you kidding? it depends. are you looking for music videos, recordings or live performances? two excellent live tv performances they did later in their careers is "hey jude" and "revolution." a few cool music videos are "a day in the life," "paperback writer," "day tripper," "i am the walrus," "i feel fine" and "strawberry fields forever." their in studio recordings are practically all good. check out "back in the ussr," and "helter skelter" or "why don't we do it in the road" from the white album. "come together," "here comes the sun" and the "medley" from "abbey road." "taxman" and 'got to get you into my life" from the album "revolver." you have "nowhere man," "think for yourself" and "i'm looking through you" from "rubber soul." the choices are practically endless. i'd say any of these would be a good choice for your next dozen beatle song reactions.
If you don't know that the Beatles invented every form of music except rap that you listen to now then I am afraid you need some severe education in music. I truly feel sorry for you 😔
This band was so crazy and wild back then, that my mother - who was in the 60s a fan at the age of 14 - wasn't allowed to hear their music and needed to hide the records from her parents! To see the boys live in concert must have been crazy and a lifetime experience! Time have changed since then ... :)
I was one of the tens of millions of teenagers who saw this performance on television in 1964. I still remember the excitement it generated. The Beatles had a profound effect on music and culture. Their music evolved a lot during the 60's, and they were always at the for front of music and cultural trends. I'm really glad that you reacted to one of the most iconic events at that time. I think it would be great if you reacted to some of their later music. I would strongly recommend the rooftop concert where they played Don't Let Me Down.
Changed music, changed fashion (hairstyles and the way we dressed), attitudes, the way we listened to music and the way music was recorded, through out their time as a group, from 1963 through 1970
to me they were overrated, still are, i mean I respect what others say but i've never seen anything special about them, boring and repetitive lyrics, im sorry like i said i recognize them but i cant see the thing :P
When the Beatles first came to America they already had a number one record here in the USA. So the build up, the anticipation prior to their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show was incredible! When they landed in NYC there were thousands of young people there to greet them. "Beatlemania" had arrived! I was in the 7th grade the night they appeared on television. Everyone in my family, including my parents and grandmother gathered around our black and white TV set to see this mysterious phenomenon! Everyone I knew watched this show. It was the talk of the school the next day. And of course all the girls had their own favorite Beatle. What also made the Beatles special was they wrote much of the music they performed. And by the time they arrived in the USA, they were already a very polished stage act. They had spent months on Hamburg Germany and England perfected their performances. They were innovative. The hairstyles, much different than Elvis. The matching collarless suits. The bowing in unison. The Beatles were extremely innovative in the recording studio as well. They were not afraid to take chances when producing new records. At the time of this first broadcast, the question that my family talked about, the entire nation talked about, was were the Beatles just a flash in the pan? Would anyone remember them a year from now? A lot of people thought they would be a passing fad. Nobody at that time had any idea the impact this band would have on music, fashion, on culture, in general. The Beatles were able to maintain their popularity after those heady early days by producing hit after hit starting in 1964. If you traveled the country during that year, every radio station was playing their hits. I think at one point the first five records on the Top Ten chart, were Beatle records. The Beatles helped to launch the "British Invasion." Many talented bands followed the Beatles because of the success of the Beatles. The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, The Kinks, The Animals, The Who, owe a lot of their success to the Beatles. Had the Beatles flopped in America we might not have discovered those other bands. Rock/Pop music was forever altered because of the Beatles.
I saw them live , 1964, 65 , 66 at the Empire Pool , N. London , Wembley ( Melody Maker) , also at Hammersmith Odeon ." I FEEL FINE" was no. 1 in the.pop charts and they came out of xmas tree .I had good seat and view of.them and could hear the Beatles clearly .I think.this was 1965.The Wembley concerts , i could hardly hear them for the screaming girls going bonkers. Also at Wembley,.The Stones , Lulu, Spencer Davis group, Baron Knights etc. At that time , teenage years i lived in a childrens home .Every Xmas , The ladies of the inner wheel rotary club ( charity) paid for us and the coach .I am very grateful to these Ladies ( probably no longer on.the earth planet , bless their souls Lord .) This body is now in the 70's and i cherish nice memories , seeing the Beatles is one of many .God Bless everyone.
