One of the best songs by the early Beatles, Jayy. The Fab Four could rock you, they could court you, they could make you laugh, and they could make you cry. There was never a band like the Beatles before, nor will there ever be another group like them again.

This is the first song of their’s that they heard on the radio. They had to pull over to listen & celebrate. Their first hit!!

Linda - I appreciate your enthusiasm for this song... but your info is incorrect. Their first single ("Love Me Do"/"P.S. I Love You" came out in October of 1962 and went tp #17 on the UK charts. That was the first song of theirs that they heard on the radio. Their second single ("Please Please Me"/"Ask Me Why") came out in January of 1963 and went to #1 on two of the three UK charts. That was the second record of theirs they heard on the radio. Their first album was released on March 22, 1963... and many of those songs were heard on the radio. The album went to #1 and stayed there for 30 weeks. Their third single ("From Me To You"/"Thank You Girl") was released on April 11, 1963... and it went to #1 and stayed at the top for 7 weeks. It was a huge hit for them - but it was not the first record of theirs that they heard on the radio.

I did too, but I was 16/17 in late 1963 when "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was released in the U.S, and turned 17 in March of 1964, and I am STILL a "diehard fan" today.

Paul has stated many times the Gm chord (the minor 5 chord in the key of C) which introduces both bridges on the word 'arms) (" got ARMS that long to hold you) was a serious step forward in his and Johns young songwriting career. Note how the first bridge is sung in unison till the final line (keep you satisfied) where as the 2nd bridge is sung in harmony throughout the bridge. This technique is duplicated right down to the minor 5 chord (this time a Dm in the key of G ) on the 2 bridges (1st in unison / 2nd in harmony) in the culture changing mega hit I Want To Hold Your Hand. (And when I touch you I feel happy inside) Hope you keep the Beatles Train chugging down the tracks JAYY!! Its been a great ride !! RNB

The Beatles first became popular back then I was too young to be interested in them but I remember going down to Hollywood someplace at our parents left me and my sister in the back of the station wagon and we’re looking at the back in the car in back of us a young kid came out with his mom and he had on a Beatle wig we thought that was so unique and pretty funny too

This is very early Beatles, when John and Paul were writing songs together. It wouldn't be long before they'd be (mostly) writing their own songs with little - or no - input from the other person. Writing together or solo, Lennon and McCartney were phenomenal talents.
