A true pioneer among roller coasters. This broke the mold of the wooden coasters that existed at the time, and did something rarely, if ever, seen up to that point. And Kings Island built the entire thing in-house. Without The Beast, we wouldn't have great rides like The Voyage today. The Beast deserves respect.
Nah mean streak came out around that time and mean streaks way better.... Well, it WAS way better. Now Steel Vengeance totally annihilates this thing lol top speed 48mph? Maybe? Hahahhaa
@@eatassonthefirstdatedude, The Beast is a coaster of a different time trying to accomplish a different thrill experience with different technology compared to Steel Vengeance; both are the best at what they're trying to do. The Mean Streak does not make use of its design like the other two, simply put. I'm glad ya liked Mean Streak but I hope your appreciation for The Beast improves
Rode this yesterday 8 times and must admit after being at so many theme parks the beast still could be my all time favorite. There are a few things videos will never show. 1. The horrendous sound the beast makes when going through the tunnels. When leaving the first tunnel the beast screams louder as you exit. 2. The darkness of the tunnels. Cameras brighten them up but they are pretty dark even in the day. 3. Night time riding when it’s completely dark in the woods. All that to say, if you want a different ride experience, do the very front, the very back (seat 18) for the roughest ride, or seat 17 which is way smoother than 18 but still has the bite of the back. Reason for this is because there are 3 rows to a car and the middle one has no wheels which makes it smoother (a lot). Enjoy!
Did they fix it? When I went to ride it two years ago it was one of the most unbearable experiences I think I've ever had while riding a coaster. My friend and I were thrashed around, our heads nearly collided at one point. It literally hurt to ride the ride at nearly all times, especially on the straightaways where it not only shook you from side to side, but bounced you up and down at the same time, which sucked because I find the layout and setting to be awesome. Once we got off the ride, and the ride operators asked how it went, people were literally booing and asking to get off the ride asap. I've never seen that before on any of the coasters I had ridden, and I've ridden some pretty rough rides.
@@DashProd. At Kings Island, there's The Beast, The Bat, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Great Pumpkin Coaster, and Woodstock Express. Woodstock Express has rather small seats which may be uncomfortable for larger riders.
@@travisvanalst4698 been on 80+. Bunch in the top 100 world ranking (following Captain Coaster's ranking). Still no element that beats that euphoric feel. Though Tatsu's pretzel loop is great too. Beast isn't my fav coaster by a longshot, but that element, my goodness.
After the 3rd tunnel there should add a 1,000 ft. drop that would be cool. A 1,000 ft. drop into a dark tunnel would be peacefully delicious. Also maybe put a hologram of what looks to be like a concrete wall after the 1,000 ft. drop into the tunnel. Also put a flying glass aquarium with alligators in it that follows you above your head while your riding because it's safe
It feels like you’re flying a fighter jet, driving a NASCAR, getting tossed around inside a barrel, while almost getting your arms cut off by the roof. All of which makes for one of the best roller coasters in the world.
I agree, one of the most INSANE experiences I've ever had in those two tunnels, I always held my ears, i let off for a second in one and it sounded like a shotgun blast lol and jerks your head back and fourth, I've heard them say it can hit 70 MPH in the rain.
Lol every timeI get on it all I here is “Lean Left!” When I first road it I was so confused until that point where I refused to lean and left feeling like I got beat up by Mike Tyson. Classic coaster for sure but idk if its worth it now lol. I mean vortex was rough the last few years too, instant headache
i rode the beast for the first time yesterday and loved it! if i was a little more local i would love to go at night and ride!! yesterday was my first time going to kings island and i loved the whole trip and can’t wait to go back!
lol you guys must have literally never gone anywhere besides Kings island. Its so incredibly outrageously absurdly stupid to even call this a top 20 coaster, let alone number 1, that you guys are just clearly speaking from 0 experience at all. It has next to no g-forces at all, 50% of the ride is literally just going straight like a fucking railroad more than a roller coaster, its not intense, not scary, not exciting except the 20 seconds you spend in that double helix, but even then the speed just isn't that high and the turn just isn't that sharp. Its just brisk and a fun little trip. It wouldn't even be a top 10 coaster at Cedar Point or Six Flags Magic Mountain. This thing is also brutally uncomfortable like most older Wooden Coasters that have now been demolished to replace them with something more comfortable. Brutal neck strain does not equal exciting forces, just pain. Roller coasters are one area of development that have unquestionably, conclusively, factually gotten better and better over the years. COmparing some old Relic like the Beast to modern coasters like Steel Vengeance is just ridiculous - They've learned a lot about how to pack in thrills since building The Beast.
