The Beatles from 1964 to The Fab Four at the Paramount Theater

I Photographed the Beatles on August 23, 1964 at the Hollywood Bowl. Now it's Dejavu time as I recently did some videography of the Fab Four Beatles tribute band at the Paramount Theater in Denver Colorado. They don't make theaters like this anymore. It's a beautiful place inside.
An introduction by me and my original still photos I took of the Beatles are inside the video. Also some footage taken in Black & White at the Hollywood Bowl on August 23, 1964 is included.
Part of this video was shot in 4K, the rest in HD 1080. Video was shot using a Nikon D500 camera. This was a first time using this camera to shoot 4K video. It was also shot without using a tripod.

I would add it takes great musicianship to reproduce studio albums that were never intended to be performed live & these guys pretty much nail it. Their attention to detail is absolute & audience interaction is a joy to behold. Big shout out to the Fab Four - come to the UK guys & discover a whole new audience here, including me!

My brother met the Beatles in Cedar City, back in the 60’s, one night late as they were passing through , since it was the main road back then. Loved their music, still do, awesome tribute band.

Never lived the real Beatles experience (im 42) but when i saw those guys a couple of years ago with Gavin (George) and all the rest performed live i thought, F*** this coul be a time machine and im in the 60s watching the band. The Fab Four is the best beatles tribute band in the whole universe (to me). Thanks a lot for this one, Jerry you did a great job and your Beatles pics are awesome, a treasure. Thanks again, Cheers!

I just hope these guys stay together. I've been a fan of the Beatles my whole life...never saw them in person, but used to watch them on Ed Sullivan. I'm 66 now, I was 12 in '64....saw the Fab Four in Vegas a couple of years ago with my brother at Planet Hollywood. Fabulous!!!

These guys are great! My wife who sat in the audience said she felt like she was 16 again after watching the show. I was 19 when I photographed the Beatles and I am 75 now in 2020.

Excatly. There are other performances with the in-between banter after each song edited out. That adds to the 3xperience

Mr. Long, don't know how I missed this video...thank you so much...I am such a fan of the fab four...been to several concerts...not only are they very talented they are caring lads...We have a special page on fb from the fans...I was 10 when I sat in front of TV watching the Ed Sullivan...I also had a fan club and would get lots of materials...Hope u continue to post videos of the FabFour...they make me feel young again...they don't come south too much but I'll be there when they do...thx for sharing this..I would like to post this on our TFF fb page...

My position to do the video was from a ledge on the balcony. As I didn't bring a tripod I just set my camera down on the ledge which was just about one foot wide. I started on the right side of the balcony first and later moved to the left side of the balcony.

Hello Jerry, you are indeed a very lucky man to have got so close up & personal with the guys back in 64, a full 4 years before I was born! Great pictures along with cherished memories I'd imagine. We'll never see anything like The Beatles again & hats off to the Fab Four for giving all us slightly younger ones a taste of the fun & magic of those amazing times!

Yes Rob it was an experience that I have never forgotten. I was sitting 3 feet in front of them at the press conference, I learned one thing a long time ago: arrive early and you will get the best spots to take photographs. I was standing on the left side of the stage at the Hollywood Bowl during their performance to take my photographs. The highest price tickets that night were $7.50. My vantage point was much closer than the closest front row seating. The Fab Four are truly amazing in that they sound very much just like the Beatles!

It is a great privilage to speak to your good self & I'm still trying to get my head around what it must have been like to be within touching distance of those guys! I'm really interested in your comparative comments with the Fab Four. You would obviously know how their sounds compare & yes I think the FF do a great job with skill, attention to detail & great crowd interaction. I've been a huge Beatles fan for +40 years but have only communicated with less than a handful of people who've been up close with them so to speak. Ryan, yes it was an amazing experience! My photos that I took led to a job with the KRLA Beat where I got to meet and photograph many other great musicians of the time. One of my first assignments was to photograph the Rolling Stones in their hotel room and at two other concerts. I became friends with them and Brian Jones let me play his teardrop shaped VOX guitar backstage at one of their concerts.

Jerry Long unbelievable! And to not only meet the late Brian Jones but to play that famous Teardrop guitar too, isn't it hard to believe the stones are still performing and touring in 2018! You should write a book about all the famous you have met and include your photos in there, it would certainly be a successful seller Jerry.

Jerry you have provided a piece of history that is much appreciated. Many thanks for that. I have been to the Bowl numerous times and wonder how it must have been in '64 and I've seen the FabFour many times which preserves and acts as a living memory. Can this go on for another 50 years?

I think that the Hollywood Bowl will be a fixture in Hollywood for a very long time to come. It has undergone some changes over the years, but I will never forget that night that I stood on the left hand side of the stage taking my photos of the Beatles.

They have recorded christmas albums /cds. Beatle songs re worked as christmas songs. Just awesome. Best Beatles tribute band HANDS DOWN

Fab Four tickets go for $60 to $215. The Beatles tickets at Hollywood Bowl in 1964 went for $3.50 to $7.00... and in today's Dollars about $30 to $70. Am I missing anything?

Thanks, Mr. Long I really love the Beatles. I remember seeing them on the Ed Sullivan Show when I was a kid. Recently found out about the Tribute bands. These guys are great. The one I saw was at Disneyland their name is Hard Days Night they are great too. Do you sell your photos if you do I would love one autographed by you? Thanks your one of the lucky ones to have seen the real deal.

1:10:06 Why does Gavin change his Lucy guitar to his telecaster guitar? That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen Gavin do in A Fab Four concert. I mean does Gavin usually do that in a Fab Four concert? However it was still a little weird that Gavin changed Guitars from the Lucy to the Telecaster.

1. That's not a Telecaster, that's a Rocky Strat that he used in the 1967 era. Please do some research. 2. He broke a string on the Lucy so he needed another functional guitar to finish the set. You really know nothing about guitars do you?
