@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I took the long way home and Revolved while Driving My Car. Really cranked it too. The clarity keeps blowing me away. This time especially the bass. Loud, proud and completely undistorted! Even at the volume I had it at. I’m either getting used to She Said, She Said, or the difference isn’t as notable as it was on the headphones.

I wish they had done that. it was thrilling to hear the organ notes on she said she said as the cymbal smashes reduced. never heard it in clarity like that. I always thought that was buried sustained guitar feedback in mono mix, what a revelation. Ringo's drums on all of this era's songs are remarkable. I find it odd that during these touring years 1965/66 Ringo always complained that touring "was wrecking my playing. we couldn't hear each other" ...breaking news just in....VAR is re-checking the Hurst goal! oh wow my friend World Cup is right around the corner.

Yes Ringo's drumming at this point is quite astonishing - really good playing on Rubber Soul and Revolver. The clarity and the re-positions of instruments and voices has made this album something really new that sparkles. I guess it was difficult for Ringo during the touring years , Ive been in that situation a few times when you cant hear what's going on properly (but for different reasons obviously) and its tricky. That was a tense 56 years waiting for VAR to finally give the nod but thank goodness we got the decision. I was saying to y mate the other day, that I dont feel the same excitement for this World Cup as I usually do at this close to the tournament . I think its because England have played crap for about a year coupled with the fact that its in the winter. im sure this will change once the tournament gets started.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I love it all and not complaining (unusual) about anything with this package. They got it right and should be applauded. As I said this summer 2022 when I found this wonderful channel "World Cup should be going on right now, in season will be very strange"...I think that is the excitement factor that you are talking about. We are focused on club results, not country. I know it will change with 3 matches a day for a few weeks. Great analysis, Tone. The new mix is becoming my go-to as well. She Said She Said is the flaw in the Persian rug, I suppose. I really like the clarity of the track and how the sound is spread out, but I do miss those big cymbal crashes. All in all, Giles did a great job with this remix.

Hi Tone & a brilliant honest review basically telling it as it is on this in my opinion wonderful box set.... To my ears mostly everything sounds beyond stunning & my only disappointment on the new 2022 remix is what happened to one of my album favourites She Said She Said as it sounds horrid especially the guitar track which actually cuts out from time to time & I'm surprised Giles Martin let it through sounding like this!! My absolute highlight on the remix is Got To Get You Into My Life which sounds awesome but to be fair just about every track does but in saying everything above what can be said about the outtakes of Yellow Submarine with John singing actually edged on by Paul McCartney.... As a Beatles fan for over 50 years this is one of the greatest surprises ever for me! Love it.

If you listen carefully to She Said She Said it also cuts out on the original stereo mix, but it’s less noticeable. But, it definitely is there each time as I’ve compared the two versions. I believe it’s more noticeable now because Giles centered the guitar, etc.
I follow many beatle youtubers...Tony's review is hands down the best without a shadow of doubt. Tony you are a true fan its great seeing you get so passionate about my fav beatles album! Your video was a joy to watch, and your insightful reviews of each song was detailed, a great comparison to the 2009 mix. Fine review, Tone! I've mostly been staying away from reviews because this remix had such a profound effect on me, but I definitely wanted to hear what you thought. Interesting that you mentioned how this album took the world from black and white to color. That's exactly how I felt after hearing this for the first time. In fact, I was thinking that a colorized version of the cover in the book might have been an appropriate choice. I've mentioned my longstanding critiques have been the stereo mix and the quality of most of John's compositions. After one listen, those 2 issues have been completely eradicated. After a dozen listens (at least), I now consider this a top 5 album on my list. I'll spare you a track by track analysis, but John's tracks have all gone up for me, especially She Said, She Said. The snare on And Your Bird is a highlight for me. Tomorrow Never Knows leaves me speachless every time. It's the overall breathing room throughout the track and the floating tape loops that I find so special. I now feel like Pau's songs are appropriately produced. For No One is particularly stirring. At least, I can listen to Yellow Submarine and find it a little more interesting than before, partially because I now know the backstory of the compostition. George's songs are certainly more vibrant. Just filling that gaping hole in the stereo mix of Taxman made this a success. I've listen to this remix in almost every way: Home stereo, headphones, in the car. I've heard the cd and the hi-res. The vinyl listening will hopefully happen this weekend. I've been comparing the remixes to all other versions of the tracks that have been remixed from this album and just let the entire catalog shuffle to see how they would sound when they would pop up in comparison to everything else. No matter how I listen, these tracks just sparkle!

