In these free video guitar lessons you will learn "Something" by The Beatles. Besides being one of George Harrison's best songs, it is also one of the greatest songs of the entire Beatles catalog.
In my opinion I feel the solo in "Something" is one of the greatest solos ever written. It fits the song so perfectly that you just can't imagine anything being able to top it.
There are some nice chord progressions using 7th chords and some nice muting techniques. And the solo has some really nice 1st finger bends and excellent vibrato. It is an excellent study in playing a highly musical solo that perfectly fits the underlying chords.

What a beautiful melody. I shed some tears playing that little outro riff it's so beautiful. Those last 2 notes. Wow. Simple, but beautiful. When you start to play Beatles music and understand what George is doing, its sooooo beautiful.

It's great that you have taught this higher up the neck because George sings in a high range and it is necessary for me to have to transpose this down a note or two. It is easier to transpose from higher up the neck to lower down the neck. Thank you very much. Do you have a tutorial for Here Comes The Sun ?

Thank you!!! You have good ears and knowledge. The Leslie speaker always threw me off on some parts. This is spot on!!!
@jacquescousteau217
@jacquescousteau217 2 года назад
There is no Leslie on the solo which has the same tone as the fills. What makes you believe there’s a rotating speaker on the chords ? Maybe I’ll have to take a headphones listen, but if I recall I don’t remember the rhythm as having a swirling sound.
@allocke9446
@allocke9446 2 года назад
@@jacquescousteau217 With all due respect, I do not hear a leslie on the solo and fills as well. There appears to be a leslie, however subtle, on the chords.

I wish that fretboard tabs for the chords were brought into the frame when you explain the chords, I'm a visual guy. Other than that these are really well done. Thanks for sharing. Would like to see Neh Nah Neh by Vaya Con Dios. COuld never figure that song out!

Well it is a great song so few songs done by George. and again the most accurate lesson as always. I guess you have to still say this fret and that but myself wishing for faster lesson just say the name and play it and move on. Thanks for all the great work and doing such a great song, you cant do enough Beatle's maybe I.m amazed on acoustic. peace

Pretty cool tutorial (especially the am7/G bit), but there's an error - the second bass run in the bridge is C-B-A-G-E-D-C, not C-B-A-G-F-E. Just sayin' :)
@MarkTorromeo
@MarkTorromeo 10 лет назад
I'm kind of surprised that he had so much attention to detail in the rest of the lesson but decided to get weird in that bit. Could he be hearing something i'm not that's different than the obvious descending piano notes? Or did he just make a little alteration to make it more playable on guitar without having to go an octave higher anywhere? Anyway...when i play it i jump up an octave on the E note and continue descending from there. Works fine.
@lucaas1307
@lucaas1307 10 лет назад
That's exactly what I do :) Or I start an octave higher, depending on which position I use for the rest of the chords
@pguiver
@pguiver 9 лет назад
In the song, the piano actually goes C-B-A-G-E-D-C, but the bass guitar goes C-B-A-G-F-E over the piano for some reason. Pretty sure it was a mistake that went unnoticed though.
@jacquescousteau217
@jacquescousteau217 2 года назад
@@pguiver that’s a very good point. Now I’m going to have to listen through phones to see if indeed Paul was playing a different note before resolving back to C. I’ll be back …
@jacquescousteau217
@jacquescousteau217 2 года назад
You’re right,but he would have to drop the low E string to a D which would not work with the rest of the song. I’m going to listen through phones in a minute ,and see if it’s possible the bass ,and piano were playing a D against an F as Paul was playing standard tuning,so he didn’t have a drop D meaning he would have to play the D on 5th fret of A string or an open D string which would put it an octave higher on the bass when it feels so natural to just go down the scale . My gut feeling is telling me the piano and bass were playing different notes ,and it was the D below middle C on piano …

On bridge listen to bass note on second chord coming off the A major. The second chord is an A Major 7 not C#minor. Easy to miss. You’re always spot on anyway.

Best performance of Something on youtube, but I really, truly wish you'd provide tab, or at least list the chords. It's very difficult following your fingers. Frankly I just gave up. You'd make a good lesson a great one.

Badguitar I personally felt the lesson was perfect. RU-vid has a rewind button and a 1/2 speed and 1/4 speed option. Very easy to slow it down and review it. I learned the acoustic version first. Then this electric version, the solo I learned a few weeks ago. Just slow it down, it starts to make sense. :)

Thanks, it's beautifully done, as is all your stuff. The only tiniest issue I'd take is that where he's singing "don't wanna leave her now..." it's nicer and I think more in keeping with the archaeology of Beatles songs and their wonderful self - cannibalisation , to barre top three on fifth and descend 7,6,5, on D string, culminating with a D ninth. Interestingly, if geekily, this run was nicked by Santana on Oye Como Va and onwards by Johnny Marr in the magnificent William It Was Really Nothing Just a thought, while I wait to give an English class... 😂