The Beatles were so skilled at performing and skilled as excellent musicians, that they couldn't even hear themselves play or sing when they played live (because of the teen girls screaming so loud), and yet they always sounded perfect live. They had no stage monitors then, and not even being able to hear themselves was one of the major reasons they stopped touring.
The Beatles changed American music in that one performance. The things that were different about them in no order: 1. The songs had a very strong beat. 2. Their songs had a definite ending (no trailing or fading off) 3. No falsetto voices. 4. They were unmistakably MALE. Cute! Handsome! Funny. Cheeky. Flirty yet professional. 4. No one in the USA had their haircuts. An entirely new hairstyle for guys. 5. Every song was really good. Huge talent!!! 6. Trailblazers, original, always something new. When each new album came out, it was savored, read cover to cover, played over and over! 7. Fashion forward! Beatle boots!
You should follow this up with a reaction to Strawberry Fields Forever. Granted, it's not a live performance, but it's a perfect example of how quickly The Beatles changed in such a brief stretch of time. The date they appeared on Ed Sullivan and the release date of Strawberry Fields was almost exactly three years apart, give or take a few days. Not only had they advanced musically, but their appearance was vastly different as well. Looking forward to your next reaction.
You should check out video of them playing at The Washington Coliseum, in 1964! They played there right after the Ed Sullivan show in New York (what you just watched) and that Washington, D.C. concert is wild!! They had to keep moving in between songs to arrange instruments to face the four directions of the square stage -- Ringo was on a circular riser that could be turned (not without considerable effort, sad to say) -- because they were in the middle of the coliseum! I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. That inconvenience aside, they tore the place up and rocked the fans! Look up video on RU-vid!
Doesn’t it make you jealous you weren’t alive at the time? Me too 😫 73.3 million people in America (in 1964!) were watching! It was their first performance here (and that was their first #1 song here.) Watch any of their performances from the Shea Stadium concert in 1965… the first ever stadium tour! They couldn’t even hear themselves and the crowd only heard them through the stadium PA system lol. PS Paul McCartney turned 81 yesterday 😳
Tom Hanks wrote and produced a movie called "That thing you do" that follows the same theme as the Beatles performance on the Ed Sullivan show, really good movie.
Teeny Boppers. The last time I heard that term was probably in the early 70's. It was big in the 60's. Teenage girls giddy with the excitement of a dance, or a song, or seeing a band. Just for yourselves, try listening to a song called Mendocino. It's about that 60's scene. Not a big song, or well known, but kind of instructive. Thanks for the Beatles reaction. I saw that show on Ed Sullivan. I was 13. The audio is better if you listen to the studio recordng we all heard on the radio back then. Again, thanks.
You have to release that there was no other music out there like it except maybe Elvis. It’s the truth. I watched these shows live on ed Sullivan for the 3 straight weeks they were on ❤
The secret to the music was their orgasmic crescendos of "oohs' or in this song with "hide" and "hand" with lyrics always centered on terms such as "me" and/or "you"
At the time this was on Ed Sullivan we were poor and living above a Small liquor store (storage attic room with a toilet and makeshift shower. With two front windows. With part of a Q and U neon letters blinking red and green. I was 10 my sister was 12 we had no furniture, except an old stand up cabinet Tv with a small capsule shape tube. We sat on the floor in front of the tube mesmerized while the room turned red and green watching an old black and white tv. One of the best memories I shared with my older sister. After that we were Beatle fans, I would fight and argue to avoid getting a hair cut. I would comb my hair forward like bangs. My mother bought me Beatle boots a couple months later 😂😂😂
You think that the screaming was something? When Frank Sinatra would croon the girls would SWOON and FAINT. So, what's a little scream. Here's a historical fact. When the Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan show the crime rate in New York literally dropped. And that was for every time the performed. Here's a video you should enjoy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tGXMzxKhzeo.html
There are over 200 songs. I recommend you do them all The Beatles also have more video footage of them playing on TV than anyone I know of especially that long ago.