@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I was so positively affected by the remix, I wanted to keep it for myself for as long as possible. For that reason, I stayed from all YT reviews. It makes perfect sense that I would like the remix of She Said... while most don't. It's probably what everyone liked about the original that didn't sit well with me all these years. It makes me sad to think people would sacrifice their cred in the rush to be first. I have a whole day to delve into the vinyl before I have to make the trip to Mum's again. Being this is the Missus favorite Beatles album, she wants to sit with me an listen to the whole thing in its entirety. The high res is definitely spectacular! @@BeatlePete910 Hi Pete, I also stayed away from reviews until I had mine made as I didnt want to be influenced. Since mine went out Ive watched nothing but reviews ! Yes in the you tube world, those who get their news, unboxing and reviews out first will get the most views so its always a bit of a bundle . I don't think it matters so much with news because people will watch the same news story from different channels just in case one of them says something different. With reviews , I just don't think you can review a major release after playing it once or twice - I prefer to not be early with these and listen thoroughly and consider all options before going public with it - there doesn't seem any point in not doing that . I guess by now you've had a chance to go through the vinyls so I hope that was a positive experience for you

Like someone put a thick curtain away. really great. I also like the picture disc, I saw in your yesterday's video. What a nice item. I don't mind about yellow submarine, but I never thought of replacing it with rain. But you are right. What a strong album this had been. But still my favourite songs remain And your Bird can sing and Got to get you into my life... both are really enhanced with the remix and for the later one it's great to hear ringo's fantastic drumming more better. And for me the most stunning moment of the 2022 remix is when I heard for the fist time a second guitar (left channel). It had been there all these years, blended with the first guitar!. What an exciting surprise courtesy of Mr Giles Martin et al.
@@TonioFigueras83 Yes exactly, I love how these remixes tease out stuff that has always been there so that we hear them. Something that's old but with a new spin, which is what these remixes are for me. The work that has gone on here is a revelation.
She said, She said was a big surprise for me, great to hear the clarity but it surprised me to hear what sounded like rogue guitar notes. On previous mixes I never noticed them. maybe they shouldn't be quite so prominent in the mix though. Always been a fav song of mine, just getting used to hearing new bits..but so far I think I'd have left them in the edit room.
She Said is a strange one and took me a while to get used to it. One of my favourites on the album too and this mix hasn't diminished that for me, like it has for others. Thanks for your comment
Great review Tony, I agree with most of your comments 👍 When you mentioned your nostalgia for your childhood memories of Yellow Submarine, I was 11 years old when it was released and now regard that recording as a work of art rather than a children's novelty, as opposed to Wings recording of Mary Had A Little Lamb, I wish Paul had never made that record!
Thanks Adrian glad you liked the review. I was 5 when Yellow Sub came out and I can vaguely remember the song from that time although I wouldn't have known it was by the Beatles. Im not saying that it shouldn't exist, I just feel its a bit out of place on revolver where the other songs are so mature. I think as a stand alone single it would be perfect - juts my opinion of course. As for MHALL, pretty embarrassing but I like to think it exists as a kind of statement after the banning of Give Ireland back to the Irish , its a kind of of 'ok here's something completely sterile that you cant ban. This is the only way it can be justified. 😂
Thanks for this informative review on the remix. I agree on the controversial statement on She Said, She Said. I still think Giles totally missed the point here. There is a very characteristic guitar part too low in the mix now and it's, as you said, all to clean. To be honest I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to left/right mixing. I can live (more or less) with centralized vocals. The first ever CD's from 1987 were already different from the original vinyl stereo and less extreme panned left right. Rain instead of YS is a good suggestion :) I'm missing the point of changing channels on some tracks. Again, thanks for this review.
If the remix of "Revolver" is a triumph as you detail then it creates anticipation for a remix of "Rubber Soul". And "Beatles for Sale," during the recording of which they began using unusual instruments.
I too am looking forward to a remix of Rubber Soul although I would like a more radical remix than we're probably going to get, imagine the drums and bass sounding like they do on Revolver, imagine the guitars on Day Tripper sounding like PaperbackWriter! But sadly that may be pushing it too far for some people and I'm not sure that it's even possible.
@@adrianmist6681 I guess Giles is on to a hiding to nothing. he's never going to please everybody, especially the old school types who don't believe anyone should be tampering with the holy grail. Im very much pro the tampering - I want these things to sound the very best they can so that they have the audio quality that matches the quality of the songs themselves. Can't wait for 'Rubber Soul', the first album of all-Beatles songs and my absolute favorite. Just to hear Lennon's voice through both speakers in stereo on the song, 'Girl'. So many incredible songs on that album! Did I say I can't wait?
@@adrianmist6681 I live for a remix of "Beatles for Sale". And I imagine "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" were rather fast mixes. (George Martin wrote that "Help!" was the first actual stereo recording -- "The Beatles," flummoxed, asked, "Why TWO speakers!?"-- and that it was a mess.) And I wonder if they'll get around to the live BBC recordings . . .
Fabulous run through of the remixed Revolver, Tone! I haven't bought it yet, hoping to land a bargain during Black Friday/Black Week. Your idea of exchanging Yellow Submarine for Rain on the album is a brilliant one! I don't really mind Yellow Submarine on its own, but it is the odd one out on the album. Rain is a better fit! I fully agree on listening to the album on a proper hifi system rather than in a car or something. Good headphones is a good alternative way for a serious and devoted listening session in my opininon. I loved your magic "let there be colour" trick early in the video - well done, mate! I love all your videos allthough I don't always comment on them. I also believe your worries of doing too long videos is a sensible take. But reviewing a full album requires time. At least I didn't fall out during the half hour. (Though I did look up Twitter on my other screen while listening to you...) Yes, I always watch YT on my computer. I did see that a lot of RU-vidrs went really early on their reviews of this remix as this helps them get more views by being first out of the blocks and in doing this I noticed that they sacrificed detail for speed. Revolver is such an important album, I really wanted to take it all in for a few days before giving an opinion (I am still as I write working on my review of the sessions albums). Funnily enough, I also only watch YT on my computer. Glad you made it to the end of the video but you just cant do a proper review in 10 minutes . Hi Tone I love Yellow Submarine. I listened to the Eggpod podcast the other day which covers the sessions tracks. It gives a different interpretation of the song now we know John sang it originally. Given that John sings “No one cared” the interpretation is of a young boy who dreams of his absent Dad away at sea, who invents fantastic adventures for his Dad away at sea. It’s really changed how I think of this song, and the podcast is well worth a listen. Overall I love this mix, Giles best so far I think. On a separate issue I am rapidly getting George’s back catalogue on vinyl. I am awaiting LITMW which looks mint and is on the Capitol label interestingly, and also Extra Texture. What are your thoughts on Ex Tex? Best wishes Andrew
Hi Andrew I agree deffo the best remix so far. Also agree that the yellow sub demos are mega interesting - more of that in the next video. Im afraid Extra texture is an album that I have never been able to find a way to love. there are a couple of good moments 'Tired of midnight Blue' is great as is "this Guitar' and 'You'. The others have never really grabbed me in any way. maybe its time to revisit it
Absolutely spot on. Yes Totally different realisation on Y.S know. This certainly sticks one up to the negative criticism back in the day. Shows the real genius that Lennon brought to the best band ever.
Really good review and I have to agree with most of what you say. For me, every instrument and part now has their chance to shine. Things are no longer buried and there's just a general sense of spaciousness to the recording.
Great review! With the new She Said She Said mix the changes are just too jarring for me, especially when listening with headphones. Giles and Sam took too many liberties here and I’m not sure why. I’m normally a big fan of their remix projects. But not on this track. I otherwise wouldn’t care that much but this is one of my favourite Beatles songs! The guitars in the left channel are thin and they oddly cut out in spots. It’s always been a perfect, dense, grungy guitar-heavy track but now the guitars are so ‘cleaned up’ and spread out; as a result the overall sonic impact is diminished for me. With this being such a brilliant song I don’t want it to take “some getting used to”. I really wanted to love it but I can’t. All of the individual instruments sound clear but as an integrated whole it’s a big fluster cluck. An intriguing sound experiment but not a good mix - to my ears. The cymbals bother me too but the guitars are my main beef. But many of the remixes really shine: I Want to Tell You, For No One, Dr. Robert, And Your Bird Can Sing, Love You Too, YS and I’m Only Sleeping, among others, for me.
This is a really great comment, thanks for posting and glad you liked the review. With She Said, I think guitar spots that you hear on the left where almost certainly already there , but where he's split the two guitars left and right on the new mix you hear that spotting much clearer whereas on the 2009 both guitars are in the same channel so the other guitar masks the spotting. It definitely sounds different and that's really what I meant by 'getting used to' - when you've heard something the same way for decades you notice the changes so it takes a while for the difference to sink in - thats all I meant buy that. With the cymbals, on the original they become the loudest part of the lit and bleed over the lead guitar and vocals a bit. Im ok with the softening of the cymbals because the other side of that is you hear the riff and and the vocals that follow it much clearer - that's the payoff I guess. Everyone here's things differently and like I said in the video, I know this song would divide people's opinion. I just think he's tried something different and it works for some and for others, less so.
She Said She Said was a great surprise for me, I can hear instruments I’ve never heard clearly before, especially John’s Hammond organ, the vocals and drumming are amazing, plus the guitar sounds are an inspiration 🎉

After years of hearing She Said, British mixes or American, ill never get used to this mix of the crash cymbals. Makes no sense. They sound like their on the next block.(It's supposed to be a powerful track). Its not suppose to be UNPLUGGED! Outside of that, a great job was done on this box set. Really nice mixes! Im ok with the part of the mix tbh Allen. To me as a drummer, it does make sense because the crash cymbals shouldn't be the loudest thing in the kit at any point - they are there to punctuate (usually a chord change) . the important thing for me here is that Ringo's kit generally is no longer lost in the mix and is strong and loud like it should be. I do agree however that the toning down of the cymbals has divided fans opinions . thanks for your comment
Ah! We're getting there, bud! I do like the presence of the kit. So important. 4 track recordings with little or no bouncing, and it shows on Paperback Writer. (Most of the instruments are on one track.) Giles did a great job. I have a 24 track, sometimes I stare it and think what the Beatles could have done with this machine! 😃 😊. Martin, and Geoff would have had a field day. I was 17 the day it was released here in the States.( back in 66 ) I turned the lp over and saw only 2 John songs! Didn't rub me right at all. 😆 Where's Lennon? 😆 is this a joke? 😆 keep up the good work. Your review is pretty damn good! 😉 I enjoyed it.

This is an amazing upgrade of a fantastic album.But and its a discerning but.Paperback writer. Yes it's cleaner yet I miss the original sound and that humming bass sound at each interlude section. Tomorrow never knows mono mix RM11 and I'm only sleeping mono mix RM1 is the beas knees 4 me. When you think you've heard everything This is the hi lite of Beatles Ness. As for the book,we'll am still digesting it all. It knocks me out.Simply Brilliant.

The remix of She Said, She Said is the only fail for me. The drumming is buried in the center and you can't really appreciate it compared to the original mix. I think Yellow Submarine sounds better on the 2015 remix, but I skip that track anyway. I totally agree that "Rain" deserves a place on the album instead of YS.
Fair enough Allison, its interesting how we all hear things differently but I knew this song would divide people's opinion. It took me a while to get used it. For what its worth I prefer this mix of YS just because its got all the bits on it that were left of in error on all the other stereo mixes. Glad you agree with inclusion of Rain. I would agree on most songs except two SheSaid SheSaid, and Tomorrow Never Knows, the original 1966 stereo is my favorite, the mono is my second and Giles would be third. Also in between here there and everywhere and she said, I would have picked Paperback Writer. Also I would have started Revolver side 2 with Rain instead of GoodDay Sunshine. the single would be GoodDay Sunshine/ Yellow Submarine.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts David. I think the whole point of the stereo remix programme is to correct the dreadful stereo mixes we have had for decades where they put the vocals on one channel and the music on the other and for that reason I would always rate Giles remixes as being superior

Remember Geoff Emerick is the guy that made those mixes and SOMETIMES there was practical reasons for those mixes. The Mono is really the best in some cases as well. I think Giles is doing this for better sound as well as more importantly COPYRIGHT/Mechanicals/ Royalties to maybe revert back to Calderstone/AppleCorp. and out of Sony Universals hands. It’s more of a cash manipulation than a cash grab.
Oh -- this is a fun video! My memory of the world changing from black-and-white to color was with the election - I was 12-years-old -- of JFK. Even though our TV was black-and-white.
The 1987 will be lower volume and uncompressed. The 2009 compressed and cleaned up. The 2022 is even more compressed but remixed using cutting edge digital manipulation!
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel It’s hard to listen to 60s stereo recordings with headphones because of the imbalances of drums/bass left and vocals/guitars right. I did enjoy the 2022 because it sounds like it was recorded in the 70s!
Adding Rain right before She Said would have been too samey. It’s perfect just like it is. Now that I have this remix I can’t imagine listening any other way.
I love this remix by Giles..he's done a fantastic job over the last 5 years with all these excellent box sets..I'm struggling to pick a favourite of all the 5 sets so far..this is definitely my go too listen now.
Yeah Go to for me too . I do think this is his best one so far - not the best box set, but the best remix. I thought he worked wonders with Let it Be as well. Thanks for your comment Colin

Tone your black and white into color nailed it. You didn't have to say a word after that. This remix sounds so good to me, we are definitely lucky Peter Jackson's group got involved, the end product was magnificent. The only downside I felt was that Tomorrow Never Knows wasn't different but like you said it was near perfect as it was. I don't do comparisons myself so I really enjoyed listening to yours. I think the remix is stunning, such an improvement on what we had and youre right Peter Jackson's tech has brought this album back to life. best remix so far for me.
The best stereo of 1966 Revolver is Geoff Emericks/George Martins mix of 1966 Revolver. The best Stereo CD Mix of Stereo Revolver is the 1987 Mix of Revolver. The best mono lp/cd mix of Revolver is the 2022 mix of Revolver. Giles did fabulous with what he had to work with and yet still please Beatles fans!
I thought the I am the Walrus remix was excellent. John 's voice sounded amazing and they corrected that nasty edit in the middle that has haunted the stereo mix since day 1 .
I didn't like this remix. This is different but not better or worse. I like the original. I played this once and have zero interest in playing it again. It's my favourite album . Paperback Writer was not good. Lost all its punch and the original vocal trick before each chorus isn't the original sound at all. I liked Pepper remixed but George Martin really was the guy for this stuff. Not saying his son is worse.Just a 2022 version but I have the original planted in my brain.
Well I guess everyone hears things differently Steve but id never chose to have vocals and instruments panned to one side of the sound stage or the other in a stereo mix. I will be reviewing Paperback Writer and Rain remixes in my next video
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I thought the hard pans were on the first 4 albums but then again I quite them too. The monos have a lot of punch.I really like the Dexter versions too. You cant kill a beatle recording no matter how hard you try. The songs are impervious.
You just described many of my issues with this remix perfectly. For me, besides She Said being a disappointment I find Tomorrow Never Knows to have lost its punch and impact. PPW is fine but not better than the “1” remix or 2009. The new Rain mix is very good however. Revolver is my favourite LP of all time so I’m picky.
@@vicbertfartingclack4559 I agree the 1 remix was very good.And reveolver is the best album ever. I listened to this Revolver again and it's ok but the original will do me. Geoff Emerick said in his book years ago that there's not much you can do with the early remixes. And he is right. Btw that mono remix of Tomorow Never Knows that came out years ago is fantastic. So there are enough remixes and remasters to satisfy us all but I do like George Martins take on it all the most. It's in my memory. No mix can kill a Beatles song.