@@KappaCow I never got the chance to ride it, I was too scared, I also don’t understand why they tore it down, Orion and vortex are no where near each other
@@tomatotwin_ It was actually super rough, it forces you to bang your ears against the constraints and my ears were always in pain after each ride lol, but I'm not sure why they tore it down either, either it was getting old, or it was just too rough. The loops were cool though
A thing of beauty. I've always loved this coaster, and despite not being my favorite coaster at the park I will say that the Beast is the best pure wooden (non-RMC or other hybrid) coaster in the world. Long live this awe-striking quaking monster of a ride.
Absolutely love this coaster! It's even better once it gets dark. You're just flying through the darkness and the length is great! My favorite at King's Island!
The Beast was my first "big kid" coaster back in the 90s. Scared the absolute hell out of me then, but it quickly became one of my favorite coasters of all time, and certainly my favorite wooden coaster. I love that I can *smell* the coaster just by watching this video. I live on the other end of the country now, but I hope I can come and visit someday soon.
If you ever have a chance to ride The Beast, do it. I’m usually terrified of bigger rollercoasters but I went on this ride when I went to KI. Did not regret it at all! Easily one of my favorite theme park experiences.
You are very right. My friends attempted to get me on the diamondback, but I didn’t no matter what they said. They lied to me and told me the beast was a small easy one. First time I’ve ever been thankful that someone lied to me.
When I first went to Kings Island, back in 2001 or 2002 _(can't remember,)_ my first and last rides that day were the Beastie and the Son of Beast. It took 20-odd years for me to finally go ahead and try it, but I finally rode The Beast. _Holy Hell, what a coaster!_
The Beast is WICKED FAST, has two steep climbs and drops that make it feel like two back-to-back rides, and is even more fun if you ride during different times of the day. Hopping on after the sun goes down? The covered tunnels you'll fly through will be even more disorienting and fantastically-intense.
I fell in love with this coaster during my first visit to Kings Island in late summer 2023. My main goal was to ride the Giga, but I ended liking this old beast the most. Night rides are truly magical.
My first coaster ride ever at 8 years old the summer after it opened in 1979. Rode with my dad who convinced me not to cry. Forever my favorite. Wish the sound hadn't been muted in the video. The rattles are madness in the tunnels.
I don't ride most roller coasters anymore, but I rode this as a kid and it was the best!! My dad got motion sickness but loved roller coasters, and he was fine if he sat in the front seat. So we waited for the front car and had a blast every time. This would have been in the mid-80s. I loved everything about this roller coaster! Great memories!!
Nothing will ever beat the roar of the beast. All these years later and it’s still the best ride at the park. And that says something because kings island has amazing rides.
has this been re-tracked. quite literally the smoothest video footage I have seen in years. I rode this all through my childhood and Im not seeing any bumping, sided to side action etc. great job to videographer!
Not sure when this footage was taken, probably in the off season due to Vortex being gone- however I rode The Beast two days ago towards the back and it was as rough as its ever been! Still my favorite Ride of all time no question!
My answer to your comment is hell no, sir. I went 4 days ago to Kings Island. This coaster was the second most uncomfortable coaster in the park. Behind flight of Fear which has those thigh-crushing restraints. I am 5'10- 135lbs and it was hell. Very very uncomfortable and rough. It needs to be re-tracked soon. Or at least in the tunnels. The tunnels induced actual pain for me. Great coaster but it needs to be refurbished.
@@colescott3969 interesting, I'm 6'3" and maybe 170lbs soaking wet- so all skin and bones, and FoF doesn't bother me at all for some reason 🤷♂️ The Beast however is definitely showing its age, and that's coming from someone who considers it my favorite ride ever. Maybe time for an RMC conversion? 🤔 That'd be bonkers, if it kept the length but threw in all the crazy elements RMC does along the way, one can dream..
@@DuecePiece I just went today and 3 times and I love this ride Orion is too smooth for me because it’s just love the bumpiness and how scary it is in the tunnels
Got to go to Kings Island and ride this 8 times this past weekend. 3 of which were night rides. Had been waiting to go here and ride the Beast for 25 years or so. What an amazing experience. I will never forget it. The Beast and Kings Island are epic!
I often hear or read complaints about how The Beast is such a rough ride. If I may point a couple of things out: First - it's a ROLLER COASTER!!! Second - it's a WOODEN roller coaster!! Third - its 44 years old!! and Fourth - it ain't called The Beast because it's a smooth, quiet Ferris wheel-type of ride (did I mention that IT'S A ROLLER COASTER?!?). Any time I'm at King's Island, I don't leave the park without riding it at least once. I love it now just as much as I did in 1978, the first time I rode it, when I was 12 years old. And King's Island, I salute you for keeping it for almost a half century; it puts a big, stupid grin on my face every time I ride it, and I thank you for introducing it to us all. Because - class? - ITS A ROLLER COASTER!!! And one of the best ever...
I plan to visit King's Island next season, as I've never been there. I'm a little closer to Cedar Point so I've always just gone there. It appears K.I. has a very comparable set of coasters. I've also heard The Beast is an amazing night ride. I'll be sure to check it out.
Lol I agree with your points and I'm sure many people are comparing it to Mystic Timbers which is very smooth. I personally didn't find The Beast very rough when I first rode it back in 2019. My wife really enjoyed it too. Sure it's bumpy in some spots like some of the higher speed turns but I've ridden MUCH rougher woodies that are also inferior rides. The Beast was built during a different era of roller coaster technology and it was completely designed and built by Kings Island in house! The imperfections give the ride a lot of character and the layout is just so different from anything else out there. That second drop into the helix is pretty intimidating! The way you keep gaining speed into that small tunnel is crazy! KI just announced they're refurbishing about 2000 feet of track on The Beast this winter so I'll be looking forward to ridiging it again in the near future to see how it compares.
OMG l love those wooden rollercoasters. I marvel at the thought of how it took to make them, the time, effort, and the people who designed it. Just love it
People can fight me on this but this has to be my favorite ride here. It has a stunning setting dashing through the tunnels and forest and that double helix at the end always gets me due to its intensity! Wonderful ride.
Even now, a fantastic ride. Rides like the Voyage at Holiday world and so much more wouldn’t have existed without this pioneer of a wooden coaster. And King island built it all by themselves. The true wooden coaster that broke the standard of making those simple out and backs. Great ride even now
3:42 let me just say I absolutely love this part of the ride. This is the reason I rode it twice the other day but have ridden it several times now. That small little hole that you’re barreling towards does not at all seem big enough, and I absolutely love the terror I feel each time I’m heading straight for it.
I rode the beast for the first time today(technically yesterday?). My friend and I waited in line for about 45 minutes (honestly not bad considering it was Saturday.) and let me tell you it was worth it. I was nervous because everyone says the beast is the worst about rocking you around and stuff. But it wasn’t that bad, especially since we asked to sit near the back. (Lane 13) It was so much fun though I will definitely be riding it every time I go now.
I worked at an amusement park in the late 80's and we had a simulation ride called the SR2 that had this ride as the movie. This brings back memories as I've never ridden the ride, but I've seen it similarly to this but a bit grainier and with motion.
Woah. It looks so strange without the Vortex. I rode Orion a couple times yesterday. Day and night. Last car of train. The G forces going up the hills were like blasting off into space. The banks were the same way. I rather Orion been a floorless launcher with inversions. Or a flying coaster like Tatsu where the seats tuck instead of lay back like FireHawk. Im looking forward to October riding the Beast. Its still being worked on.
I have been on many wooden roller coasters and what makes them exciting is the fear that they're going to go off the rails along with the rumbling and clanking sounds.
I want to ride this one more time. We frequented KI yearly. Used to have a giant slide. When the Beast was finished, ready to go it was killer! That double helix? WHOA! My husband didn't do coasters like ever. The Beast was his first. He screamed like a girl and got back in line to do it again. I just need one last hurrah, as we are in our 60's Now. The Beast and a slice of pizza. Good times.
Rode it for the first time in my life last week.. we live about 2 miles from Kings Island, my experience was really smooth.. they say wood roller coasters can vary from day to day
Does anyone remember the moving simulator type rides they would place in shopping malls/carnivals back in the mid to late 80's (I was 10 in 1989) They always featured "the Beast" as an option. They would close the door, then air would start blowing on everyone when the thing tilted to go downhill 😂 please reply if you remember!
@@unrequited8200 yes but I Heard it's not a full retrack, only selective retracking on select rougher parts. It would be accompanied by a reworking of the current structure in some parts of the ride. M'y assumption from this is that this would allow Them to remove some trims but that is yet to be confirmed
I haven’t ridden this in probably 15 years so I decided to watch this out of curiosity. I’m kind of amazed how I can still recognize different parts of the ride.
Gotta say I liked the ride better before it got renovated, but I do like how it is smoother but I feel like it got shorter or that could just be because the tracks got smoother and less bumpy and jerky. Still a great ride and one of my all time favorites, nothing could change that!
Going on The Beast is one of the roller coasters that I want to go on my bucket list where it is a longer wooden roller coaster that goes through the woods and also has a R.L. Stine book of it as a haunted roller coaster.
Mark my words, I just rode this for maybe that 110-120th time in my life today, it’s gotten way worse over every visit, and today was the worst, I have a strong feeling it’s not gonna be rideable but 2025