My dad was being generous that evening and let my sister and I watch this. It was amazing. Thanks, dad! The next day my teacher, a rather old woman, was growling about the screaming and how she couldn't understand the words. EVERYONE watch it. That's all we talked about the next day. I've always compared the coming of the Beatles to that moment in 'The Wizard Of Oz'(1939) when Dorothy opens the door to Munchkin Land. If you haven't seen it, do. You'll understand what I'm talking about but I try and avoid spoilers. Suggest checking out their performance of 'This Boy' on the 'Ed Sullivan Show'. Great 3-part harmony
To put it straight....Everybody heard of the Beatles in '64 but no one in America had seen them before Ed Sullivan...They were from England ,long hair and handsome...They were like aliens that had just landed. This 7 year journey with the Beatles affected many people including me.
Could do a whole reaction video on a collection of camera shots of the girls in the audience loosing their minds while watching the Beatles perform, lol.
A brief history: This song debuted on US charts Jan. 18th at number 45. Two weeks later, it reached No. 1 and stayed there for seven weeks. This live performance was the introduction of 73 million viewers to a group that came to define the sixties.
React to "Fuh You" by Paul McCartney. It's from 2018. It has a modern style & production while being very catchy. I think you would find the transition between "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Fuh You" nothing less than mindblowing. 🙂
Awesome! You guys should do a reaction to a later Beatles video from their final live "rooftop" performance of the song "Don't Let Me Down". I subscribed! Peace
You NEED to go down the Beatles rabbit hole, guys. There IS a LOT Of VIDEOS on the Beatles out there, you are so wrong!! On YOU TUBE, on line, on DVD. You are also wrong that are "very little reactions to them" here.....I have been watching for 2 years and there have been a lot of reactors doing them. NO we're are not 80 years old now, Paul just turned 81 yesterday on June 18, 2023 and Ringo with be 83 on July 7, 2023. I was 16/17 years old in 1964 and I am 76 now, younger teens than me there, and children loved them too, so they would be in their early '70s, and in their 60s. now. Next year in February 2024 will the the 60th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America.
late here. best vid of the guys I know of , Utube - Beatles Australia about 4 months after this.... pretty high video and audio recording. about 30 minutes including songs not broadcast, probably the back room guys broke the contract.
The only other major female hysteria of that degree that I ever witnessed was when Elvis was performing in his early years, like around 1955 - 57, some 10 or so years before the Beatles came to America and performed on the Ed Sullivan show. There's an old black-and-white clip of Elvis doing an outdoor performance in 1956 and the screaming from the girls is literally causing distortion in the microphone of the broadcast equipment. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wt7Akjzkc54.html
Guys, the Beatles made less than 250 songs in their career. Not quite a huge back catalog. Amd yet they’ve sold over 600 million albums. And there’s quite a lot of video of them playing all throughout the world. They did stop playing live after 1965-66
Love the Beatles, saw the show, but you must realize, johns’ mike was dead so you only hear Paul McCartneys’ voice which isn’t the lead vocal we are all used to hearing. Apparently, after the sound check earlier that afternoon, a cleaning lady accidentally potted down Johns mike on the mixing board and it was not corrected before the live appearance. Really disappointing since this was such an historical, iconic performance.
Try some music by YES one of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time and my favorite band. You haven't reacted to them at all. They have many long songs that are masterpieces. Not your usual music. Some good ones include "Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", "The Gates of Delirium". "Awaken", "Turn of the Century"... Loads of good ones. I will subscribe if you do and so will hundreds of YES fans.
Unfortunately the mikes on the Sullivan show weren't very good and Paul McCartney, who sings backup, sounds like the lead singer, while you can hardly hear the actual lead singer, John Lennon.
I NORMALLY LOVE YOU GUYS ...BUT...WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE AUDIO ?...AS SOON AS THEY SING THEY ARE QUIET...AND EVEN WORSE THEIR INSTRUMENTS ARE EVEN QUIETER ?!!!!...PLEASE DONT DO THAT AGAIN ....BUGGER RU-vid...
Enjoyable reaction, thank you. If you react to the World, you should react to Mexico and The Warning, a young 3 piece band that is going to be big very soon.
