Yes, but the original question was: "...in response to changing tastes?" The Beatles largely (not completely) CREATED the changing tastes, and, as Paul said "nothing drastic, not singing in front of a big band" (and I think John said, "we won't be singing trail music". What came out of that question too was the surprise in the interviewer to hear that they mainly played their style of music for the love of it - the interviewer in a very surprised tone said, "What? Not for money?" To which Lennon replied: "we were playing our music for 5 years for very little money before we made it."
EXACTLY! The REAL Paul would NEVER be ST PEPPER! This interview is very telling that Paul this Paul was no more by Dec 1966. The imposter Williams Shepard...is a disgusting LIAR!
DIRGES in the DARK they didn't expected to produce the Sgt.Peppers,MMT,White album........They were still touring at this time until they got tired, exhausted and stop touring for good reason, as what paul said "how can we improved if we can't hear ourselves performing?" And that's how they started experimenting in the studio, creating some unique styles of sounds.
I'm actually quite impressed with Jimmy Nichol. He could have just sat there and said nothing but he joined in and did quite well with their vibe. I wish things had turned out better for him afterwards.
The Beatles are in another room. So the audience can’t see them. At the end a girl asks: ‘When do they start playing, this takes too much time.’ The playbackperformance was a mess. A lot of dancing teenagers on stage and security is trying to remove them. At they end you can see only Jimmie playing the drums. Paul, Ringo and John are lost in the crowd.
This is a fine video for posterity with Jimmy Nichol filling in for Ringo while he was ill. It had to be very uncomfortable for him during this interview, since he knew he would only be a "Beatle" temporary and really could not chime in as he may have wished. It had to be elating and frustrating to be with such a fantastic band for a short time and to quickly fade into obscurity thereafter.
Yes...but i think like Krish D said....it was exaggerated too much. I think he was just trying too hard to fit in with the guys. Which I would not even have thought to imagine to do...if I was in his position.
Please with the ugly comments about Jimmy N.... the cat was sittin for Ringo while he had his tonsils dealt with... Jimmy N was under the brian epstein umbrella and knew the tunes...so he got selected.....very entertaining stuff, as always with the beatles, ALWAYS top shelf!
+Brian Grant Ya, lets see how some of these keyboard warriors would perform @ 22 years old, on tv, sitting with a popular rock band, answering questions.
@@luzvaldizan2690 oh stop it. He was just doing a play on words like he always did. Would you call him dyslexic since he once told a reporter his name is Eric as a joke?
Poor Jimmy... this would have had to be the strangest experience a person could have. To be a tagalong/faux member of the biggest band in history and sort of experience the phenomenon from the inside for a matter of days, but to know that it has nothing to do with you and that you will be out of it again in no time. It's very uncomfortable for me to watch. It would be both an amazing opportunity and a cruel trick of fate at the same time.
Andres Rivera Paul's first wife Linda died of breast cancer in 1998. So Paul found Heather Mills and divorced (for good reason) and in 2012 or 14, he married Nancy Shevell and is with her ever since.
Excellent question by the girl @ 5:00. Macca and Lennon were wondering what Nichol's reply was going to be. That, in itself, makes the whole video worth watching!
Paul 11:15: "we wouldnt do something drastic like Big Band because we dont enjoy that kiind of music". About 2 years later he wrote "Got to get you into my Life" and I´m glad the Beatles seemed to have changed their minds on Big Band sound.
Jimmy's laughter and table pounding reminds me of a co-worker of mine who suffered from Tourette syndrome. When he talked he would sometimes have that wide open mouth and do a few hand and arm twitching.
Jimmy Nichol looked like he had quite a sense of humor. I loved that laugh after Lennon said he bought his wife for 50 pounds in Nairobi. Pete Best lacked a sense of humor which is why Ringo eventually got the nod from the others.
Visually Pete just looked totally out of place among the other 3 members. Pete had naturally curly hair and couldn't sport the moptop hairdo. The whole "Beatle look" for the band would have been ruined.
Undead Nightorc Yeah, but I think he was also a very serious person and not a funny guy which wouldn't have meshed well with the Beatles image. Part of the Beatles success was due to their clowning.
Dan Michaels Ringo got the "nod" from the others because they had an amazing session together in Hamburg and it probably just felt right, can't really blame that solely on Pete's lack of humour.
Unlike former drummer Pete Best, the Beatles actually had nothing but good things to say about Jimmy. He himself says that the noys were so good to him and thats why he's never attempted to capitalize on his brief tender with the biggest band of all time. The Beatles never forgot Jimmy and the Sgt. Pepper song, "Getting Better" was inspired by him.
The original Dutch question was actually “outside of, or in England”. I wonder if they might have named some American artist when asked the question that way.
*I kinda' feel sorry for Jimmy, that last photo at an airport waiting for the plane to fly home, and no one else there* ( *I don't have enough of whatever it is Starkey has, but if the other 'Three' had gone on tour without me and someone sitting in my place playing 'Live'...that would've been the 'end' for me* ) *I 'd tell the others very quietly when they came home "I'm sorry but I'm leaving because my heart isn't in it anymore and I just can't play ...just tell people my being ill has left me unable to play anymore and let it go at that...don't worry, there are plenty of good drummers around and I won't be playing with anyone else for a couple of years, so no one will know anything's wrong"* ) *I would never play as a 'Beatle' again...ever*
I know Jimmy is getting a lot of hate, but every time he speaks it makes me cringe. John was actually quite nice to him, a couple times during this you can tell he tries to include him subtly.
Poor guy, he's trying so hard to fit in but by doing so he's just looking even more out of place. The funniest part is the way John looks at him throughout the interview like "Why are you here".
Wow, the Dutch interviewers (the kids were all right - a bit naive compared to their UK & American peers) were so uptight. They certainly needed the 60's revolution (largely begun by Dylan and The Beatles) to free them up a bit.
Sorry Jimmie Nichol. And I'd like to add that apart from that (and anybody would be scared), he was vastly talented. His world could have been so different if he could have been offered therapy for the obvious anti-climax, after he got home to his old life. Even the best of us would have gone down without a little help from our friends. Paul did decide to help him, years later, getting him some work as a session musician which enabled him to have a renaissance and set up a new band. Eventually, however, he succumbed to heavy drugs. A little emotional and psychological therapy and some TLC might have done the trick after the let-down for this talented musician. Was the biopic about Jimmie's life ever made?
Jimmy obviously felt like a fish out of water but, oddly, so did George...the questions were almost all directed to J&P. Though George certainly came through with "kever"! So sweet, the child at the end
@@maryhargis8130 Well to be fair, he did look weird looking with the huge beard and his nose getting weirdly slimmed Out because of heroine snorting but that clearly dissipated
The proper way to have done this would have been with just the three actual Beatles, bringing Jimmy out is pointless as he was a short term fill and none of the question pertain to him.
I agree, it would've been far more professional, far more relaxed and would've filled Jimmys head with far more reality, maybe Epstein wanted to see him in this setting to get an idea of what to do with him afterwards
1:28 ¡¡¡Jajajajajajaja!!! ¡La risa de jimmy Nicol!... ¡La gente se ríe y Jimmy golpea la mesa!... 8:01 ¡La risa de Jimmy!... ¡La gente se ríe!... 😂😂😂😂😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣
