This is it. This is the one. In this episode of Lost Artists we take a look at the history, philosophy, ideology, and most importantly MUSIC of The KLF. Or The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu. Or The Timelords. The music of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty changed the world and then the disappeared. They made a million British Pounds and then burned it. They deleted all their albums and then returned just this year. Prince, Madonna, The Beatles and ABBA have nothing on these guys. This is the story of the greatest band of all time The KLF.

KLF is gonna rock you. And a LOT of well known associates. For UK 80's and 90's Music, you could play 7 degrees of separation with them. Big in Japan, a band famous for what the members did afterwards, included Budgie, later of the Banshees, Ian Broudie later of the Lightning Seeds, Holly Johnson later of Frankie goes to Hollywood and several others that would be behind the scenes industry functionaries. Drummond set up Zoo Records which was an incubator label to a lot of early to mid 80's Liverpool bands that would become big in their own way. Then it got absorbed by a major and he became an A&R man. Cauty also was also a co founder of The Orb. But is better remembered in Art circles (and his teen years Athena posters). Brilliant also included a guy called "Youth", a former Killing Joke member and later huge producer.

Good video, my only criticism is that it wasn’t a presenter who announced the KLF’s departure from the music business but a recording of their promoter, Scott Piering and was planned, they deleted their back catalogue as of that point and largely retired from music (at least as the JAMMS or KLF).

I recently heard a rumour that one of them was a big key to The Gorillaz. I mean, that band is very KLF in feel.

It's endless, really. I have so much KLF related stuff it's stupid, and yet when I think that 30, 40, 50 CDs of albums, singles, and bootlegs can encompass their entire output, I find out about yet another 30-some-odd minutes I haven't yet heard.

I actually like rachel whiteread's work and I don't think that them choosing her (guessing or being informed by someone that she'd be winning) was a comment on her work but on the absurdities of the way the art world actually works and the nature of any award like that, but the interview with her makes her seem utterly pathetic, it's absurd to think she was blackmailed. Of course years later Drummond and Cauty are respected artists themselves.

Edelweiss were not from Sweden. They were from Austria. That might not seem a great deal to a permanently geographically-challenged America but here in Europe whole wars have been started over less. The Proclaimers and Sex Pistols clips are in there... but who are the band at 5:19 ?

Never has society needed the KLF more than now. With Joni Mitchell (Hypgnosis) dropping her music from Spotify in light of Joe Rogan podcast, it would have been a good time to resurrect their back catalogue in defiance.

They were great ! I played on the same bill as them once (plus a few other bands) and ended up talking to some dude in a wizard costume or black magic get up or something, I can't remember exactly - it was around 89' ish and acid was a big thing then :) I think the guy played bass, or pretended to lol, maybe guitar. I remember thinking he was really chilled out (no pun intended). God knows what he thought of me - I was off my tits 🤔🙃🤣😂

Problem was nobody really cared about them leaving. Then they upped the ante by burning £1 million but nobody cared about that either. Now they are back its just a few aging weirdos who turn up at their events. They were forgotten about very quickly.
