that it was a KV 1. Six crew members were mentioned in all sources, which corresponds more to the KV 2 tank.Then fight with 50mm cannons. two totally destroyed machines after a direct hit and two damaged after a hit between them. And then they remained buried. In my opinion, this can only happen thanks to the 152mm cannon.
The first fight with the 88mm FlaK cannon. The Russian tank fired only once. The heavy 152mm grenade explodes two meters in front of the upcoming FlaK. The blast literally shattered her into small pieces.
In the photos in the video we see the same tank for which other things were written. Such as that the tank is located near Lvov or near Raseinai or near Kiev. So I added them only because the damage to the tank corresponds to the description of the fighting for the settlements of Raisenai.
